    I'd forgotten we met him basically the MOMENT we first saw Caprica Six after the miniseries. (I'd also forgotten they confirmed the house - presumably Baltar's house - was destroyed in the nuclear armageddon.) I also forgot how much I enjoyed it at this point. To me, some elements of the show started to feel like they were dragging quite a lot by the end, and the "head games" was one of them to varying degrees, but it is REALLY cool at this stage :) Also the first time we REALLY know for sure that Head Six is not Caprica Six. Caprica's behavior makes that very clear.

    "This is love. These people loved me. I loved them. I didn't pretend to feel something so I could screw people over. I loved them. And then I betrayed them. I shot a man I loved. She does it so well here.

    @@funnylilgalreacts For me, it was impossible from the start that Gaius was a Cylon, because if that was the case, they would have just had to 'switch him on' like they did with Boomer, and not use a 6 on him to gain access to the 12 Colonies' defence system. 😉 They had access to the colonies all the time to install rows of sleepers and active Cylons, and could send a signal to activate him at any time. That's why it was clear to me from the start that he was definitely not a Cylon. The question was always, why do Gaius and Caprica-6 each have a personality of the other within them? It's not a split personality, but one has a lot of fun pondering. 😁😊 By the way, if you like Tricia Helfer's acting and want to see another top series after BSG at some point, I would highly recommend the series 'Lucifer'. In my opinion a series with the same quality, similar intellect, wit, depth of characters and class of actors as BSG, but a completely different genre and of course more amusing. In my opinion, 'Lucifer', like BSG from start to finish, is one of the top 5 series of the last 20 years.

    Head Gaius is actually a more consistent character than twitchy different-motivations-every-day Human Gaius, which is kind of refreshing! And the attitude he gets to pull here is SO fun to watch. Plus making him very much mirror the themes that Head Six does with Human Gaius, but twisted around to fit the Cylon lens, is very clever.

    To be fair, a lot of actors are amazing in certain shows, but on most the writing does not require them to really work like that with other people also working for an amazing show. The problem is often they go on to other roles that just don't require them to show that talent.

    I think this was about the point where I kind of figured out the Cylons. They are stronger than humans and smarter, with near computer-brain intelligence. HOWEVER... emotionally... they are children. They have petty, knee-jerk reactions like toddlers on a playground. If you remember that fact as the series progresses, their decisions begin to make more sense. The select few Cylons that have spent significant time among humans have learned to deal with emotions better than the rest, but even they are plagued by psychological issues and tend to overreact.

    Doc Cottle was played by late Canadian actor Donnelly Rhodes, who also starred in his own 80's TV series Danger Bay. He was the star of the show, playing marine veterinarian Grant "Doc" Roberts and his children, Nicole and Jonah. Nearly every 30-minute episode featured the Vancouver Aquarium. Most episodes focused on environmental issues such as pollution, wildlife endangerment, and forest preservation. He (the character) lived in an AMAZING house on the north shore and owned a float plane. Talk about amazing lifestyle!

    I think the way the download process works is that the consciousness is received and saved on a server. Then each one is manually uploaded to a new body. So the Cylons didn't know Six was going to die right then. They were ready for her to wake up b/c they had just initiated the upload process.

    "Doc Cottle would never!" I think one of my favourite things about Doc Cottle is his pragmatic 'if it looks like a human, and it bleeds like a human, it's a human' view of the human form Cylons. Where just about every other character is like 'they're just machines pretending to be human,' Cottle's done autopsies on a couple of different ones, he's done a bunch of medical care for Sharon and has now delivered Sharon's baby. They've got all the same bits as humans do, and they're clearly genetically compatible, so in his opinion they're as human as can be objectively, scientifically, defined, so he's going to treat them with the same dignity and respect as any other patient. Which is not to say that he doesn't view them as the enemy. He is a military man, after all. But he's not going to violate his oaths as a doctor when dealing with them (the closest he comes to it is when they were going to terminate Sharon's pregnancy, but that did take a presidential order). (Also, a thing to take a note of: Admiral Adama was not in the room when Roslyn gave Cottle the order to find someone else to raise Hera, or during the hand off to Maya).

Callis should literally be getting no-audition invited to be on every show in production since 2009. Drama, SciFi, police procedural... doesn't matter. The amazing thing about the Cylon Models is that we also really start getting an understanding of what their individual purposes are for and how they really differ from each other and the other models. I remember when Baltar appeared at 6's 'rebirth' - I was jumping up & down, pointing & yelling 'CYLON' at the tv!! I really enjoyed this one, it was great to see a Cylon focused episode - no spoilers of course, but remember this one: it's a VERY pivotal episode moving forward! The entire cast are fantastic, I love how the show isn't just Good & Evil, Black & White - it's so complex and it's like the scripts & working with each other, everyone just raises their acting game to the next level, but this episode Trisha, Grace & James were absolute standout! Was shocked to hear you're falling in love with Gaius .... Lee Adama is going to be upset!

    The only way to make a war story REALLY last is to show at least a little of both sides. You can do it in a lot of ways - _DS9_ had a mix of somewhat comical satirical takes on authoritarianism and absolute despicability for instance - but if you only ever see the good guys fighting faceless enemies, it's limiting.

    The greatest thing about this show is the realism. The characters are complicated. Sometimes they fuck up despite good intentions. Sometimes they let fear and bigotry override their judgment. Sometimes they just hate. If I recall, Cylons thought they were better than humans because they did not kill each other. Yes, a Cylon could be "boxed" but that also suggests they can be unboxed too. Their consciousness is stored not wiped. In this episode, one Cylon does kill another and very much in a Cain/Abel method. The first murder happened, even if that 3 will return in a day or so. It is something often overlooked.

  • @firedoc5
    @firedoc57 ай бұрын

    Wait patiently and any questions you may have will be answered by back-stories, but then you'll get 10 more questions with the twists. The Cylons didn't realize how human-ized some of the re-born had become with true feelings from the time they spent with the humans. They also underestimated the power of true love and other emotions that separate man and machine. The concept of "head" Gaius is one of my favorite twists the writers came up with. BTW: Looking through some of the comments, some spoilers, be careful.

    11:55 12:28 28:20: HAHAHAHA! I HAVE BEEN WAITING for this episode since you started watching BSG! Yes, who is this Head Gaius? A delusion invented by Caprica Six? An implant in Caprica Six's head? Also notice the difference in how they guide and torment their charges. Head Six guides, torments and challenges Gauis with her talk of loving God (singular), but if anything Gaius is an atheist. Head Gaius guides, torments and challenges Caprica Six by challenging her faithfulness by pointing out her attrocities.

    I'm a bit behind on these reactions - still working my way through The Expanse reactions when I get chance, but like all reactors (there's more bad than good!) when I watch your stuff it gives me the same buzz as when I watched these episodes for the first time myself. It pulls up more emotion than just watching the episodes again, and your analysis is always spot on. Refreshing to watch someone reacting to a show you love picking up all on the subtle stuff, all the clues and twists without missing the point or talking over important dialogue. One of the genius things about this show is it can watched just for pure entertainment, or it can be a lot deeper - a lot of the moral dilemmas hot home because they are alluding to real-world issues. How we treat prisoners of war, how it is easier to fight an enemy if we view them as less-than-human, how we treat people whose beliefs differ from our own, at what point loyalty is challenged, weighing up the greater good against individual cost - there's so much in there that resonates even though at the end of the day it's just a spanking good survival story. I had to practically bully my wife into watching this - she was so resistant for reasons she still can't explain, but by the end of season 1 she was completely hooked, and not to give anything away, at the end of season 4, at the completion of the story (thank the gods they actually got to finish the full arc unlike the original which I loved as a kid) she was crying like a baby. And I was sat there completely choked up as well even though I'd seen it twice before. This is still one of my favourites of all time - easily in my top 5, maybe even top 3. If you think what you've seen so far is good, just wait - it really does not disappoint!

    20:58 the way D'anna says "Okay" there, that tttiiiiiiny bit of a beat of doubt makes me wonder if she's having a Cylon consciousness voice too... obviously she smells something there, she knows Six is scheming something... the question is, is there some ghost in her head telling her that? we never see any of the other models seeing ghosts, but there's no guarantee that's a feature exclusive to Gaius and Six.... I mean, both of them had traumatic experiences that _made_ the ghosts, but so did D'anna, so... :/

    This episode mostly confirmed what I thought about humanoid Cylons, if it looks like a dog, barks like a dog, wags it tail like a dog and smells like a dog ... it is a dog. The human looking Cylons went into such detail to look and act like humans they have effectively become human including all humanities good points (love, empathy, compassion etc) and bad points (hatred, malice, greed etc). the more you watch this show the more you'll see what I mean.
