    Awesome video and review and comparison Sandro! At the moment I have PA High Gloss as a topper on my car with PA Master Sealant on the horizontall panels and Gyeon Wet Coat on the vertical panels. It's a Kia cee'd SW with a silver metallic paint that's usually get the metallic flakes to flush out the depth of the paint. With adding High Gloss as topper this made a huge difference looks wise on my paint. With both getting it to look deep and the metallic flakes to pop which I have not experienced before. Sonax BSD is just a raw performance when it comes to the durability and resistance to the harsher winter environment here in Sweden. It's always amazing that such of a non slick feeling from it and still has that awesome water behavior and self cleaning ability from it. The Bowden's Own Fully Slick WOW that slickness seemed crazy high and those that like to have that feature this must be a favorite for them. Would have been fun to try it out. The Zaino ease of use seemed to be what it excelled in. But not a product I would by. So sad that the PA products has such of a high cost. I got the High Gloss 200ml on a sale for around 40-45USD which was decent. You use so much less of a product with them but still they are high priced products. Sonax BSD I get for 10USD but we are not far from Germany which makes a difference and these prices is with VAT and taxes included which are very high here in Sweden. But the prices is so different depending where we live. Happy New Year mate and take care!

    Bought Sonax BSD after watching your review over a year ago and I thought I would give some updates. 1. It will leave streaks after you apply it, so get another microfibre towel ready. 2. In my case, I have seen it actually lasted for 7-8 months, but do consider that the car was rarely driven during these lockdown scenarios. 3. Panels that were clayed before applying showed much superior longevity when compared to the non-clayed surfaces. 4. I found that shine is a bit on the colder side. It does not give that typical warm finish of wax. 5. You can dilute it to ratios as high as 4:1 and use it for drying the car. 6. The gloss levels do drop, but the water beading just goes on. 7. BSD has a little bit of UV protection (that's what one of their representatives said). If you want UV-A and UV-B protection then Seal N Shine is definitely a better option. 8. I felt that the mud collecting on the panels from the tyres during the rains has also reduced significantly. That's all for now. Will give more updates in future. Cheers

    I'm using BSD at the moment. It's dirt cheap in the UK. As you say, the beading and durability is incredible, especially for the money. For application, I put it into a misting bottle cut 1:1 with distilled water. This makes it so much nicer to apply and still gives great durability. If applying neat, I do it onto a slightly wet car so it's a drying aid and still gets some dilution.

  • @JWL-UK

    Brilliant comparison video! Sonax BSD is soooo versatile, you can dilute with water or another detailer like Megs Last Touch to make it slicker without compromising durability or water behaviour. Also, for application, always use a damp towel or pad. Greetings from the UK.

    BSD from Sonax is really great and has long been the top product in this class for us in Germany But there are 2 serious competitors. Relatively new is ABDL synthetic spray wax which is even better and something completely new. P21 spray sealing (still not officially on the market, preliminary products). This P 21 could even top ABDL and BSD

Thanks heaps

  • @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    The main difference is that a sealant will tend to be more durable so you don’t need to use it as often whereas a quick detailer can be used after every wash and even for cleaning up some light marks or dust due to its increased lubrication, whereas a sealant really shouldn’t be used for any light cleaning duties.

I had already tested the meguiar's mirror glaze deep-crystal coating M188, which is an excellent nano-polymer coating! It had an excellent beading effect while boosting the gloss. And maintained with the meguiar's top coat M699, it lasted a very long time.

  • @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    I would imagine that High Gloss would add some additional shine to the finish, but also understand that car paint can only take and hold onto a certain amount of product layers, and once you go beyond 3 or so layers in general, it’s harder to see improvements, and the last product you apply won’t tend to last as long because it’s being applied further and further away from the actual car paint/clear that it was designed to bond to. There’s no harm in experimenting and laying as much you like, but its really the product that’s applied to the bare paint that will bond the best and last the longest, and everything else is more sacrificial.

    BSD has crazy hydrophobics. Looks amazing in the rain, but how important is that? Water is rejected, but what about anything else? Which protectant property is more likely to reject, or at least more weakly bond to, road grime, bird bombs, tree sap, etc? Which protectant property would you rank as the more important, slickness or hydrophobics?

  • @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    2 жыл бұрын

    You can’t always distinguish individual characteristics as being the sole contributor to a particular environmental resistance behaviour, as sometimes it can be a combination. We’ll all still leaning when it comes to why products stay cleaner than others or resist dusting and contamination bonding better than others. I think slickness does help in that case but great hydrophobicity could also be a contributing factor as well as a resistance to chemical etching or deterioration. An interesting thing I’ve found is that simply decontaminating and correcting car paint (without even applying any paint protection) helps the paint avoid more serve UV and environmental deterioration compared to swirled and oxidised uncorrected paint. So just car paint that can reflect light more cleanly and isn’t littered with defects or contamination is actually able to protect itself better even without the aid of a wax sealant or coating. In other words there’s a lot of factors that come to play and can influence how certain products interact, behave and perform.

    BSD is really a full strength spray sealant to use periodically, Elixir is really a quick detailer to be used more often after maintenance washes so they are a different category of product. But BSD will tend to last longer and have better hydrophobic behaviour.

I love Z8, having used Zaino for over 20 years it has a spot in heart. I remember talking to Sal Zaino back in the day, bouncing ideas off him via AOL when the internet was in its infancy. Sadly I think the Zaino tech stopped around 2005 there has been nothing new or exciting from them in years. As for BO I can’t bring myself to use it. I won’t go into my gripes with it, let just say it will never be on my shelves.

    Brilliant shine detailer is an awesome product, but yes, its grabby ( almost feels like rubber ) and takes a bit of effort to remove, however if you mix it 50/50 or 1:1 with Meguiar's last touch, its much easier to apply/remove, gives a great shine and the crazy water beading is still there. I have a gallon left as I have moved on, I currently use a mix of Uber rinseless and Meguiar's X-press wax.

    Hello Sandro! Apologies for always commenting regarding another video or topic, but I want to make sure you see it! I got the new Flex XCE 10-8 a few weeks ago and finally got a chance to use it the other day. I am *not* an experienced forced rotation user and mainly stick with a 15/21mm random orbital or a rotary for heavy cutting situations. I have a Mille and admittedly never really use it unless I am on a very curvaceous vehicle or trying to finish down on delicate paint (5mm throw Mille) - However I am a bit of a tool whore and the looks and the “new 3401” so I call it got the best of me and I snagged it! Machine is very comfortable ergonomically and the motor is so so smooth - I love that. However, when trying it with some LC Force Hybrid pads (orange, specifically) the walk of the machine was absolutely horrible. I grabbed a regular yellow Rupes foam and it definitely improved my experience, but was still very uncomfortable. I fully understand that forced machines will have a tendency to walk if the pad is not flat and possibly more so if the wrong pad is chosen. I tried the force hybrid because I know they were so renowned for the 3401 but it seemed unusable in my experience with the XCE. I am full time with corrections/coatings/etc and I was going to be worn out after a single panel. What type of pads would you suggest trying to possibly improve my experience? I typically do not use hard foams for cutting, I would use wool or microfiber which may be much more smooth for me on this machine - however I really just bought this machine due to the 8mm throw possibly finishing better on delicate paints and for curvaceous vehicles so as not to have as much issue stalling. I don’t plan on this being my “daily driver” but I guess it could change. Any suggestions? Do you ever use your Mille/3401? I’m trying not to send this back and not to sell my Mille altogether 😂

  • @JordanWells

    @JordanWells

    Car Craft Auto Detailing Thank you kindly for the reply! I will absolutely have to give my Mille another go - I LOVE the blue and yellow wools from Rupes, I have some of the thin yellow/white Mille foam pads that I never really enjoyed but I’ll pull them back out. Very well could be the backing plate size, I didn’t think of that, I just know so many people swapped their 3401 to the smaller 4 7/8” plate (or whichever fraction it was) so they could run 5” pads. Later today I’ll have to give the XCE and Mille another go, both with HDO’s and Mille foam pads to see if I can enjoy them more. I don’t know what could’ve changed, but I could not imagine anyone being able to comfortably use the thick force hybrid pads on this XCE - however everyone loved them on the 3401. So you tend to use/enjoy your Mille more so than any long throw orbital you have?

    Sandro, I always hear that people love how slick a product feels, but what if I don't plan on "feeling" my paint? I want a product that improves the appearance and/or protects the paint. What are the real world benefits of a product's "slickness?"

  • @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    @CarCraftAutoDetailing

    2 жыл бұрын

    Slickness is a lack of friction that helps avoid washing and wiping swirls as your mitts and cloths are able to glide over the surface better without marring. People talk a lot about hardness of paint protection products but slickness is just as if not more important in preventing swirls when washing, drying and really touching your paint in any way.

    Might be worthwhile to add the PA’s range of products is essentially targeted to detailing enthusiasts who are willing to shell out serious coin for a boutique brand. It will never be financially sensible to use PA products to run a detailing business unless the client is willing to pay a premium. Also, PA products are handmade in Germany and are made to order, freshly sealed by a sticker with date of manufacture, which adds to its brand exclusivity.
