Battle of the Bathtubs-Sheckley v. Dick: RGBIB 397

Фильм және анимация

In THIS corner... Robert Sheckley's DIMENSION OF MIRACLES (1968) and in THAT corner... Philip K. Dick's TIME OUT OF JOINT (1959)!
Who will survive in our latest bathing bathtub MELEEEEEEEEEE!
(The all 100% cotton edition.)
P.S. The lovely cover of DIMENSION OF MIRACLES was painted by, I believe, the great Paul Lehr!

Hitchhikers worked best as a radio play, its original form. I listened to it in the 70s on what passed for underground radio in Sydney and still remember it fondly. Couldn't agree more with your comments re Dick & Sheckley.

Yeah I heard that, and got the old radio show for my son one Xmas, which he enjoyed...

Yes. HHF2TG was first a radio play. I rate it better than the books, yet most books written before a film I usually prefer (except films like The Shining)

Cheers. Two of my favorite authors. Also, listening to HHG2TG audio version lying down with my eyes closed is better than the books for me.

Yeah I've heard the radio show is great fun. Just never listened to much of them except a few with my son when he was small. s

Thanks for reminding me, I always believe you need to read a passage of any book or writer you talk about, I just keep forgetting.

@@Scottmbradfield I used a book token to buy Sheckley's short story collection: 'Store of the worlds.' It was a good read, parts of which reminded me of John Cheever...in Space.

I've been a Dickhead for many years; PKD was my gateway drug to an addiction to weird SF.... Now I'm hooked on Sheckley (irrespective of genre).

Not many people among his readers would agree with that. I would rather stick with his novels. Stories are quite readable though!

Hahaha I'm so glad you haven't been irradiated! I am SO thrilled to hear your thoughts on Time Out of Joint! Watching your episode now 🙏 p.s. I never cared for hitchhiker the movie or the books. Just seems too out there and wackyland for me to get on board.

Wow! Great Sheckley recommendation! That Feet in Clay story sounds good too! Excited to pick it up! Douglas Adams is on the cover of the paperback "one of the great funny writers"
