We were on a boat last summer and saw an eagle in the water. It was waterlogged and he was exhausted. I fished him out of the lake and got him into some sun warmed beach towels and dried him off. He was just so weary from trying to fly that he actually fell asleep in my arms. We set him on a nice warm seat cushion and just left him be to dry out with the wind and sun and sleep as long as he wanted. After a few hours he perked up and flew off. He was a little shaky at first but he made one pass over us and left. I am certain he would have drowned or been run over from a boat. Nice feeling to see them get back to their ways knowing you made it possible. Just takes a little caring and some common sense.

@@blacksheddie1972 Just so you know many bat species are on the endangered list and they are vital to the environment. If you kill a bat that is on the endangered list you do commit a crime. Smaller bats eat insects and without them we would be overrun by mosquitos and such. Larger bats like seen here spread seeds when they eat fruit and without them we humans would lose out on certain fruits that we love. So to care for the bats is critically important.

I've read that a bat colony can decimate an entire mosquito population because they basically eat their weight in mosquitos every night. I think it's horrible that instead of encouraging bats to kill off mosquitos, we spray toxic chemicals that kill the mosquitos' natural predators---bats & fish...and it also kills hummingbirds. Humans do some really stupid and awful things.

You’re all so delusional, you think life is some type of fantasy film. They need warnings on this video for kids especially. NEVER touch a bat especially if it looks ill. This encourages people to mess with or “help” bats that they see. 1 in 16 bats sent in for testing were positive for rabies virus. This is a disease that’s 100% fatal and kills you in the most painful way you can imagine. Bats are not “cute”. They’re the #1 disease spreading animal to humans. There’s FAR more than enough bats in this world, they do not need any saving. People like this who interfere with nature and think they’re doing something “good”, is incredibly stupid and simple minded.

I think the flying fox/dog faced type bats are really cute. But the ones we have where I live are unattractive. Most are the size of a winged mouse and have tiny bead like eyes, smashed in flat faces and absolutely huge ears. They look like little goblins and arent that cute. But they are wonderful pest control. Theres a colony that lives in a tree nearby and its cool to watch them when they take off to feed in the evening and listen to their chittering at night after they come back. Very few biting insects in my neighborhood

@mx mars The ones that live near me are called long eared myotis bats. They eat insects and are one of the more common types of bat where I live. They pretty much mind their own business and they way keep down the amount of mosquitos and moths in the neighborhood. Its cool to watch them when they take off to go catch bugs. They all go off at once and its neat to see them all fly off in different directions to hunt for the night. These bats are afraid of people and wont let you get close to them, so I know if one let you approach it, its probably very sick and to stay away from it and call the wildlife people. But vampire bats are pretty cool too. Myotis species bats look kind of like them, but they have a slightly pointier nose and they eat insects instead of blood. Vampire bats dont live in the western US though, only in central and south america. Id like to see one someday.

It's not entirely true that bats are the only mammals that can fly. Every time I fly somewhere (that's relatively often around 20 times a year), I see at least 2 to 4 stewardesses per flight. 😌 I think that in fairness one should not forget the species of humans. Because 1. they fly and 2. they can give milk and suckle. Some also make such (funny) noises, unfortunately I haven't found out what they mean by that, but I don't think it's a bad thing, because they always smile. Maybe someone here can help me with something if any of you have experienced something similar. I thank you in advance.
