My mother was diagnosed with liver cancer on January 15th 2014 and died January 30th 2014. In those 15 days my world collapsed. It was a small celled cancer that started in her right lung and spread to her liver. By the time it was found (she had no symptoms) it was TOO late. She was everything to my family and me, our rock, our light, our heart. My father just couldn't function without his love, his best friend. We lost my father January 10th 2016. Life will never ever be the same. I miss you mommy and daddy. I will love you both forever and always.

Hey, I know exactly how you feel. And I probably feels the same devastation as you when my mother recently died. I don't know what to do. Friends and family have been telling me to let my mum go and refrain from crying so her soul can rest. But everyday I still do because she's the bestest friend I ever had. She joined me in England for 4 years and now she's gone. I spent 32 years of my life with her and all of a sudden she's not by my side. It is not easy.

+Renie Groom Oh I'm so sorry. 😢😢😢 That's ridiculous to say to you. She's passed on. You cry all you want. It's a testament to how wonderful they were as our moms and the void they left behind just prove how much love they gave us when they were here. Grief isn't something that can quantified or rationalized. It just is. You just have to let it be. You just have to let the pain be. My mother was the shining light in my family and without her... We're just not the same and never will be. There's no way around it. It sucks so bad. I miss her so so much. August 30th will be 2 years 7 months. It's astounding to me how time just keeps going on. You won't know how because the pain is so raw right now but somehow life will keep marching on. Look up the movie Rabbit Hole with Nicole Kidman. It really helped me sort out my grief.

Hey. thank you so much for personally replying to my post. It means so much. Especially now I will have to take her ashes back to her homeland, Philippines.. It is like rekindling that crippling feeling. I will have a loot at that movie and watch it. As you have said, its will never be the same again with our mothers. I totally agree. I know I am already mature but it just brings me to my knees when I always think of the loss. I hope that I will have the strength that you have had to make it through...God bless!

Must we really 'toughen' ourselves so much to the point that the passing of even the human who birthed you must be let go of and moved on from? How independent must we be from each other today?? Feel deeply and adamantly and unabashedly for your loved ones. It honours the life that they lived... loving you. (There should never be any getting over that!) God bless you both... and peace be with you and your kith & kin.

I don’t usually cry while watching films, but I must admit that Beaches is the only film that will ever instantly make me bawl. The song “Wind Beneath My Wings” gets me every time. I can’t imagine ever being loved that much by someone, let alone being that special and meaningful of a person in someone’s eyes. The closest thing I have to that form of love is my mom.

That especially tears me up because I already have a cat that does not at all get along with other cats. If it were me we would have had to find another home for it, and the last thing that poor girl needs is to lose another thing she loves. My dad died suddenly in 1999 and we had to bring my mother home to live with us 300 miles away. She asked in the same way "Can I bring my cat?" and I answered "You bring any old thing you want." (We didn't have a cat at that time, but I really wanted one).

I sang this song, aged 13 at my nanna's funeral. She was not only my nanna; but my mother, my idol and my best friend. There will never be a day that passes that my heart doesn't find her. I'm 16 now, I know that if there is one thing I want from my own life is to convey one tenth of the courage and strength she did until the very end. She is the reason why I will always try my best in life, carry on no matter what and she will always and forever be the wind beneath my wings.

Such classy editing. This is what is missing from cinema today. Bette walks over. Parallel editing of the two of them smiling. A shot of the beach. Closeup of Bette's face smiling, then worried. A pan to the beach. Cut to the funeral. As much emotion as their needs to be done in 6 shots totaling 90 seconds, without dialogue.

This was my mums favourite film. She seen it before I was born with her best friend. She was diagnosed back in 2015 with breast cancer and for the next year and a bit everything was okay she was back at work and doing great. She was off chemo and picked me up after I climbed Ben Nevis with someday friends back in July 2016. Then, things started too change. She developed sor pains and couldn't sleep. The weekend after my trip this happened. That Saturday the first weekend in August was the worst of my life. My mum was in pain and couldn't help her. Has any felt that powerless to help someone they love. In and out of hospital. We didn't know what was happening, but I think my mum know at the back of her mind. I got the call at my work to come as th doctor wanted to see me. My grandad came with me and made him stay. But I knew right away from the way th doctor looked. Right there my world was shattered. I came home that night and watched this film. As it's so me thing I recorded it for my mum on sky. My mum was my hero.

This is going to my 1st Father's Day without my grandpa. This song was played at my grandpa's funeral and burial almost 3 months ago. From this point on, there will be no Father's Day for me, it will remain empty. No one will ever take his place in my heart; not even my husband. This song is dedicated to him now and forever: Francisco Pena Sr. Grandma misses you deeply and so do I. RIP grandpa.

I just lost my father on October 4th, 2018. I'm 39 and he was 75. I remember like it was yesterday when he and my mother went to see this the week it hit theaters. My mom played the soundtrack for months after. I have always been afraid to watch it because i heard my dad cried in the theater so i KNEW it must be sad. ...Well last night the love of my life convinced me to watch it finally and maybe the timing wasn't the greatest with my father's recent passing, i absolutely do not regret it. Everyone should see Beaches at least once in their lives.

I’m 51 years old now, but I remember watching that movie in the theatre like it was yesterday, I remember because I couldn’t stop crying, and not just crying, but hysterically sobbing, did I mention that I’m a man? Not becoming behaviour for a man, but I just couldn’t help it, that last scene just ripped my heart out, and depressed to me for a week! I remember as soon as I got home from that movie, I called everybody I love, just to tell them how much they mean to me. I just caught a rerun of it on Apple TV, and the tears still flow, how is it I love that movie so much that absolutely devastates me, and turns me into a pile of tears? The guy behind me in the theatre was crying worse than I was, and his wife kept yelling at him, saying “stop crying you wimp and act like a man“.... I won’t repeat what I said to her, when I’m emotional, there’s no limits, what a coldhearted you know what! I know a minute supposed to cry, but frankly I don’t give a shit, I’m not a robot, I’m a human being with emotions, it was just really bad timing that I had just Lost one of my best friends to aids about a week before seeing that movie, and I relationship is very much like the relationship of the women in this movie, funny how art imitates life.

She helped me through surviving bulimia, suicidal thoughts, physical abuse and even while I was living in a group home for troubled teens..she convinced her family to let me live with them so I could experience home life, for the first time in my life. I promised her I would name my daughter after her and I did..I miss her so much, I’ll love her forever and look forward to seeing her in the future, in heaven. My mum couldn’t choose a song for her 2nd daughter. I always loved this song. One day when I told my mum how much I loved this the film Beaches and that this song touched my heart. Suddenly she said I dedicate this song to you (it’s who she was). A different meaning for me but I understand the underlying message. I know she hated the fact I am so independent, strong, and heaven forbid a mum out of wedlock! I lost my mum in 2018 and not a day goes by when I don’t think about or miss her. I’d love, at the very least one more hour with her, to just talk. I wouldn’t mend my broken heart but I explain a lot to her.

A great brilliant film about true friendship. Friendship that started way back in there very young childhood. A friendship of many lifetimes. Special friendship that is. This is a brilliant film for women yes but trust and believe me even men will cry many tears to this. I'm proud to say I'm one of those men. You see I don't pretend to be what I'm not like many other men who do. Years back I lost my Ma to Breast Cancer and seen what she went through. What some others don't understand is even films like this do help and heal us. We all need something to hold onto. A true friend is the wind beneath my wings. Its sad when she is ready to go. God I must stop peeling those onions. My eyes are crying time. And no it's not Sydney Australia. Beaches a great film even to have a beach party on dude..

this was my grandmas favorite film, she was my hero. She was like my second mother. She was my best friend. This song reminds me of her.

I use to watch this movie with my mom and now that she’s gone this song and this movie mean so much more. As cheesy as it sounds my mom was the wind beneath my wings. She taught me that beauty is deep that time is fragile and to live life the best that I could and my golly for her I will live the best life I can! Love you momma. Sandra Euton 6/29/2017

This song reminds me when I was facing heart failure and I was in hospital for almost 2 months and a bit. I was not allowed to leave my room. I could not breathe. I had so much fluid in my lungs. To take one step from my hospital bed was extremely exhausting. It was the most hardest thing ive ever faced. That's how sick I was. I was only 25. I was born with congenital heart disease. Doctors gave up on me and told me they could do nothing more to help. I felt like my world was crashing. I felt like no one cared. But one person did care. My hero is my Loving God and Saviour Jesus Christ. He not only healed me but. I can see throughout my life, he has always been their. In good times and in my hardest moments. I have had 3 heart surgeries to stay alive and maybe another one on the way. And still doctors are amazed how I'm still alive. Thank you Lord Jesus. In life so many have turned their backs on me. Even the ones that I thought that loved me. But there has only been one who has never left me nor forsake me. Who has never stopped caring or loving me. My loving God and Saviour Jesus Christ. His love is beyond words. His love and forgiveness never ends. He loves us so much. More than anyone. The sad thing in life! people will love you when you're good with them. But Jesus my loving God and Saviour, loves us no matter what. He is not looking for perfect people if that were the case we would all be disqualified. He is looking for those will humbly come as they are and trust him as Lord and Saviour. He loved us while we will sinners. That he laid down his life to save us from Hell. He paid the full price for our sins with his holy blood. He paid the price that we could never pay. He died and was buried and then he conquered death on the third day. to give us the gift of eternal life with him. Forever. He is such an amazing God and Saviour and a loving father. I would be nothing without him. He is truly my everything. God bless and I wish you all well.

One of the best movies about long friendships that I have ever seen. I do cry at the end every time. Makes me appreciate my friendship with my best friend ( we have been friends since 6th grade-about 23 years now). Love this movie.

This is my all time favorite movie. Growing up it was my first Barbara Hershey and Bette Midler. This is the most saddest scene EVER in movie history.

I lost my wife on January 7, 2021. I have lost the love of my life. When we were dating a woman told her that because she had only gone to the eighth grade and I was a college graduate with an advance degree, it would never work out. She was everything to me. She took a psychologically wounded Vietnam vet who was turning into a drunk and made him into a loving and devoted husband and father. She was definitely the wind beneath my wings.
