BARN FIND 1979 Camaro - Will It Survive 1500 Mile Road Trip?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." -Matthew 5:16
This 1979 Camaro has been through quite a lot. From sitting in a barn for 10 years being filled with dirt and mice, to being started and working out all the bugs while deep cleaning inside and out, we've been thrashing to get this car to road trip! The previous owner Mr Larry had unfortunately passed away after the most recent video, so I saw it only fitting to take this car on Hot Rod Power Tour 2023! Think it'll make it?

Very very few car stories make me cry. . . But when I heard that Larry passed away 2 weeks after Dylan got that running and gave him a ride, I cried hard! You did Larry right Dylan. Even more so by taking the car out to Power Tour. I certainly hope the family does see this video. In honor and Tribute to Larry. The car lives on through you.

That was me and my dad on the side of the road in the Regal. Thanks for offering your help, everyone was incredibly helpful while we figured out our fan issue. People gave us water, Gatorade, cookies, relays, wire, etc. The helpfulness and generosity of the car community always impresses me. We did make it inside the speedway and made the trip to Columbia and back to Atlanta the next day.

I'm not really surprised he doesn't. They're ultra-collectible and most known examples are squirreled away by collectors. If they're for sale, they're mega pricey, even by classic car pricing standards.

Everybody seems so cool and have open arms on power tour. Its like every auto enthusiast comes together and just gets along, has fun, is respectful, and reaches out a hand when in need. And you don't need a high dollar ride to participate. My goal or bucket list is to get an old car running and safe to throw wife and kids in and go someday. This would be my version of a griswald family vacation.

It was a great thing you did getting that Camaro cleaned up and running again in time to give Larry a good look and one more ride in her and to know it will live on and be loved and cared for by a new owner. My father loved finding rundown neglected cars all his life. When he retired he set out to restore his favorite cars that he had collected a 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Coupe a 1957 Oldsmobile 98 Coupe, a 1959 Oldsmobile 88 Coupe and a 1959 Oldsmobile 98 convertible. A couple of years after he had finished restoring the last one now with nothing to work on he found a 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday sedan that was built in California and spent most of it's life on the west coast. it has a rust free body but very sun burnt and worn out seats and door panels, no carpets or engine, transmission, or radiator. he owner had welded in motor mounts for a small block Chevy V8 and was starting to make it into a street rod but ran out of money and was letting it sit in an old barn. So my then 81 year old father bought it saying it was too nice of an original body Olds with a rare Cadet Viser over the windshield to be maid into another Chevy powered hot Rod. In the next two years he rebuilt the whole brake system installed a 1959 Oldsmobile 394cid. rocket engine and 4speed Hydromatic transmission that he had rebuilt. It now runs and drives like new and he was waiting his turn to get the interior redone. When he found out he had stage 4 Cancer at 83 years old. I told him that the car would be completed just the way he wanted and that all his cars would be taken care of by me and my brother and added to our collection of Oldsmobiles that our family has collected over the years. He passed away April 15 2023. I will have his last project car at the Oldsmobile national meet in Dayton Ohio in August 9-12 2023. With a sign saying THIS IS MY FATHER,S OLDSMOBILE!

I live vicariously through all you care restoration KZreadrs. In 1998 when I was 17, I bought an 87 Dodge Daytona for about $500. Owner wanted to get rid of it, it belonged to his brother who died the previous year. He just didn't want it and I was in the right place at the right time. I spent the next year and all of my savings and paychecks from my job basically rebuilding it. Engine ran great, but there was a lot of work and body work needed. It was my pride and joy until about 20013 when I lost it. Long story. I still don't have a vehicle today. And I miss road trips. It was nice what you did for Larry, dude.

My first car was a 1979 Monte Carlo. Man I loved that car, it had the same 305 V8 in it. That's a tough engine. Funny story is I drove it from NC to Ohio with the water pump seal all but gone where it was leaking out the weep whole. Never turned it off the whole 9+ hour drive because the battery was shot and had no jumper cables. I would fill up the reserve tank with bottled water when I stopped and got gas. Not once did it leave me stranded. But when I finally got to my destination I could feel the heat coming from the fire wall was so hot it was burning my feet through my shoes. Woke up the next morning got a new water pump and she ran perfectly till the day I sold it. I wish I would have never sold it I still miss it to this very day. And that engine was the most reliable motor ive ever owned. Glad you found you a gem and love to see you honor your promise to the previous owner. You found yourself a new subscriber look forward to seeing your journey with the 79 and new projects to come!

I love all your videos Dylan. Great to see how much fun and freedom you have in the States when it comes to cars. I am from NSW Australia and our motor vehicle rules are very tight. Flat towing, illegal. No air cleaner, illegal. open wheels without full mud guards, illegal. Loud exhaust, illegal. Any exposed rust, illegal. We have yearly registration inspections and fees around $1,000.00 per car. Oh yeah, I nearly forgot..Burnouts = fines and loss of points from your license. 12 points demerit.. you're out. We still have fun but our cars have to be up to scratch. Keep on salvaging these old gems. I have an iconic Aussie muscle car in the process and watching your videos inspires me to get motivated. Cheers from OZ. JD

Very sorry to hear of Mr. Larry’s passing but so glad he got to take one last ride. And on a lighter note, it sounds like Cole may wanna do a Hemi swap on his square body, and I know just the fella that can help him with that. 😉

RIP Mr. Larry. I am sure he was happy to see you driving it and giving it life again. Like he said "Livin!"! But I didn't see you in Columbia. :( (I'd get rid of that front plate with "evil" on it). I see you discovered the infamous Columbia trains. lol

Dylan I want to thank you this is the best video from Power Tour that I have seen. My two favorite parts had to be the dukes of Hazzard landmark and the Richard petty garage exclusive tour. I am a big fan of dukes of Hazzard and Nascar. This was a great way to honor Mr Larry i know he is looking down from Heaven and smiling

I think the lesson Cole's truck can teach everyone is a valuable one; yes, wash, scrub, make it shiny...but also maybe drive it a little bit, just to shake it down before you try to drive it 1,500 miles.
