Love your videos. In fact, you convinced me to acquire LT Wright Boattail Scandi. However, I find it strange that you don't own Bark River Lil' Canadian. I have it in thin stock 3V (2016 model) and I love it. It is my edc carry even though I have XL hands. No problem with finger groves at all. Great little knife and you should definitely try it.

Good video! I agree 100% that an easy to maintain knife is best especially in the woods. If need be a smooth river stone would sharpen the knife, thats not gonna happen with 3V. Knives are a series of tradeoffs. Pick the attributes that are most important to you and let that determine the steel choice. My favorite steel is O1 with my heat treat followed by A2. I am currently making a knife out of 3V but for the most part I prefer a knife that holds an edge for a reasonable amount of time and is easy to maintain.

I love Bark River, I have a couple, since you're into the smaller blades, I highly recommend the White Horse Knives Caper/Backpacker (same knife, but the Caper has scales)... if you have, or know an ESEE Izula, it's like a Izula turned to "11" and in S30V. The gimping is possibly the GOAT, at least for fixed blades... on par if not better than the legendary Spyderco Para II. The geometry is flawless.

Bark river bravo 1.25 lt in cru wear is my do it all, medium duty knife, 5 inch blade but thinned out stock so it handles like a smaller blade, so it splits well, carves, skins, food prep, cru wear is stupid tough so the edge last forever and is unlikely to chip Id say say if you had to get one blade this would be it, handles ally bushcraft and hunting tasks, all camp tasks as well, its light and perfect for ultralight 1 day hikes

Say Heah, To each his own, one of my first and still one of my Fav's is my Bravo 1, I got it before the 3V era. Yup, it's in A2, but then I got a idea to make a 4Knife Set. So I got the Woodland Special, then the Bravo 2 and finally tge Golok, I still use this 4Knife Set, but I pick and choose. All my knives in this set are in A2 and all with the Ghost Green Jade G-10 handles. Then I got the Bravo 1 in 3V and then I got another one because I like it so much, I also got the Bravo 1.5 in 3V, and I'm working to get a set in 3V. Yeah, the Bravo 1 isn't as popular as it once was, but I love mine, Dilly, Dilly.,,.p

Hi there. Regarding your statement about A-2 steel being much harder than CPM 3V: I just wanted to say that no steel is inherently harder than any other steel. Some steels can potentially be hardened to a higher HRC (Hardness RoCkwell) -value than others, but in this case we are taking about two blades which are both at approximately 58RC. The reason that 3V is harder to sharpen than A-2 at the same HRC-value, is that the alloy in 3V is different than A-2, making 3V more wear-resistant and tougher than A-2. Your sharpening stone is simply wearing down the 3V slower. I just wanted to clarify. Best regards.

Got my Cocobolo Mini Kephart earlier today. Used it for kitchen duty. Then tapered and rounded the last inch of handle. As standard the handle has no contouring and a squared off edge on either side. Because the handle is just long enough for a full grip it is now more comfortable for me. A slightly longer blade than the Ultra Lite Bushcrafter and a bit more hand-filling. I like it so far for an all-purpose, light weight EDC sort of option... ;)

Great videos brother! I just stumbled upon your channel last night and have already watched nearly all of your videos and subscribed. Ironically I was told I'm likely receiving a Bark River Aurora LT in polished green canvas micarta for Christmas, and this was before stumbling onto your channel. Lol! I really enjoy your videos because you clearly have quite a bit of knowledge and experience and are very logical and educated in the way you speak. Believe it or not, that's becoming harder and harder to find here on KZread! Most of these big KZread knife and gear reviewers are just morons. My only criticism is that you need to maybe invest in a mic. It's quite difficult to hear you in your videos and it necessitates having to turn the volume up to a VERY high level just to hear you talk. The bad part about that is that if I forget to turn the volume back down after your video ends and the next video auto-plays, it's libel to blow my head off! Haha! By the way, I would be very interested to see you do a sharpening video. I'm curious to know whether you use lubricant on your sharpening stones or if you sharpen dry. Just out of curiosity, I noticed you've mentioned in a few of your videos that you live right off the Appalachian Trail, however you don't sound as though you are in the southern portion of the United States by virtue of the fact that you don't have any type of an accent. What state are you from?

In my opinion. Knives aren't for bottoning wood. If you're going to chop through wood, use an axe. Whether it's camping or at home. Use an axe. As for survival, you must go prepared so that you have the proper tools for wood chopping. In a survival situation, you must strive to save the edge as much as possible.

Question I have is....if you buy such a small fixed blade, then why not just carry a good folder. I'm not putti g down the fixed blades..... I'm only asking

dragon3831 thanks for the comment, the reason being is that these are for the purpose of woods work, bushcrafting, and general preparedness. I have very nice folders from benchmade, Spyderco, ZT, a CR sebenza, and many more but even the best folder with a lock will never hold a candle to a fixed blade for these tasks. I almost always have a benchmade 940 in pocket along with the SAK. These serve a purpose but if I have to baton hundreds evergreen branches off to make a makeshift bed for a snow shelter if I run into a situation while hiking or if my car rolls a fixed blade (specially one with about a 3in blade, and a Scandinavian grind) will always be a better option.

Hey brother, so you know the BRK Bushcrafter knife. It has a skandivex grind. Now tell me how you TRULY sharpen a convex skandi grind. It is not possible. I'll stick to my flat Skandi. Tell me.differently that you can magically sharpen a convex skandi in CPM3v. No way you are sharpening it effectively.

Batoning is SO overused. If you are spending so much time batoning, you need different tools other than knives.
