I was a mechanic at an AMC dealer in the early 80s. They made some great vehicles. The only brand new vehicle I've ever purchased was a 1985 Jeep J10. Never had a problem with it, but sadly had to let it go when it was hit by a drunk driver.

Had an 86 Cherokee Four Door with Manual that never gave an issue whatsoever until around 150K miles when the clutch pedal literally fell off late at night while attending school. My best friend worked in a shop and came and got me and towed the Jeep back and gave me his car to drive. The next day he told me that he thought a connecting rod was getting ready to cut loose due to a knocking I had heard for years so I sold it to a guy (fully disclosed everything) who wasn't concerned because he was a salesman for a motor additive and planned to use the vehicle as a demo. I used the funds to buy a 89 Laredo, that car gave problems all the time even though it had a new factory block in it. Multiple trips to the dealership never resolved it and I sure missed my 86...

So glad you “get it” and are spreading the word. Events like the Hot Rod Power Tour are about the people and the journey, NOT the destination. Helping out fellow gearheads, ensuring you all keep trekking along, enjoying the stories behind the vehicles, and cherishing the adventure, no matter what it throws at you - THAT is what it is all about. If it was 70 degrees, no rain, cars had no hiccups or breakdowns… what a bore. What stories could you tell? What memories would you have? Can’t wait to be apart of it soon (if not 2023, definitely 2024)!

My car was white with a blue vinyl roof in back like yours, and a blue interior. I bought from neighbor with paper route and grass cutting money. It had been sitting in their yard for a number of years. I spent a year working on it to make it road legal. This brings back memories! If you decide to sell this one, please let me know! I also currently own a 68 Impala similar to Ikes Biscayne, this was definitely an episode for me!

We were an AMC family growing up, and my Dad always had one even before I was born starting with a Rambler station wagon, ending with my Mom’s 1979 AMC Station Wagon that we had in the family for 26 years. Never a better built car. They can sometimes be quirky- but parts are available. The Concord was AMC’s attempt to gain some of the mid-size cruiser status from the Grenada and the Malibu. They took the already successful Hornet, upgraded the interiors and exteriors, offered newer options, and the Concord was born. Hope you continue to enjoy.

Bit of a safety tip. Never charge on the low side with only liquid (you can slowly introduce it into the system if the port is a good distance from the compressor, but it can be tricky). If you introduce to much liquid into the A/C compressor it can "slug" the compressor and cause damage. This damage can be much worse when the suction connection is actually at the compressor. liquid is not compressible. And now back to our normal content...already in progress.

You know when AMC was formed one of the companies that merged into it was Kelvinator? Kelvinator made refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners. I say that to say they put the low side port on the receiver drier for a liquid fill or a vapor fill. A Liquid charge will work faster though...

I am no professional but I also thought it was a little strange to introduce liquid into the system on the get go. I always heard of not doing that or you can do damage to the compressor. However it seems like maybe there was enough Freon in the system to prevent it from locking up. No matter what, he lucked out on having a working A/C while driving in that hot and humid weather.

The old Concord was a great choice. And yeah, Power Tour, it's not about the destination, but the journey. The way people on the journey and locals on the path will come together to get folks back on the road is amazing. It's just an adventure. BTW, AMC fan here. I love seeing those things still going down the road. I keep watching for the right one to come along and I'll be an AMC owner once again. Years ago my dad had a little used car lot and took in a Concord wagon on trade. Concords are the 2wd version of the Eagle cars. It was a nice original car in pretty decent shape, and relatively solid. The car was one of those fake woodies from the factory, but someone glued a strip of home wood paneling along the tops of the fenders by the hood. We went to remove them because it was unsightly, but low and behold the tops of fenders were rotted out all the way across both fenders, seemed to be the only rust in the whole car and it was such a odd place to rot out, so the paneling went righ back on 😂 They actually made a 4wd version of that car, they had the Eagle coupe, sedan, wagon, and a hatchback thing called the sx4

20:00 - I had to fix the AC on my first car. AutoZone used to carry a kit that had connector and also 1 big can of combo R-134, PAG Oil and Stop Leak. Put that in and 2 short cans as seen here and it worked like a dream. Originally the AC Clutch wouldn't engage and would keep popping on/off.

Hoping one of these days we get to cruise together on Power Tour! I can whole heartedly say that you were the biggest inspiration for me to make it happen last year... We are the same age and seeing you do it in your wildcat then in the green cutlass I finally said "Alright I'm making it happen hell or high water" last year was an incredible experience long hauling for my first time ever and this year was mind blowing driving my crappy old farm truck 2100 miles to places I have never been before all whilst sharing the road with thousands of other hot rodders... I'm so glad that you are one of us that appreciates what Power Tour is REALLY about and not one of those that focuses on all the bad attributes... I tip my hat to ya Kevin. As well as all the youtubers that inspire me... Thanks as always for the awesome content and inspiration 🤘🤘🤘

My folks had an AMC Matadore with a small V8, no idea what size, but it was a good car. Jeeps last a while, especially the ones with I-6 engines like you have, most Diesels are that configuration and last longer than the vehicles they're in. The only thing missing was Mook, but you will get back home and see what kind of trouble she's found to get into.

One of my friends has a Concorde. Loves the thing, and even named it The Slut, with that same affection. As she puts it, she's had everyone else's parts in her, and in most cases, still does. She's had that car 24 years. Used our shop for a repaint, new seals, and interior work. As in, rented a bat and lift in our old shop, when the new one opened. Her grandmother had it, and sold it to her for college.

The Carter YF 2bbl used on the 258 (4.2) was notorious for flooding on hot restarts, especially if you parked on a steeper grade hill. Used to get a lot of "rescue me" calls where people would pump the gas pedal on a warm engine and flood it out, exactly as you describe here. The computer controlled feedback mixture / idle solenoid (black thing with a plunger on the right of the carb when looking from in front of the engine) liked to fail also. Pretty much bulletproof mechanically otherwise. Timing 6 deg. at 600-625 rpm (advance disconnected) if you want to tune it up. This is super clean for how old it is. With working brakes, safe tires and a cleaned fuel system I would have no problem road tripping one like that for a few hundred miles.

Now that really looked like you all had a great time. I envy each and every one of you for taking a trip to Power Tour in those beautiful hot rods. Love every one of them. I wish I still would have my 71 Mustang Mach 1. I was so proud of that car. My first car my dad bought me back in 1981. I was the second owner and it was in rough shape. My dad bought it for 400 dollars. The guy was willing to let it go for 200 dollars because it smoked so much when it ran. My dad felt bad only paying 400 for it. I was offered $5000 dollars for it back in 85. I had it running great and put a midnight blue 2 stage paint job on it. I had the interior fixed up. Not perfect but it looked great. I lost it about 10 years ago when I went to jail for about a year and someone filed an abandoned title on it. I had it parked at a friends house and when he moved he parked it on the street in front of his old house. The new tenants filed the paper work and I never even got notified about it. Lost a beautiful car just about a month before I was released from jail. Years later I went through a few cars and now I have this 97 Nissan 200sx. It has a dent on the drivers side quarter panel and the paint is so bad. However it runs great and drives like a new car. Looks like crap but it has never left me anywhere. For that I am grateful.
