Do the walls and engine cover next! Thats what i need to do next to mine and I need ideas lol. And id go with the 2 seats or even just the engine box in the back so you dont loose too much space

I would use the carpet but put snaps on it to hold it in place, that ways it’s easily remove to clean or replace

I think you should go with the sun pad and bench seat in the back! I really want to do this conversion with my boat. Great video series and awesome restoration! Keep it up I can't wait to see the finished product!

Hi, I'm working on a bayliner 185 2000 with 3.0 , very similar as yours. Just fixed low unit, and made the brand new engine cover.... a lot of work to finish the boat. Nice project

I completely remade my engine cover, took apart the old one piece by piece for templates, and made a solid new one, along with some other wood pieces in the boat. Including the jump seat. I would definately put back 2 jump seats and the original engine cover.

I would definitely install the carpet last. Unless all the dirty parts of fixing the boat are already all done you dont want to risk getting the new carpet dirty or stained. I'm just a lil bit passed where you are on my 1996 bayliner and I'm waiting till everything else I'd done and I'm doing the carpet very last. But like you said your not going to glue it so then you could simply just fold it back to work if needed. You're doing a great job. Like watching what you're doing...

That's a good point! I think I'll hold off on the carpet till after I finish building the engine enclosure

Yeah save carpet for a bit. As for the back end jumpseats are nice if you have a few friends

Do the full bench seat and a Sun pad on top of motor. The chicks will love you for it. My wife is so happy ours has that floor plan. I have the same bucket front seats as well. Love love love the Blue on the seats! Make me want to change mine. You need templates from my front bow seats just holla at me buddy. I make some from cardboard and send to you.

I really don’t like carpet in boats but i think it’s a personal preference. I’m going to use a gritty paint for mine. Maybe because I’ll be in saltwater, and I’m not sure how caret will hold up in salt vs freshwater. I saw a video of a guy who built a large engine compartment across the entire back and I liked that better than the jump seats. I might do that. He then built a bench seat using that as the back for it. It looked really cool

That's a really important thought to consider, I'll be in fresh water only with mine. But I think the gritty paint is a really good option :)

I’m gonna use the one bench across the whole back but make jump seats incorporated into it, for more seating. So the cushions for the seats can be removed and slide into place low for seating and high to lay across the entire back

Hi Zach, love your vids. Do you remember what size bolts you used in the pedestal mounts to the floor? How long?

  • @ZachsGarage1

I was just looking at my part 27 video to see if I showed. I didn't say, but I think it might be 1" bolt lengths. They don't have to be super thick, as long as you find a matching t-nut size

It would be nice to see the front seats finished. Are you going to install a radio? You could easily fit two speakers under the seats in the front.

  • @ZachsGarage1

It does have a radio, but j may need to get a new one. I had hooked up the old speakers and the sound signal was pretty bad haha. So it could be the speaker, wires, or maybe even the radio itself that need to be replaced

I just tried to fix it yesterday by using some hi-temp RTV silicone gasket maker / sealant. I made a big bead all the way around the cork gasket and then around all of the bolts. Going to find out in the next day or two if it works or not

I am 100% against puting carpet in your boat.. that Bayliner originally has carpet and probably caused most of the water damage you just repaired. What about texture in the paint. Non skid Pumice med grit.. quick, easy and looks sharp. Plus spray off your boat after playing and your done!!

I like that idea, I agree. The new carpet I got is going to be more of rug, it will be removable, not glued down, that way it will be able to dry out easier, but more importantly, the deck will dry out easier and I'll be able to see if any cracks ever form for water to seep into, I think that was the biggest problem with the carpet and deck from the factory. you couldn't see all the cracks in the fiberglass / gel coat underneath so water just slowly worked its way to the plywood

Why did you spend so much time and money on painting and sanding the deck with so many coats then cover it with a rug?
