Special thanks to Ancalagon for sponsoring this video!
I do my best to explain how i'd play LA abysia, the main challenge is making it through the early and middle game in good fashion! Stay tuned at the end for when we go through some silly builds.

Growth is the best scale for the quality of a province over time - regardless of who's province. For provinces you conquer by turn 40, it's gonna matter more whether their original owners had growth than whether you did. So unless one wants to turtle, growth is not nearly as good in practice as on paper.

Yeah thats well said, not sure i've thought about it in that way. I think growth becomes a better income scale pretty quickly though; just fired up an excel sheet and cumulative income from a growth scale is greater than order/prod on the 11th turn.

@@LucidTactics Yeah, but that order/prod income can be used to expand faster and/or with less attrition. It also allows for recruitment, so neglecting order and prod will in most cases leave you weaker for the early first war.

@@LucidTactics It's relatively quick in many circumstances, but when it comes to territory taken in war, especially when there's been raiding going on, the unrest reduction of Order also quite drastically affects the income. Growth is definitely the strongest scale in terms of pure income, but it's not as strong as often believed, and especially not at half strength where you're looking at 22 turns rather than 11.

@@Mewobiba All that said, I personally am still a fan of death scales on Aby. In EA/MA to overcharge your bless more and cement that early lead need I think they need. I have only done one LA game so far with D3, and it went very well. But I haven't done a G0 or G3 game for comparison. Unlike EA/MA I actually went O3 for that LA game for the unrest reduction and warbred.

As Jomon and Mari players are aware, xbows are very common indy types in late age, so Abysia can likely produce as many of those as their gold reasonably allows if you want that. It's boring, but you can just slam xbow + shield guys and run someone down on turn 12-15 using baby fire elementals. A lot of players take mwep, but not everyone does, and Aby itself isn't a favored rush/1st war target...reasonable chance you can pick someone vulnerable. I don't think bane fire is worth, other than just killing thugs/SCs when isolated so you don't get turn timer'd. Having access to bane fire dart does make it considerably harder to cheese Aby armies if their anyfort guys do advance and spells. Liquid flames of Rhuax needs the E path, it's more of a spell for EA and MA, and way worse than Ubar/Naba smokeless flame. It's not that much better than incinerate in many cases, which you can cast easily. IMO your evos are situational, but if you're using them it's going to be generic fire stuff + bane fire dart. Prison of fire vs elves and other stuff with high defense.

The flying and fire flare hell spawn are I think quite good in the raiding war. Hell spawn are undisciplined and faster than your scales troops so can combine poorly with armies, but a lot of thug or mage based parties that you might see raiding can have their scripts interrupted by flyers or their Body Ethereal buffed troops burned by the fire flare troops. The flyers are also decently efficient patrol chaff. The venomous fangs troops are hard to use; 2-3 attacks and death poison sounds great but they only hit for about 10 piercing damage... So they are mostly going to be effective against other chaff or units that are fatigued out, or are relying on defense instead of protection (Vans, some demons). Maybe in a late game fight, with Weapons of Sharpness and a strength buff, the death poison does offer a way to kill troops with Fog Warriors if you don't have magic weapons on the bless, since poison damage does proc even when damage is reduced to 1 by Mistform.

I would like to point out that unlike earlier ages the Anathement Dragons don't get earth, so the only way to get get an F/E combo is a very low 1.25% chance on the warlocks. This makes any of the fire/earth national spells pretty useless. You also don't have any way of getting D/E so no casting Reawaken Fossil.

@@VeilingSunYES anything you can get that's got a lot of HP attached is better than a human mage no matter the flavor. Undead is a disadvantage later on but most people with death paths also like having wight mages/vampires mid-late anyway. Generally though anything you can have as a commander that has high HP, high attack and size for helping with repel makes a good chassis for whatever you wanna do. I think we've seen a couple mega thugs in videos before where some random unit was gift of reasoned turned into a wight, given obesity, enlarged, then wished for might. Which is a lot of gems but with the right gear and spells attached they're hard to kill. Edit: my mistake thinking they're undead, but actually constructs. Arguably much better however since they'll be immune to a lot of mental spells that'd target massive units and commanders.

Like the other guy here, flails suck LA because they do blunt not slash or pierce, so they only get their damage bonus from hitting the head really. Which sucks late game since most other infantry have iron caps. So they're surprisingly underwhelming.

LA Abysia doesn't have access to cast Liquid Flames of Rhuax and Fossilized Giants outside of their pretender, so it's pretty hard to cast them unless you get lucky indies. I talked to Loggy about the crossbreeding spreadsheet he made and he told me that in retrospect there was some things wrong with the spreadsheet and that the scales of misfortune/luck didn't actually matter- though the age does matter what units you get. In general I think it's sort of a waste of blood slaves- they are hard to lead, and usually pretty bad. Of course if you get lucky with it they can be fantastic.

Man... La Abysia is such a cool nation with so many sick tools. It's a shame about EA and MA... like they aren't bad, per se, but like... why are their old age mediocre mages 200 freaking gold? everything is ridiculously overpriced for no real reason. If they just had normal 2 path 135 gold mages like every other nation they'd be perfectly balanced imo
