Bark River Gunny Scandi Review

I review the Bark River Gunny Scandi and discuss how Bark River differentiates the Gunny series of knives from the Bravo series and also give a very brief discussion of some good knife steels for this knife since it comes in several versions. This is a great knife for bushcraft and is great but not ideal for EDC (due to the blade thickness/grind).

That purple burlap looks great I only own two Bark River knives the neck knife is well used with no issues. The ramped bravo came with and amazing sheath for horizonal or vertical carry and red lava flow handles can't seem to get myself to carry it LOL love me some fixed blades tho and usually always have one on me. Thanks for sharing & hope your having a great memorial weekend !!

Hi. The Bushcrafter handle is beautifull. What kind of material? Black SureTouch and red liners? Is it the grip good?

Thank you! If you want to become a Patreon member, I would love to have you. I was inactive recently on here for a while due to a medical issue, so I am planning on building my Patreon back up as I am posting videos again. I do GAWs approximately monthly. I am posting April and May GAWs before the end of the month. The April one is closed but the May one is still open. The prizes are usually more expensive than the total entries (I am not doing it to make money at this point but just to have some fun), but it depends on what I have on hand.

Nice review. For me, from experience with a gunny scandi I can say it's a good tough bushcrafter as well. However, it does not cut very good. It is one thick boi edge! I ended up liking the normal gunny much more for my bush crafting tasks.

It is definitely thick! For finer tasks people will want a different knife like the ULB. Since BRK convexes their edges, the normal gunny is likely still totally fine for bushcraft. What is your favorite BRK knife?

@@TripleEEDC My favourite up to now is definitely the Tope Recon! It’s an absolute machine, decently light, and i’ve been able to make it work!

I’m trying to decide between those 2 exact knives. May I ask about your experience between the 2 and why you like one over the other? Thanks!

@@j.p.4541 gunny scandi will never go dull with just a little stropping. I carved for hours it could still shave. It’s a EDC that can do it all. My favorite knife. I have a bravo 1.5 it’s the best battoning knife I’ve ever used and I’ve had all kinds of esees and fallknivens. It’s the scandi convex in combination with the water stones that give it such amazing edge retention. The bravo is good too but requires more stripping periodically to keep the knife razor sharp.

@@j.p.4541 I love the gunny scandi and the grind it has so much I started using the bushcrafter series. I have an ultralight and that has the same amazing edge retention as the gunny. I’m selling my bravos and getting the bushcrafter 2 just because it can do it all and the edge retention is fantastic. My gunny in 3v outlasts my bravo in crew wear as far as needing to strop to get back to razor. You really can’t go wrong with Bark river.

@@Bill-mw7shThank you Bill, I appreciate the info. I am now more confused than ever because they all sound like knives I want and appear to be held in high regard. Most of my knives are 6 inch high saber grinds except the Falkniven A1 in convex. I’ve been looking for a reliable scandi in 3V, and it sounds like Bark River is a solid choice. Thanks again!
