    The ending actually pissed me off. The best thing about the phantom was his cunning and wit. He was always one step ahead of everyone. You think he’d have more brain cells to not mention Christine to a woman who just yelled at him she’s going to kill herself because he never paid attention to her due to Christine. Huge flaw there and therefore Christine wouldn’t have died. I love phantom and I loved moments of this play but this ending just made me say, “Really?”

    Actually it makes sense given context, 10 years, the phantom had become even more obsessed with christine, he loved her but let her go and till i hear you sing shows that the phantom feels completely lost without her.

    @@superlunadoodles6529Well she did goof but in no moment did Meg intend to kill her or even hurt Gustave, so it's unfair to hate her for that. As the commenter said, she wouldn't have freaked out like that had the Phantom not said literally the ONE thing she didn't want to hear that moment.

    The phantom works as a sympathetic villain, but once you try to make him a 100% protagonist, you have to ignore all the absolutely horrible things he’s done. (You know. Kidnapping, murder, arson, etc.) And then making a character like Meg the new villain is even more bizarre.

  • @TimeandMonotony

    @TimeandMonotony

    Couldn't agree more. I love him as a tragic, sympathetic villain with a bittersweet redemption, but making him an antihero (who still does things like make veiled threats against a child) really doesn't work. And yeah, Meg was certainly an... odd... choice for villain.

  • @879SCSP

    @879SCSP

    What's funny is that they could have just drawn from the source material and made Phillipe the villain. You give ties to Raoul's family and make him seem like more of a dick (and explain his complete 180 by showing his family is basically turning him into a strict drunk to meet their ever growing demands) and get to add sympathy to the Phantom since his attempts to run away and atone (maybe Coney Island was his attempt to "start over" and be better) are just being met with more pushback from an unforgiving world. It would also make him better if the child wasn't his but Raouls who felt excluded and is eventually aided in seeing "the beauty underneath" despite the harsh rules of Raoul's family.

    One of my favorite tropes is seeing people completely out of their element. It makes for either a deep re-examination of the character or hilarious comedy. Seeing the Phantom frantic, also literally playing the negotiator in what's basically a hostage crisis/murder-suicide attempt, was especially interesting. In PotO he was in control of everything 95% of the time. Seeing him completely at someone's mercy--a girl he's barely noticed, no less--was like a splash of cold water (plus his little scream when Meg pulled the gun!).

    Ive heard a theory that it's all in Erik's mind. A friend of mine came up with it, I think, and I added onto it They said that he just couldn't bring himself to be happy. I think he made meg and raoul worse but still within reasonable limits (I have my own reasons for thinking they're reasonable, but it's long so). He made christine love him, and since madame giry didnt have much in the original, she got that. And he let the story play out, but couldnt ignore what the characters would actually do based on how he'd made them, so christine died

    Alternate ending I thought of, it’s probably not very good: The Phantom does not mention Christine when attempting to calm Meg. Instead, Meg refuses to forgive the Phantom for all her suffering, still rambling about how it was all his fault. Meg shoots, aiming for the Phantom, but her hand is too shaky to make proper aim. Christine and the Phantom expect to be hurt, but Gustave falls instead. Meg drops the gun and she and her mother go to look for help. Gustave reveals through a reprise of “Look With Your Heart” that he guessed that the Phantom was his father all along, and asks how they met. The Phantom and Christine sing a short reprise of “Once Upon Another Time,” and Gustave takes off the Phantom’s mask. But instead of screaming, he jokes about how he ran away before. He drops the mask at his side as he dies. Christine, heartbroken beyond belief, picks up the gun and points it toward herself, only to remember the Phantom is still there. He sings the reprise of “Love Never Dies,” and she lets go of the gun. Raoul arrives, in shock of his dead son, but does not move to touch him, knowing he was not a good enough father. The Phantom and Christine cradle his body as the curtain drops.

    I got to see this Live in Las Vegas Saturday night at 7:00 with my mom. It was so amazing. We had balcony seats. I got to buy three souvenirs. A bag, shirt and souvenir brochure. I also got to meet the boy who played Gustave (Jake Heston Miller). Got to take a picture with him too. He was really sweet and during the picture, he hugged me and I hugged him. I really wished and hoped though that I would get a picture taken with The Phantom and Christine and meet them but it didn’t happen sadly. I also didn’t get to meet Raoul, Meg, Madame Giry, Dr. Dangle, Mister Squelch, or Miss Fleck which is disappointing and sad really because they are the main characters after all. But I had a really fun time none the less. In fact, it was one of the best nights of my life.

The Australian production, just as great as a cast (I don't think I could choose between the pairs) improved music and AMAZING SET DESIGN! And then this one (which I think is the American tour, please correct me if I'm wrong. The red cover, right?) Everything has evolved into a great piece of art which there is a very short list of things I wouldn't do to see it live. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

    It got knocked over. If you look earlier in the video when they were looking for Gustave it was up; however, it got knocked down when they were moving the ramp. So, she actually was supposed to fall and knock the railing down with her. It feels to plain to just leave it down for no reason and just let out a small grunt as you fall to the ground after you’ve been shot.

    Ikr. This cast is by far the best. You’d be surprised how much control an actor has at carrying a story. They can reinvent the feelings and atmosphere if they just present the dialogue and emotions in a new way. I genuinely feel like that was one of the reasons why people felt like the characters were two different from the original cast. I adore Sierra and Ramin, but I’ve seen their bootleg. They don’t really bring in the old Christine and Erik with the mature ones. Cause the truth of the matter is that almost nobody completely grows up. A part of one’s innocence and vulnerability people once had will always stick with them, even the smallest fraction. The characters in this cast made that fine line between the first musical and this one. Sierra and Ramin and everyone in there just jumped into this one.

    r3dact3d oh boy let me tell ya, I knew there was a change to the song, but my soul was not prepared for what they did. I thought the lyric and musical changes were glorious. It gave me chills, too, and I wish I could have gotten video, because the staging changes beautifully. It was much darker, creepier. The stage continued to rotate, and cite little Gustave just follows Phantom as he walks backwards and gets more and more jerky and manic.

    I wish they made Meg mad at the Madame Giry for giving her attention to the Phantom rather than having her mad at the Phantom to giving his attention to Christine. I mean think about it, Meg performing goes long before Love Never Dies but also the original show. And Madame Giry was so focused on keeping the Phantom hidden since he was a kid far before she has Meg. Meg’s entire life has been dedicated to performing, while the teacher being her own mother. And when Madame Giry got mad he invited Christine back during the timeline of Love Never Dies, it annoys Meg even more considering she’s hyper focused on someone else’s life rather than her own daughter’s. And the lyrics in the end, “Bathing beauty in the dark, on their laps, in their arms, in their beds.” Meg has been SA’ed, possibly even further, which unfortunately is very common for performers even in 2022 let alone the late 1800’s. Her story could have been representative to childhood stardom and abusive parents which comes with that but no we get another love triangle which has already done just the musical prior.

    Hope they bring this to the UK in the not too distant future :) Love the addition of a reprise of Beauty Underneath; makes the carnival seem more intimidating and intense. If only they got in there a few seconds earlier, they would have found Gustave and none of this would have happened :( I like how it takes a while for Raoul to step in and take Christine in his arms; leaving the Phantom literally hanging onto her with his fingertips as he doesn't want to lay her on the ground, before quickly running to the edge of the pier. I think it wasn't as exaggerated as the Australian though......Ben Lewis really was dramatic at the end there......at least this one is more believable and less dramatic. Who is playing the Phantom in this one? He is really good actor and singer.

I quite enjoy all the actors live, but that kay just be what I got from it!

I don't mean to offend anyone in the comment I left if I do. I respect all the actors and actresses but it seem a little over dramatic from how the phantom lunges forward when men threatens to push Gustave over the edge. But I do understand your point and agree 100%

    I'm going to add an interesting comment that Jake told me when he took me backstage. He said that for this particular moment, he gets scared. Gardar is so close to the edge and leans during the hug that the boys can see over his back and to the stage. He knows Gardar is extremely strong and will take care of him no matter what, but he is still scared that they will fall. Maybe, at times, this particular scene can lack emotion that we as the audience want, but it could be due to something as simple as being a little closer to the edge as usual and the boys looking for reassurance. I agree with both of your comments Lazy Man and Deanna. just thought I would share that info that Jake told me. It made me think about this scene differently. and how these boys show so much trust as actors for their stage dads.
