For me nothing beats using BSD as a drying aid after your weekly wash. A squirt or 2 per panel will work wonders. The water on the panel provides just enough dilution to make the application much easier and it leaves my Chrome handles very slick (the only part I really touch on the car anyway). I do it on glass, windscreen and wheels. I've been doing this for 6 months. The car was coated with Fusso Coat back in September and this combo is just fantastic. I really thought about mixing it with Beadmaker, not anymore. Thanks Jon! 🇬🇧

Thanks for doing this Jon and giving your opinion. I found the look given when I combined D&D and BSD on the GF’s car ( blue/green flip paint) was what got me into this a little. I can’t explain it but it just looked different, in a good way. Thanks again

Revisiting this video a year later after trying my own combo (mostly because I had no sealant after polishing and the Sonax BSD was running very low). I had fantastic results with (approx.): 65% Sonax BSD 25% TAC Systems Shinee wax 15% Water I was personally very impressed with the results. Very very slick and glossy surface, and it looks very well protected after a couple of rain showers. I'm going to layer it on a few more times over the next couple of washes and see how long it lasts.

Im not sure I can see any benefit GZA. just being honest. If after applying it the panels had the beadmaker cool silky smooth like glass like feel and the hydrophobidididty of BSD then it might pass the test. just felt a bit like a BSD with a bit of added wierdness with the application.

I agree in principal to your points. However, it seems there's only 1 way to settle this: Get a test hood and partition 1 section for Bead Maker, 1 for BSD, and 1 for the combo of the two. Then perform the gloss test, durability vs cleaner test and and long term test outside. What say you?

Another great video John. After watching both your vids on Sonax and Beadmaker I went out and bought both products and have been trying to decide which is best for me. I've decided both are. I'm using Sonax all over my truck while its winter and then switch to Beadmaker during the summer months. As no one gets to see the roof, I'll use Sonax all year round and save the Beadmaker for the pannels that people can see. I've been using the same trick for years, good quality maximum shine waxes where they'll be appreciated and cheaper wax where I need to shed the water and repel the dirt. I don't care about the wax's life as I clean and wax every week - even throughout the winter.

If you put beadmaker on top, you lose the hydrophobic properties of BSD. I would just dilute 1:1 with distilled water or use full strength after a wash and the residual water will be enough to thin it out

I cannot speak highly enough of Bead Maker! I know Sonax makes quite high quality products but Bead Maker truly kicks ass. Had some recent snow and the ensuing salt that comes with it and was still able to just pour a cup of water over the tailgate of my wagon and have all the salt and grime wash straight off even after drying over night in the garage!

I really like BSD. When I’ve not washed the car with a DI vessel. I like to use BSD when drying the car. Spray it on the microfibre and wipe off the water. Works great, feels slightly less grabby because of the water and is relatively easy to buff off.

  • @Audittr2108

I have two bottles of BSD. One neat and one mixed with BH Auto QD. The mix does feel slicker than BSD on its own and it still displays the water behaviour. I’m sure BSD has been a huge success for Sonax but with how often the grabbyness is mentioned, I’m sure Sonax could tweet it to be slicker quite easily. I suppose to get the best out of BSD plus Beadmaker, apply BSD and top with Beadmaker.

I don't mind using these spray detailers that often they are quick and easy. Thus, I think that its better sacrificing longevity and some hydrophobic properties for finish and gloss when you can just top it up in X amount of time. Unless you won't be able to wash your car for extended periods of time (like winter when the hose freezes). Things like Fusso coat are the closest to best of both worlds but it lacks gloss and application is definitely "harder".

2 parts Wolfgang's Waterless Wash (diluted from their rinseless wash product) with 1 part Megs Xpress Spray Wax: I really love my hybrid waterless wash/detail spray that I use by combining these two products. The Wolfgang product does not have a protection component, so I thought I would try adding it myself :) I've been using this mixed combo for 2 years with great results. I'm sure you can play with different similar combos until your bankrupt (like I'd be interested in using Beadmaker instead of Megs Xpress), but I know the hybrid I've been using works great. The Xpress Wax can be purchased by the gallon and you can dilute Wolf's Rinselss Wash to create a gallon, so both products are very reasonably priced at these volumes. For such ease of application, it is effective at cleaning the paint surface, adding very good slickness and gloss, and provides a protective topper to my Megs Ultimate Liquid Wax.

Hi Jon, I do agree what you are saying about mixing products. I have tried mixing ONR wash & wax with hyper seal and it separates. I do not think mixing makes much difference than using it separately. You will get the full effect by using on its own. Just a question not regarding this topic. I do not have a pressure washer but I do have a foam gun using the garden hose. Do you think doing a foam pre-wash is better than just doing a pre-spray using a pre-wash chemical? I think by using a foam gun, the bubbles are just not densely packed and just run off quickly to make any difference. I am not looking for sexy but just want the most efficient. Thanks Jon

I've done this too and kept it in a HDPE white plastic bottle from koch chemie that I had around, and the colour from the product transfered to the bottle and the product itself lost some colour to it. Also I had some marks on my black paint probably because i spread the product and didnt buff it out properly, but not a big deal as they got away as soon as I cleaned it with Green Star. Now I'm using it mixed 50/50 with Koch chemie Quick shine (Not FSE, which coagulates Fse) and I'm pretty impressed with the results Just sharing my experience.

I applied Bead Maker on top of BSD with good results. The incredible hydrophobicity of BSD was still very apparent through the Bead Maker which surprised me, even after a 2nd coat. But the massive gloss boost from BM was also very noticeable. The slip from BM when applied over BSD was approximately 60-70% of BM as a standalone. Also worth mentioning that BSD works well in the Aurobright 500ml HD trigger sprays! A firm squirt gives a lovely mist, 5 spray bottles for about £10. AngelWax QED also works well with BSD mixed 50/50 👍 Keep up the good work Jon.

But mixing two different products is a bridge too far for me... Curious, could you not just apply the Sonax and then go back over the car with Beamaker to get the slickness? Or would that just cover and negate the beading power of the Sonax? I assume you can never get the slickness of Beadmaker and the beading of Sonax specifically because it's the drippiness of the Sonax that makes it possible to get the extreme beads, and the slickness of Beadmaker is what keeps the water from beading very well. But I'm no chemist.

(I've been using Sonax spray and rinse) it would never occur to me to mix products together. I believe each product has been chemically designed for a particular goal. so the towel has soaked up theBSD material and the towel is now hydrophobic. fill a bucket with really hot water. put about 3-4% Psurfex HD in it to the hot water. leave it in the hot water for 5 mins. squeeze it out. then put it in the washing machine on a 60 degree wash with no detergent. do an additional rinse cycle on it. then low heat tumble.

  • @ForensicDetailing

I would recomend sonax as a sort of top coat detail spray which will add monster hydrophobicity and stick around for a hell of a long time, i would not recomend as a baseline sealant no. Its not perfect though. It does seem to get masked by dirt pretty easily and after its been on a while theres this sort of flat opaque quality to the finish. but on application the shine is good as well. but in simple terms its well loved for a reason and its dirt cheap.

Also, will BM work as a base (to get that gloss level), then BSD as the topper (never mind that we'll definitely loose BM's slickness) -- so we get the hydrophobicity of BSD and its longevity over BM? Never tried beadmaker, Loved using bsd through the winter as I found it repels road film to a certain extent, I tried applying it in the summer on a warm black car once.. what a mistake I’ve always found myself reaching for meguiars UQD, its cheap, it has half decent water behaviour, boosts shine a little and dare I say it’s slippery enough to be used to wipe dust off the paint 👍

Since Beadmaker's longevity is not something to write home about, I wonder if what you're getting (the best of both worlds) is only during the first 2-3 weeks of the process (BSD then Beadmaker). After a month, which seems to be the general life of Beadmaker, I wonder if it would've worn off OR if BSD actually prolongs the life of Beadmaker to some extent. Would love to get your thoughts on the matter. Cheers!

@@kangandres It's not a recommendation by Sonax, rather it's a recommendation by various detailers and KZreadrs 'if' you desire a more slick finish to BSD. If you want the best sealant properties it's best to simply apply according to the manufacturer instructions. It's just that some people dislike the 'sticky' nature of BSD, and I myself found it to slowly accumulate contaminants a little like a carbauba wax can do, leading to a slightly dirty appearance over time. This was after driving several thousands miles in British winter conditions - so pretty poor conditions! Applying BSD mixed 50/50 with water more or less eliminated this.
