Mary McDonnell is such an incredible actress and MASSIVELY underrated!!! She is truly legendary. Her and Edward James Olmos are just these venerated, incredible actors that give this show SO incredibly much gravitas!!!

Anne McCaffrey's dragonrider series had a dragonrider that wemt "between" and never came back. Him and his dragon were discovered centuries later by miners inside a mountain. Another "appearing inside a mountain" phobia found in scifi fantasy.

@@funnylilgalreacts they were very entertaining. The first one I read was the third book of the first trilogy called "The White Dragon". It kind of spoiled the first two, lol. But it was a great series. I think there were 9 book in all, if I remember correctly. McCaffrey was a tremendous writer, she loves the emotional roller coaster. I absolutely loved them. Fantastic series. Been reading them for over thirty years at this point.
The more I watch this episode, the more I know that Cavill and Tyrol's interaction here is basically the heart of the entire series. What is exchanged has so many levels and implications to it, that it is hard to undervalue its meaning.

@@jeffburnham6611 As Cavill says, they are the only family the chief has; they love him, lift one another up, and however he might feel about his actions, and it is only by pushing forward together that he can get right with his gods. We all do horrible nasty things, even toward those we care most about, & often end up feeling lower than words can express; all we can do is try not to give into our own fear, shame, and/or hatred & try to move forward.

I do love the passionate....'anger' our "lilgal' can showcase, in these epic shows. True connection with the show's characters and plot lines 💖
Right around this point in the show the soundtrack starts to really take on a life of its own. You'll start to notice that melodies and themes from certain characters will be blended in with others as their stories become intertwined. Can take on a hopeful, sorrowful, joyful, foreboding tone depending on the situation, I would suggest paying close attention to the music as the show goes on. I have always loved well crafted soundtracks, and the BSG soundtrack is one of the best, it is another layer of the story on its own and can inform so much without being exposition between characters. The only way I can describe the feeling of it is that it is a beautifully woven tapestry flowing throughout the entire saga. I still listen to the soundtrack on occasion and get a little misty at a few of the tracks in particular because of how integral they were to the scenes they were in.
Another great reaction video! Regarding the Election and possibly settling on that planet... Not every ship is the GALACTICA, or Colonial One. Most are overcrowded, smelly, bleak tin cans offering very little beyond the VERY bare essentials. So the option to live in Open Sky, Grow Actual Food, walk on Green Grass, Breath Fresh Air (not recycled)... can be a VERY powerful one!
@jerodast

The election made it seem like "we must decide this RIGHT NOW, one way or another!" Whereas the best course would've probably been to plan on a temporary settlement, and if it's REALLY compelling then maybe stay, but most likely just leave some outpost or even split the fleet (after all their original society was divided among multiple planets). The question of whether they're still being chased and/or findable is totally unanswered so just saying "okay I guess we'll stay forever, we're tired" is kind of like giving up. Buuut...once you're on the surface, wouldn't be surprising to see the mood REALLY shift to "you know, I REALLY don't want to do another year in space again for awhile"... People letting weariness and questions of comfort sway their judgement of what's best for long term future.
Dean Stockwell was also in Star Trek Enterprise. Only one or two episodes though. Scott Bakula, and Dean Stockwell together again, however short lived. Loved it.
With Roslin if she had told Adama maybe I would have understood her decision more but she spoke with no one, except the doctor who basically had little say and just obeyed. She made herself judge, jury and executioner Edit: she also didn't think to consider what would happen if the pain made Sharron turn against them or close off information in revenge
@funnylilgalreacts

Roslin can be a bit of a hypocrite sometimes. I’m not saying that as a criticism. It’s very human. Humans are often hypocritical. She often moralizes others but fails to apply those same morals to herself, which is something a great many people do.
I was very (happily) surprised to see Dean Stockwell. He's a great character actor. PS: If Helo were a cylon that would make Hera fully cylon child, and raise the question of why they had to trick him into having a baby with Sharon.
@YossiPreminger

Yes but no. They mention they've tried making Cylon babies the normal way and it didn't work. Tricking him would still make a difference if the difference was that that normal Cylons don't fall in love and that was the critical factor.

You commented on the music in the opening sequence. Great catch! It's a lovely piece Bear appropriately titled, "Something Dark is Coming." It's been on my study/work playlist forever because it's so gorgeous and compelling. I'm always so happy to hear others appreciating Bear McCreary's outstanding work on this show. Great reaction! ❤️
All the main characters keep finding new layers of PTSD, which if you think about it, is realistic.
Season 3 is filled with some of the greatest drama of any show period!!! Ur about to go on an EMOTIONAL rollercoaster! Sit back and soak up the incredible acting and story arc that is BSG Season 3
Hearing you talk about watching a show with your dad resonated with me because I watched BSG with my dad when I was still in middle school. I still love it to this day though now that I can appreciate it as as an adult. I also get the same feeling when I see Katie Sackoff in other projects that you get with Dean Stockwell lol.
Jumping into a sun was mentioned in the mini-series when Tigh warned Adam of the possibility.
If you ever have to wake someone up who seems to be having a restless sleep, or even a nightmare, kick, tap, poke their feet. Never put your face in front of theirs as they just might wake up like how the Chief did.
I hadn't watched BSG since the Finale in 2010...following a long with your watch got me to go through the series again for myself. Fell back in love with it and watched the whole series in a couple weeks! Looking forward to seeing your reactions to this moving forward! Be well!
You got it right about settling on an unknown planet. No infrastructure, shelter, or any kind of plumbing for a lot of people not used to not having it. It was a total shock to how Chief beat-up Callie like he did. At first didn't know if he had gotten drunk or a psychotic breakdown. Can't imagine how he felt after he realized what he had done.
Hope you had a peaceful Thanksgiving, we're all thankful for the episodes you stream for us. 👋 It's always a pleasure watching BSG once again, with your reaction of course! 😆 Your face at the end really tickled me, To be Continued... So funny 🤣
The reason Roslin wants to visit the baby is mostly to ensure it's being kept out of sight and that Sharon and Helo don't get wind of her existence and blow the secret. And I'm glad you're also a fan of Dean Stockwell. He's always been one of my favorite actors. Despite having watched the whole series several times, I would have wanted at least an extended stopover on the planet, if only to get some relief from the claustrophobia and perhaps collect new types of food and fresh water. There's a scene in the 1978 version that makes that claustrophobia very apparent when Starbuck and Apollo are being led through a freighter where people are living in shipping containers like you see on the highway. No windows, no portholes, and nowhere to go for months.
Dean is a fantastic actor- a very welcome addition to an already stellar cast!

I first saw Dean Stockwell as The Boy With The Green Hair on a rainy Saturday as a kid in the early 1970s. Before cable they used to broadcast old movies on local stations. I didn’t quite get the theme of the movie (it was anti war) but I knew it was different.
🔔 4:36 ? Of COURSE Roslin wanted to see Hera every so often. She needed to see what effect Cylon interbreeding would have on Human development. It must be remembered that Hera's foster mom had ZERO awareness that Hera was a hybrid and consequently therefore could not herself simply be briefing Roslin. Roslin HAD to involve herself personally in the matter.

Finally getting close to my favorite story arc in the show.
In regards to Dean Stockwell: According to my mom, you're not a real fan of his unless you've seen "The Boy With Green Hair".
Funfact: the Idea for Quantum Leap was based on plot line for a Time Travel Chase that had been originally pitched for Galactica 1980. After Galactica finds Earth one member of the fleet travels through time to improve Earth technology so they'll be ready for the Cylons while being chased by Dillan (Boxey) and Troy. Also, the Red digital eye pinging back and forth for the Cylons was reused for K.I.T.T. the AI car in Knightrider. And Dean Stockwell appeared in an episode of Miami Vice as a CIA spook who had previously been friends with Castille (Edward James Olmos).
*sigh* Frak indeed. I can't pay for BSG to watch it myself, so I love watching with you and your members. You all helped me through 2 1/2 months in the hospital where I almost had to have my L foot amputated. Thanks for making the time bearable 😊

Oh myyy, I loved your talk about having to wait for what’s next. But no spoilers Battlestar is about to drop the Mike on that one. Imagine having to wait months and months to find out what’s going to happen.
I was the same as you on first viewing, SO excited they went back for Anders and desperately hoping they weren't going to kill him off... Credit to the actors for the chemistry they showed early on because I believe the writers' original plan didn't have them going back for Sam, but Katee Sackhoff added the line about coming back for him so that they'd have to bring him back. (Obviously they didn't HAVE to use that but they clearly liked Michael Trucco so they brought him back for the rescue mission.)
@jerodast
7 ай бұрын
So Katee basically played the role of Starbuck behind the scenes too haha. Complete with wanting more makeout time with Trucco :P I'm a lil surprised FLG is so intensely on board with Kara and Anders being in love because she was a bit surprised at the sudden basically 1.5 episode romance. I guess their chemistry is strong, but personally I never cared for Anders (I mean, he's fine) so I wasn't that invested in their "love".
The Sharon that is pregnant is different from Sharon (Boomer) that loved and what shot by Cally. They have different perspectives on the life they shared. For example, Boomer wasn’t pregnant so didn’t feel the pains of childbirth or the trials and tribulations of becoming a mother. And Boomer regrets shooting Admiral Adama, something that pregnant Sharon doesn't feel. So while they share a lot of the same feelings, experiences and life, they but they aren’t the same person.
Ahh oh yeah warning to be continued LOL, this was a cool somewhat tense build up of things to come, this episode is mostly cool set up to things that get successfully confronted in the future, thanks again for the reaction.
Star Trek and Star Ears have both referenced things like beaming into solid objects like planets or traveling at faster than light speeds through stars, novas and black holes. All of which would be disasters.

It's amazing to reflect Dean Stockwell has been in cinema since 1945.
22:37 That's the reaction of pure joy. Rare to see in any reactor.
DEAN STOCKWELL! Yes! It knocked me back in my chair when he appears on the show. Although for me it's a bit different as I never saw any of TV roles. My memory of Dean Stockwell go back to him playing opposite Katherine Hepburn in LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT. Where he plays a young Eugene O'Neill. Katherine Hepburn is brilliant in this movie. And a youthful, twenty something Dean holds his own along side her. If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching. It's a quiet film dramatization of the stage play, so it's a slow burn. But the drama just builds and builds as it moves along. Classy as hell. And Hepburn at her finest.

It won't save you, but you will have all the pieces when you go to the hospital to be reassembled. This show is nuts by the end. you will love it.
I like the way you say that you are an "indoor cat"! Al! Dean Stockwell's Al character from Quantum Leap is still impacting the Quantum Leap program in the new series. It is not a reboot, but a pretty good continuation of the story! They are in the middle of season 2 for that series now. I am really enjoying your tension, and suspicion! Yes, at this point anyone could be a Cylon! After all, we do know they have meetings on Caprica, why not on BSG or another ship in the fleet? LOL! Looking forward to the next reaction!
The song you said is great musical choice you said in 9:35 it's name is "Something dark is coming" (Sharon said it's name in 11:05)
In consideration of the 'new' planet, I would prefer to think of it as a 'rest area' of sorts. Let the people stretch their legs, go pee, walk the dog, maybe just long enough to 'organize' the fleet. I mentioned this in an earlier post, but you've got about 35-40,000 people living in makeshift hovels in cargo holds. Some better, some worse. And this would be a great time to build more permanent fixtures, maybe some creature comforts, creating some sort of economy instead of letting the black market. What makes this planet enticing, is people are now in charge of their own destiny. They can invest their sweat-equity into cutting trees, making lumber, fetching water, growing crops, and if they had animals,... At this point of the exodus, ANYTHING has got to be better than staring at the same steel bulkheads, month after month, just waiting for the cylon attack that will end it all. That's just existing, not living. Adama's failure in all of is, is that he didn't plan for an exit strategy. No one put a deadline, or a window, or even a plan together of what this planet is/was to become. Granted, they could have lived here for the rest of their lives, but they'd have always questioned 'is this all that there is? Is Earth still out there?". Without spoiling, there is a lot that happens on this planet, good, bad, or otherwise. In the end, I would say that everything that happens, helps to build and grow the story. And that's the best part of it all.
I wonder if during the FTL jumps, Racetrack ended near an unknown planet just by chance... an astronomically small chance! or... Sharon had something to do with it.

Ok, Since you keep mentioning it, About characters not looking up at the rooftops, I ask how often in a city do people go around staring up. Lol.. Humans really do have a inbuilt blind spot regarding things at a greater height, ( Partly it's due to focusing more on where we are stepping, Checking for snakes 🐍 ect.. ) That's why attackers dropping out of a tree or something is such a omnipresent theme. Irl military personnel are even trained to mitigate this human characteristic 😄👍...
@akiraunio5227
8 ай бұрын
One more point. When they show the cylons on rooftops, camera is above and behind them, so you see all of the cylons, and the edge of the building, and the human on the ground. From the humans point of view only the top part of the cylons head (if that) would be visible.

PTSD trauma can cause violent outbursts like what chief experienced.
Chief is really going through it. Dean Stockwell is always a win to add to a cast. This planet can support life, but there is no infrastructure set up, and that would take time to get a settlement up to those amenities.
Unfortunately with the population size they have if they split up it increases the odds that one or both groups will not survive.
Chief on the floor. A little ptsd. I been stuck in thoughts like that where I looked like that. Rough times. He was in his head. Didn't realize what he did til it was to late.

10:37... carp, I remember this part coming up. Ow.
I first remember Dean Stockwell from his David Lynch characters in Dune and Blue Velvet. I know that the 1984 Dune production was troubled and Lynch lost control of the final cut but, it is still one of my favorites. While the 2021 version looked pretty, it seems to be missing many important details.

ALL versions of Dune except the source material omit important details. For one thing, they all have the Baron floating or flying. He doesn't. The gravitic devices he wears just help his heavily larded ass walk like a normal person.
Dean Stockwell is always good.
I'd be pushed to the front of horror scenarios. I laughed and compliment the scare things. Not sure if that's a problem, but it keeps people sharp like razors.
Sharon + Chief, Sharon + Helo... And people still talk about the tragedy of Romeo & Juliet
Mondays seem to be regularly and consistently BSG Monday.
I don't watch a lot of the commentary sections of other reactors, but I always listen to Angie's take on the episode 🤘🖖
"With his facial hair, I didn't even recognize Chief" That's often how men feel when women change their hair style. :)
What if Maya is a Cylon? On the subject of settlement I would say yes. The reality is you have a world you can live on. The other option is just a matter of faith that you'll find something better. One bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Sometimes life is too busy to play 'Who's A Cylon?'
Funny enough, I not only have gone through the PTSD thoyghts myself (spoiler alert, they don't go away easy), but someone I know now has to take a specific prescription for that exact reason. She worries about not having that, because of who she could hurt while being unaware of it. That's without thinking she's something she isn't, but what she's been through and survived where others didn't. Oh, missed this: it's specifically for going to sleep. Nightmares are different when you've been through combat.

It's the main one, being the colony Galactica herself represented, but it's easy to forget that there are 11 other worlds in the Colonies.

It also seemed to be the seat of government for the collective 12 colonies, so a natural tendency...which I'm sure the other 11 resent. @@VegetaLF7 Also funny to think on an entire planet there's only one group of survivors to rescue!
