I've got it completely maxed out, and it just weighed in at 23lb. The key to it is it's height, with a regular box you still need room for the tray, I couldn't even get half as many tools in my 17" barn roof box.

He can not appreciate yet how I love him so much and that box is worth investing time and care. One day he may pass down that box and all its history. My favourite metal box was made at Rolls Royce, Derby UK. Wired and hinged lid, soldered joints throughout. It was airtight the day I made it in 1974. It’s still airtight today. Yes I’m boasting. The fact is all the other lads were fooling around and smoking, so theirs all turned out crap. But I was 16, and all I did was shut up, listen to the instructor, follow the drawing, measure twice, check three times, and cut once. The Japanese take pride in their work. I’ve always admired the Japanese.

Back when I was in Middle School Metal Shop Class I built a tool tray for a Toolbox and several other things. Some 35 ish years ago. The steel and the spot welds are still going strong, and they will be around till who knows when... you can get for a Few Dollhairs short of “Ahundert” a decent metal tool box from a John Deere Dealer’s show room it’s not the way it’s used to be steel thickness but it seems to hold up pretty well. And it has the spot welded rear cleat and metal pin to hold it in place on the mount, that I Fabre cobbled together, and the tray can still be hooked on the front edge of the lower box and lines up with the lock hasp to prevent it from slipping off to either side... it’s kinda small but it’s got room for a manual greasy gun a bunch of rags, gloves, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, and tools that were made to go along with you everywhere... I will say I’m partial to the Green and Yellow but any machine that keeps it’s Value is impressive to me and buying it used in 2010 with 411 hours now with 14xx hours for a 2005 JD2210 compact tractor it’s still pushing snow and mowing grass. I’m thinking it was made in JA pan as well... the 23hp Diesel was!

A lot nicer than those made in DDR that were quite common in these woods, and anything made in DDR is actually made in Germany! (One of my favs: Acosta Party Grill - I don't know if they meant good times or political party; probably latter, as that thing was a burn hazard at minimum)

Hey! I have one of those grills made in DDR! And I'll have you know, it makes the best grilled ryebread sandwiches ever known to man! Just remember to unplug it after use, as the cheeseless thing does not have any kind of on-off switch. Plug and pray before that was a thing in the confuser world. Basically a heating element connected straight to an outlet via a power cord (that is skeezy as frig in itself). Housed in an aluminimunium box. That doesn't like cleaning with any soaps. But still werks to this day and makes the best darn grilled sammiches and grilled sausages ever known to man!

DDR stuff varies wildly in quality. I have a PA amplifier from VEB Klingenthal Harmonikawerke, which is low powered but constructed extremely well. As well as a bench grindr that keeps spinning for minutes after turning off the power. But their photo cameras are flimsy, and their tube radios alright but mediocre.

Just got a proto metal tool box for around 50 bucks few months ago. LOVE IT. I was buying hf metal tool boxes and replacing them every so often. Got tired of that. Only negative is its bigger, so now I gotta grow bigger popeye arms from lugging it around. Which really isnt a bad thing honestly. Plus now I have more space in my van toolbox from all the semi frequently used tools I put in my main grab and lets go box, so now I get to fill that extra space with MORE necessary items 😁. Like the 20 inch Channellocks I bought this morning 😁. Definitely an immediate need.
