Lyrics:
It's been seven hours and fifteen days
Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away
Since you been gone, I can do whatever I want
I can see whomever I choose
I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant
But nothing
I said nothing can take away these blues
'Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares to you
It's been so lonely without you here
Like a bird without a song
Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling
Tell me baby, where did I go wrong?
I could put my arms around every boy I see
But they'd only remind me of you
I went to the doctor, guess what he told me
Guess what he told me
He said, "Girl you better try to have fun, no matter what you do"
But he's a fool
'Cause nothing compares,
nothing compares to you
All the flowers that you planted mama
In the back yard
All died when you went away
I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard
But I'm willing to give it another try
Nothing compares
Nothing compares to you
Nothing compares
Nothing compares to you
Nothing compares
Nothing compares to you

The fact that she remains the only artist to refuse a Grammy award til date is honestly empowering. She stated that music was supposed to help people and not to draw attention to the artist. I am an alcoholic. I used to listen to this song when I was drunk to ease my pain. I almost died. I am sober now almost four years. I understand why she was troubled. I put my children through hell but they have forgiven me. I have vowed that they will not suffer as Sinead suffered. They tell me that I am a good father now and they are proud of me. I try to live up to it one day at a time. Bless Sinead.

Strange, but I came back to this song this morning to send to my 34 year old daughter who doesn’t know who she is…!?! Of course I was here on Sunday 3/17, but I referenced Sinead to her and unfortunately she was too young and missed this whole story about her life, and horrible abuse, SNL incident, which never should’ve defined her, I knew my kid would love the whole “package” Sinead was. The voice of an angel that not only touched your heart and soul, but warmed them. Opened up comments and read yours…wow. I just wanted to say I’m so happy you beat that devil, and that your children were waiting for you. Beautiful. ❤

Hard hard hard line to tow, to speak up against evil. She refused to be silenced for that she payed…but the cost of not speaking up is death. She did as Christ did…I pray she at one time believed that God is a good God, a God that so loved the world that he gave his only son to die on the cross for all our sins and to DEFEAT evil. May she be with the angels now…for she was a saint for the ‘least of these’. God be with her family may they know His comfort as they mourn. 🙏👆🏼♥️

I was alive when The Lion and the Cobra came out. It was absolutely legendary, but, only to the underground scene and we felt privileged to be the first witnesses to her genius. I wish that pop culture had taken the time to explore her music before her cover of Prince’s song. I am in no way impugning Princes’s achievements, however, Sinead’s work was so filled with the tragedy and passion that would tear you down and empower you at the same time. I wish that I could have spoken to her, not as a fan but, as someone who could have made her understand that she wasn’t alone in her torment and that the end of the tunnel isn’t as far away as it appears, more’s the pity..

If someone asks you if you would prefer a dead arm or a kick in the balls, choosing a dead arm does not by default mean you think that is a good thing and only the least worst option. All religion is nonsense anyway, so I am with you on not understanding why she chose to convert to Islam, but totally understand why she left the Catholic Church, And I say that as an atheist with a mind of my own, despite being christened as a Catholic via the choice of my parents.

I remember being in my sophomore year of high school, and picking up a CD of an unknown artist named Sinead O’Connor. I stared at the CD case for so many hours. Her eyes were hypnotic and was a classic, natural, beauty. Yet, she as punk rock and rebellious as they come. I had never heard anything like her, and I thought she was so talented with a powerful voice, and even more powerful lyrics. She did not fit the pop princess type and certainly never tried to be that. She often spoke about injustices and was marked for it. Consequently, record labels did not want to represent her. I admired her tenacity in the causes that were important to her. She was one of the few people that were so outspoken to talk about all the sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. I was so incredibly sad to hear of her passing. She had many struggles throughout her life, especially losing her beloved son, Shane last year. I’m afraid that she never was able to get over that. Rest in peace beautiful Sinead. I hope you and Shane are together now ❤
