Always keep a length of fiber optic cable in your pocket. That way, if you’re ever stranded on a desert island, you can bury it in the sand, and within a few days a backhoe will come along to dig it up, and you can hitch a ride home.

There's a very specific genre of workshop consumables, the ones that you only need once in a blue moon but you can't do without when you do need them, where you can't quite tell how long they've been kicking around in the shop because they haven't re-designed the packaging since the 1960s. Water finding paste is in that genre.

With a ladies stocking pulled tight over the funnel. Then you poured the fuel slowly into the car and any water ( there was usually a little bit) bounced of the stocking...

We use this stuff in the RAF here in the UK. We use it to find the water line in the bottom of 2.5 million litre Bulk Fuel Installations. We also use fuel finder paste to take a 'dip' reading in millimetres to then convert it into litres from calibrated charts to make sure the cold war era tanks haven't leaked overnight... You know what's always puzzled me?... you know we're like 70% water or whatever the fuck... If a human was to fall in the fuel Installation tank... Would we be able to float? Or would we meet a horrific demise by sinking straight to the bottom and drowning in AVTUR (Jet A1) fuel?...

We used to use that in the navy for finding water in AVCAT/diesel, but it was in tablet form and just sucked a sample out of the tank haha

Where I work, we have a 400kw CAT generator, that sits on top of a tank just like that. It is inside on a level floor and a heated room. After 15 years of backup operation and peak shave duty, one of the welds broke on the inner tank and filled the dry space between inner and outer tanks with diesel. We had to get a 1000 gal tank built and slide it into the corner. Those tanks aren't available anymore and it would have cost too much to swap the generator over to a new tank.

Just learned what a torque multipler wrench is. If you don't know, look it up and be amazed at how easily it breaks the most rusted nuts. Would love to see them put to the test and for more people to learn about what they are and how they work.

You don't need a battery-operated labomba to empty that fuel tank. 1: place bucket lower than tank that needs evacuated 2: place one end of hose in tank, one end near bucket 3: have dew-claw apply negative pressure to bucket-end of hose 4: watch science-magic empty contents of tank into bucket, also maybe onto dew-claw if lucky
