Old School science fiction art is the Best. I never get tired of seeing what they come up with. I've seen some masterpieces that I wish I'd picked up just for the art. However, the stories inside are always gems. Some authors I've never heard of writing some of the Best sci-fi I can find, found in a small tome I wouldn't have picked up had it not been for that astounding artwork.❤

Yeah even when the book sucks I sort of enjoy it just because it looks so nice. Beautiful time to read paperbacks! s

I read Tucker’s book last year and enjoyed it very much. I was surprised by some of the ending revelations and that’s always pleasant. The rules and procedures for time travel make it interesting too. The characters had a good dynamic too, their differences reminded me of my own military/civilian experiences and interactions too. A fine story.

Interesting, I thought the military stuff felt real too, especially the crazy officers, but haven't the real life experience you did... s

I read a grand total of one SF book by Doris Piserchia : "The Spinner". Which was a strange one about an alien - with spider-like tendencies - which finds a way from it's own world, into an alternate world : ours. It also describes how a group of people, who live under the ground, cope with the alien invasion, which starts when the alien takes over an entire city - & then unleashes it's offspring.... She could really write.

I like all her books but SPINNER and FLUGER and maybe DOOMTIME are the ones I most vividly remember... s

Read that exact copy of Wilson Tucker’s ‘The Year of the Quiet Sun’ about a month ago. Very interesting extrapolation of the 60s into a dystopian future with destinations that are self serving for the president. Insider time knowledge. Of course it doesn’t go well. Interesting love story affected by time anchors the story in the end. Saw that twist you mentioned at the end coming a mile away. Also read ‘The Lincoln Hunters’ in the Ace Specials. There is an interesting undercurrent to that story regarding the motives of Lincoln in a particular speech. Thanks for bringing the love to vintage SF.

I read _The Year of the Quiet Sun_ (1970) quite a number of years ago. _The Long Loud Silence_ (1952) is even better. 👍 _The Lincoln Hunters_ (1958) is also fairly well known in SF circles: it was reprinted as part of the Ace Specials.

speaking of 1970, have you seen The Holdovers?...takes place over Christmas break of 1970....the acting is fabulous and the movie very very funny and moving (even if one note and a bit predictable), but def bathroom watching (keep the laptop on the sink far from the tub, available on Prime)...recommend....the year of the quiet sun looks and sounds gorgeous....my 2nd book (2025) is titled the year under the milky sun (may change) and god damn (oh, shit, sorry for the curse, i hope the kids aren't up watching) that IS ONE GORGEOUS COVER....anyd Scott, since we're both part of the bathing and non bathing literary world, i gotta say, i find SOLACE (not to be confused with Solaris) in your videos...and i havent popped any qualudes (just some sake as i was editing a piece early as im on a march 6th deadline for columbia journal deadline), but i get major comfort and joy from watching your vids...i feel relaxed and joyous after a couple hours wrestling with dragons (my own writing and editors)....so this a big thank you....and have i mentioned that every sunday night, when the wife is working on her shit, i spent a few hours away from reading/writing/world and watch a sci-fi flick....though i dont read much sci fi any more (did alot when very young), i do need to watch a sci fi film every sunday, maybe it is the world that sci fi still conjure (i mean, arent all sci fi writers in truth on drugs, even if added to pure mountain water, at least the california kind)....anyway, i just wanted tell you i've ordered the tucker....ok, that's enough for now...thank you for your service to our sanity, i feel more sane after watching your vid....stay safe bradfield, time travel aka writing/editing our sloth, is over a shoulder...you're the best....cheers, bb

I loved the TV series of The Tripods: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i6R826ubkbWYoKg.htmlsi=451Q-Uxp66x7eG24 Those effects were cutting edge in the 1980s.

BILLION DAYS is not my favorite Piserchia, maybe THE FLUGER is, but everything she writes is filled with humor and brain. Keep up the good Mojo, Mojo! s
