Basic Nation Analysis - LA Ragha

Ойындар

Welcome to Dominions 5! This is the latest installment in Illwinter Games' long-running series of complex, intricate strategy games based loosely off real-world mythology, and a strong contender for the title of Most Complicated Strategy Game In The World.
In this video we'll talk about one of the major powerhouse nations of the Late Age - Ragha, the Dual Kingdom! Ragha is a conceptually fascinating nation, but unfortunately something of a balancing failure ends up making it pretty predictable in a real multiplayer game.

I'll have a look at the Patreon, seems like a small ask given you produce good, add free content. Only thing that makes me nervous is newer games and content crowding out Dominions entirely over time (rather than just cutting it to a 50% share as you describe). I'm here because you do dominions better than anyone else I've found, and while it'll be great to see you experiment with other titles, I hope you never lose the love of Dominions strategy and multiplayer content.

Haha, don't worry about that dude! I may *eventually* shift away from Dominions over a timescale of years, but I can't picture myself ever dropping it.

very almost started a game with these guys today, but got confused as to their functionality so this video came at the perfect time haha. Ended up starting MA Nazca (btw, the Commanders dont have to die in order to recruit the powerfull mages, but when they do die they come back as the Mummy version, remember you questioning that in some earlier video) PS: Never feel bad about promoting your Patreon to us man. Time Is Money and you spend time making awesome videos, you deserve something back ^^ If I had it to spare id be throwing it your way :P

Cool little video, personally i would like to see videos like this about unpopular nations, like Theodoros (no idea what they are supossed to do) or maybe LA Marignon (they seem like a good nation to spam devils with and then getting laughed at by Lucid)

I once saw LA caelum be able to put up a fight vs heat-ragha. He didn’t have quickness on his zhaedans, but nevertheless, sight of 500+ raptors tearing down 150ish zhaedans was magnificent

Personally, I somewhat disagree with your assessment of the mages - I consider the Caelian mage corp a bit better than the Turian mage corp for Ragha, partly due to the sheer strength of air magic, partly due to the nation summons, and also due to the fact that the Caelian side of things can semi-reliably force limited access to the Turian mages via the Breath of the Desert spell. You only need to acquire a single F booster to do so, whereas Turian mages just flat out cannot cast Wolven Winter. This being said, the Zhayedans are just THAT POWERFUL that the Turian side of things tends to win out in the power balance, but I dont think its quite as one-sided as you make it out to be.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on Bogarus, if you're planning on sticking to LA for a while. I like them conceptually but have difficulty actually doing anything with them, as their troops are mostly useless.

Yeah Bogarus is practically an archetypical rushbait nation; if they manage to live into the midgame they become incredibly dangerous because they have flexible communions and very effective Blood mages, but early on they can get eaten by Mictlan or Ragha or somebody without much chance to fight back. I'll do a video on them at some point here!

I was about to ask if he could touch on them! They are really fun to play but have the worst early game in the game while having the best IMO magic paths, research, and decent summons.

GeneralConfusionPlays the best thing Bogarus has going on for it is Bone Demons. Although Khlysty might be interesting now with the new blesses.

Lot of good ideas about new videos to make in this thread. But I've actually played LA more than any other era. And my take is that it is just too easy to get blood slaves as opposed to any other era. You actually proposed an idea I found very interesting in an earlier video. LA has lower site frequency than earlier ones, and it is coded so you get less blood slaves. But there are so many more high pop provinces that I think you actually get more blood slaves in LA than earlier eras, even if you have to have more blood hunting setup (labs, hunters, etc). I guess this is what you might call an "existentialist" problem or something. Only thing that vaguely keeps it under control is that some good blood nations (Bogarus, Marignon) don't really have the right kind of units to expand and fend off rushes until they get to the mid and late game. But other nations like Ragha, Xibalba, Utgard, Mictlan, Midgard, Gath, even Ulm don't have that problem. So if the dead don't get you (Lemuria), the things from beyond the stars don't drive you crazy (Rl'Yeh), the vampires or crazy powerful unique blood summons will. Not to mention the regular mages the blood nations I mentioned are no slouches compared to the non-blood nations. And Bogarus has incredible mages.

Great video once again! Ragha is an interesting nation for sure, and strong too. One think to remember about the Griffins that your Zhayedan turn into is that even though they are sacred still, they are also Stupid Animals or however it is called and thus they sometimes act unpredictability in battle, like the ma machaka Black Hunters

Such an odd nation, two entirely conflicting heat scales needed to access either end of the troop tree. That's a bit of a puzzle. I suppose when you pick a pretender you could give them magic paths in the relevant trees to cast heat spells for a certain province, wolven winter 3w and breath of the desert 3f1a right? So fire air and water on your pretender awake or dormant. I suppose a rainbow pretender makes sense. That way you can basically unlock part of the nation later on with your pretender. I suppose you could try using the nation specific mages which seem to be the flying commanders to cast those spells. Which suggests you might want to start with cold scales and just shift certain provinces to warmer temperatures when you feel like you want to switch. And the specific temperatures are heat 1 and cold 1. Alternatively you start with heat scales and have your pretender with 3w to cast wolven winter when they come online. Also the zhayedan gryphons have far worse defence skill, although their other stats are similar. With reduced attacks ofc. Very interesting unit. Interesting nation, could be interesting to try out just for this puzzle alone. I'm sure it's much harder to use your nation when you're a little handicapped in the early game.

I've been playing La Man. Very straight forward nation. I picture the Sacreds are just good Raiding Parties so I bless them with Morale and Attack Skill from Fire; and two Precision and Far shot from Air. Pretender I've been using Tiwaz of War with 4 fire, 4 Air, and 3 Earth. Earth Boots would let me craft Staff of Elemental Mastery. Awake or Dormant. Haven't yet figured out which is better. Early expansion is ok, but it all depends on if I lose any Knights. At 2 per turn things slow down if loses happen to them. I love the 3 commander points. A Magister Arcane and a Judge almost every turn is great from any Max Fort. With lucky randoms research grows fast. Be very nice if the unlucky Judges had something more to do. Patrollers and Troop Bus Drivers.
