She's done so many great performances, but here are a few outstanding examples, in different genres. For all out belting, it's hard to top the live band version of Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw. She standing and really showing how far she can go. The song itself has a very interesting staccato effect. kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6xnu6duh9DOm9I.html Showing her song writing ability in an original composition with her husband, where almost every note is decorated beautifully, dripping with emotion because it's about her estranged father. At the end, she breaks down and can't stop crying. I spent about 13 months in the Philippines and Filipinos are the singing-est people I have ever come across. Some folks are surprised to learn that a Filipino invented the karaoke machine, but, after spending so much time there, I wasn't surprised at all. I remember seeing a bar band that had 3 singers who could sing just as well as most people I heard coming out of the radio back in the states. Most bar bands back at home were lucky to have one good singer.

You know I've been a musician for at least 40 years and the thing that sets her apart is what you mentioned, how well she connects to the emotion of the songs whether they're hers or not. It genuinely moves me in a way that no other singer since Whitney has. The other thing is that being a musician for the last 40 years my ears are both shots and I had stopped listening to music entirely because it was normally just too painful if I liked the song but with her it's so smooth that I can listen at much higher volumes than I should be able to and it's like butter. I freaking love her and it's not an overstatement to say that she reignited my love of music

She did a Broadway series, my faves "She Used to be Mine" and "Defying Gravity". She did maybe 5 to 6 songs total during the pandemic for Artists Lab (she's wearing a red pole shirt). Each performance has an intro conversation that lasts maybe 1 to 2 minutes before she begins.

Peter, hey dude, just discovered your channel a few days ago and subscribed right off the bat. I am a lover of music and, in the last year or so I have really gotten into reaction videos. I have probably seen over two dozen different reactions to Morissette I learn something new from all of them. Your reaction to her cover of "Never Enough" was easily the most in depth and informed reaction that I have seen. And, your expressions as you listen allow us to experience your initial emotional response to her voice. Her Wishbus version of "Rise UP" is amazing. Would love to hear your thoughts on that piece.

I’m considering. Appreciate your technical observations. I have always had an ear for music and singers. Loved all the great singers from the 60’s onward, though, Presley was late 50’s. A great singer has many gifts working together to enhance the impact they have on our ears and you point out some of those nuances & idiosyncrasies great singers have. Morissette is a banquet to my ears and as a human being she touches us gently and with love. What’s not to like? Thanks.

I like the hairsplitting approach, this is an analysis video after all. It validates why I love this lady's vocals so much. There's another version of this song that she performed 2 songs on stage and she really let it rip, it was at the 2017 Asia Song Festival. I would also recommend her original EP titled Signature for her newer performances. For covers on the Wishbus Rise Up by Andra Day is another great showcase of her vocal abilities.

Even Morisette has a problem with her father she still pursue whats the best for her. She bang her head at the backstage before her concert and crying because her father was not very supportive with her career and love life. But still she still manage to show her playful character . And that makes sense, why she also put emotions in every songs . She once told that there are romantic songs she sang she can relate to her relationship with her father . Even the song is not meant for father and dauhter relationship haha . She really a deep person .

Wassuupppp Peter Barber!!! You are now blessed for discovering this kind of Artist/Singer/ Performer. An Angelic Voice and a?God-Given Talent!! One of a KIND!!! take note MORISSETTE never had a chance to win in any singing contest in the Philippines but, after a decade Morissette is most famous than to any other singers who beat Her in different singing contest and became Champion or a grand winner and still Morissette is the Best and the most in demand Artist/Singer/Performer. Thanks for the analysis Peter. Time and time again your dissection and break down of her technique has me seeing each performance in a new way. You HAVE to do Rise Up on the wish bus by Morissette. If the original video wasn't taken down it would be her most viewed video by far. Thanks you.

Morrissette evolved so much over the years. I can’t wait for you to check out her EP album which went #5 in the US chart. I think you still have a long way to go in order to witness Morisette’s capability before any comparison to Sohyang. But of course both artists are terrific vocalists.

@@enigma5014 I don’t think that made her popular. Vocal-wise her best vocal performance is Akin Ka Na Lang and Never Enough.

@@second1387 I think the best order this playlist should be is the one that Morisette promoted. WILL YOU STAY/MIRROR/TROPHY/LOVE YOU STILL/PHOENIX. The first three is more catered for American/western audience.
