Well putting aside the fact that you know he clearly learned nothing from the original musical defeating his original arch. They guy literally threatened to kill her child before he knew it was his then went and made a bet on her. Right. Love. As for Christine it's shockingly dissonant with all that happened again in the original. I love Ramin and Sierra and I wish the Phantom and christine had gotten together but this characters assassinating convoluted mess is NOT the way to do it. If you took what you said out of context yes that'd love but with context. Not so much

I read a post in Instagram Ramin said, "When I first played the Phantom I decided to make him young, and studied Asperger's syndrome as a slight back-story because I saw some documentaries on unexplained geniuses and Asperger's came up. I kept that totally to myself, but then I got two letters from fans mentioning certain mannerisms of my Phantom, saying they really connected with him and that they had Asperger's. That was a big validation. I felt: Wow, this is affecting people like it affected me." That mentioned, and I've been watching PoTO related videos these past days since the 25th anniversary. He is the best one because Ramin put tons of details on his Phantom than the other Phantoms. They had different charm, but Ramin's was the most relatable Phantom I've seen so far. I hope I can watch him and Sierra in PoTO someday even though it's quite impossible since I live in Indonesia :(

I much prefer this version of Beauty Underneath than the one from Australia. Erik was rescued by Madam Giry from a travelling circus, where he presumably was put into a cage for all to observe (like an animal). There’s no reason why the Phantom would treat other disfigured people the same way (by putting them in weird glass boxes in the Australia versions).

I actually thougth they were automatons...? Because in the lyrics of "The Coney Island Waltz" there's a part that says "Wonders and astonishments for your delectation / Phantoms and automatons for your fascination". And, because I didn't see any automatons, I thougth the actors were representing them. They even kind of look like those fortune tellers machines. But I could be wrong. Yeah... It got really mixed reviews when it first opened in West End in 2010, many critics hated it and they had to make some changes to the show. This is filmed after major changes, and in my opinion, they should've filmed this. But Andrew was more happy with the Australian production and people there wanted to film it and he gave permission to do so. I honestly love this version more than the Australian/current tour version. Really don't even wanna see the touring version, because it's too different from the original.

YES to EVERYTHING you've said. All I like about the Aus are the stage design, props, costumes. Anna and Ben were amazing too in their own ways, but for me, Ramin and Sierra will ALWAYS br the BEST Phanyom and Christine in POTO and LND. First, Ramin's hand gestures. Then the emotions, passion, interpretation they out in every word to portray their characters perfectly. Anna didnt even have blood on her gunshot wound lol

@@DarkxAngelxHeart not attacking YOU but as someone who can't stand this convoluted character assassinating dumpsterfire how can you like phantom and like THIS? It literally defeats the point of Erik's original arch takes away 99% of what made him sympathetic in the original. Pulls Ron the death eater syndrome on Raoul (ie going oc on the original hero and demonizing them to make the rival look better). Wrecks poor Meg and Madame giry. Christine's love for the Phantom is exceptionally dissonant with everything from the original as well. Yes she did love Erik in her own way he had been a long time mentor, comfort, and friend but she never appeared to love him romantically. She pitied and felt empathy for him mourning the loss of their connection. But that was it. Then we get told oh she actually did love him before despite you know EVERYTHING she said in the lair and her arch about growing a backbone. And no longer allowing others to dictate her decisions. Ramin and Sierra's chemistry nearly sells it if you forget the original completely. But I literally cannot understand how one can like something that spits on everything wonderful about the original? I wish Erik and Christine had gotten together but THIS isn't the way to do it. It feels more like a half baked fanfiction which is almost an insult to fanfiction because I've read better versions of how to get these two together. So how can you like it? Genuinely curious?

@@sundus928I really like “The World’s More Full of Weeping Than You Can Understand” by Mertens on ao3. It takes place a few years after the original story. Erik still lives under the Opera House but he’s just kinda tired and sad after everything that happened so he’s not doing villain stuff anymore. Christine’s engagement to Raoul never worked out (not through anyone’s fault but just because sometimes that’s how life is) and she does professional singing for a while but one day loses her voice from an illness. She goes back to Paris because she doesn’t really know what to do with herself anymore and they reconnect and help each other heal. I really like it because it has lots of cute fluffy couple moments as they grow closer but also lots of nice angst. I also really enjoy Erik still having most of his insecurities and vulnerabilities but finally mature and self-aware enough not to take them out on other people anymore. It makes him internalise all of it which is good angst reading but also provides so many hurt/comfort opportunities for him and Christine 👌 It borrows from a ton of different Phantom media so it’s not exclusively musical-compliant but I don’t think it would be hard to follow if you’ve only watched that. It’s a really comfy fic - not exactly action-packed but I found myself staying up sooooo late unable to put it down nonetheless.

I agree. I really enjoyed the London Cast Album, so when it was announced it was coming to Australia, I was so excited. I went and saw it in Melbourne and, honestly, I was disappointed. I mean, sure, everyone did an amazing job and it was visually beautiful. I just didn't enjoy Ben Lewis as the Phantom. Maybe it's because Ramin's Phantom is so ingrained in my head, I don't know. I also didn't like the changes to the songs, especially Only For You/Only For Him. That was one of my favourites from the cast album and I didn't like how it was in the Australian production.

This staging is strangely 'static' compared to the Australian version which I saw at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne all those many years ago...watch 'The Beauty Underneath' with its swirling and strange obelisks filled with circus freaks and the wonderful footwork of the performers moving amongst the same obelisks whilst singing...it is quite remarkable and wonderful. We had a rather passionless Phantom there...would have loved Karim to perform the role....simply electric. I didn't enjoy the show back then, but have certainly come to enjoy it in the intervening years...

Agree. I saw this live 3 times, and the staging is basic about from the automatons. The set is very undynamic. The Australian one is amazing. But yes, Ramin is a far more accomplished actor than Ben Lewis.

13:26 most magical orchestra part of the whole musical. I imagine the low brass and the trombones with their arm stretched as far as it can go. Ive always been in love with chord resolution and low brass parts. Id start at 13:20 so you don't miss it. Then Ramin perfectly does his entrancing hand motions 😬😂🙂 at the full orchestra.

I love how Christine is always able to reduce him into a lovesick puddle no matter how furious he gets by simple responding to him with love, he’s experienced so little love in his life he’s still in awe every time Christine gives her love to him. He still expects her to be repulsed by his face but she doesn’t so much as flinch, she already knows what he looks like and it stopped frightening her a long time ago (Look With Your Heart, etc) And then she grabs his face and almost kisses him, after he almost chokes her (me thinks Christine might have a dark side underneath that pure facade 😅) and he’s still in shock she touched his face lol. She knows how to handle him, whereas in POTO I don’t think she was mature enough yet and he understandably scared her. Christine is a Woman now and she knows him too well…the fact that she’s not scared of his moods and is knows how to defuse the situation is why I CAN believe the choice she makes at the end of LND, even though Erik is still a wildcat, she has learned how to make him HER wildcat so to speak.
