33-Year-Old Bat Loves to Curl Around His Caregiver's Arm and Fall Asleep | The Dodo

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Statler, an Indian flying fox, was born at a zoo in 1987. Since then, he's moved from facility to facility. For many years, he was kept in a small space and used for "education." When he arrived at Bat World Sanctuary in 2018, his caretakers made sure he’d have a happy and peaceful retirement.
To help save more bats like Statler, you can support Bat World Sanctuary here: thedo.do/batworld, and check them out on Facebook: thedo.do/batworldsanctuary.

@@judigrumm7190 not just rabies, problem is bats are "supercarriers" and most viruses and bacteria they carry don't actually affect them much due to their extremely adaptive immune systems. Hence why the "covid from bats" theory has so much traction in the scientific community - virus is in bat, bat and human don't notice, human eats bat, virus spreads throughout human population because the entire time while in the bat the virus was improving reproductive capabilities, "trying" (not conciously) to affect the bat. By the time such a zoonotic virus reaches a human by ingesting or being bitten by a bat, if it doesn't kill the human within a reasonable timeframe, it will spread extremely fast. This is not all bad tho, and the adaptive immune system of bats is being studied in an attempt to develop treatments for autoimmune diseases such as AIDS.

they deserve their golden years to be safe, comfortable, fruity, sunny, interesting, filled with pals and caregivers who love them. This sanctuary should be very proud of themselves. If you want to see the Flying Foxes in Australia, there is another site about rescues and lots of content. Megabattie is the name of the channel. I learned to appreciate and love them more from there. Love this page as well. 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇

Awww this actually made me sad. Happy that he's safe, but the clipping of his claws was just gutwrenching. Love bats, they're so misunderstood, like many other animals. Warms my heart to see that he's cared for really well. 💓

This is a FRUIT bat not all bats are cute loveable creatures and it's been documented that vampire bats can drink HUMAN blood and multiple children have died after being bit by rabid vampire bats.
