Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at a live performance of Barbra Streisand singing "With One More Look at You/ Watch Closely Now." Fueled with storytelling, emotions, insane vibrattos and control. Barbara's song takes a hard turn and doesn't look back see my reaction now!

Dereck, all I can say is, if you haven't watched the version of "A Star Is Born" with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, do yourself that favor...It's awesome! I can still remember going to the theater in 1976 when it first came out and I was blown away...And listening to the soundtrack so many times it's a wonder I never wore it out! Thanks so much for this one!

I went to see it and was so blown away that I just walked out at the end and went straight to the ticket office and watched it straight away again. My adult children always wonder why I like Streisand. It’s because I was completely shocked by her voice and style back in the 1960s. And she’s been at the top of show biz for 60 years. You have to have something really special to stay at the top since the Kennedy Administration.

Elvis was considered for Kris Kristoffersons part but they couldn’t come to an agreement because of the colonel. Elvis wanted this part badly. He would have been beautiful in it. This was filmed live for "A Star is Born" in one take with one camera. If you notice the camera angle never changes. It's amazing she goes into a full cry and still keeps her composure... You barely hear it...though she does turn around to wipe her nose. She's crying cuz she's singing to her husband who died in the movie. You have to watch the 1976 version it's the best one. This is her most beautiful performance. Btw I could listen to Barbra sing slow forever.

That's the finale of A STAR IS BORN (1976). Streisand is performing in character as Esther Hoffman, popstar-widow of Rock-N-Roll legend John Norman Howard. Within the context of the film story, both those songs were written by John Norman Howard. "Watch Closely Now" is his signature song and he sings it (or attempts to sing it) in at least 3 different concerts. "With One More Look At You" is a song he is shown writing throughout the third act and Esther (Barbara) finishes it for his memorial concert. She also performs at the memorial as "Esther Hoffmann Howard", finally taking his last name, showing that she intends to carry his legacy forward as part of her own. There several songs in the film which are written by Esther alone, the most famous being "Woman On The Moon".

i love this classic of a song by Barbra Streisand, i would listen to this song when my lover died in my arms of aids he was only 29 and i was 24 at the time , it was when straight people thought you got aids from touch or being to close, i saw so many guys die alone without family . It felt like we were dropping like flies, and fast. i would listen to this on my cassette player and since its from movie she just lost love of her life , in weird way I love her voice but also when she begins to cry it helped me to cry with her, and let go little of the pain inside of me of my lost , because I grew up men don't show emotion. Now all these years after I'm now 57 years old and it still brings tears to my eyes. thank you for this great memory .They all will be part of me , i never forget, it never goes away but hurts little less and when i think i haven't thought of a special person in while its always when i need them the most and it even brings up a smile.

This was the closing scene in her 1976 "A Star Is Born" after the love of her life, John Norman, committed suicide. The history in the movie surrounding both songs--"With One More Look..." and "Watch Closely Now"-- is what makes this closing medley one of the best tear-jerking moments in cinema of all time. You really should watch Barbra's version of ASIB... IMO her's is the best iteration of the four remakes. All the music is great (I personally love "Woman In The Moon"). Thanks for continuing to showcase the greatest female vocalist of all time, in my book. You're right, she tells a story like no other; a lyricist's dream. And BTW, Barbra NEVER lip syncs... she's always live and, as she says, "in the moment," which is how she can genuinely emote in a song.

The song “Evergreen” which was the huge hit off the soundtrack to “A Star Is Born” is a stunning song and you should do a reaction video for it and also you really need to do “Woman In Love”. @@eldiran2 underrated critically speaking, not in terms of how well it did chart wise or revenue wise. Except for the single “Evergreen”, the album was soundly panned among music critics and in most music media publications.

Though it’s a movie, this performance was live w/audience, band, etc.. The live performances were recorded direct to the soundtrack. This was at Grady Gammage Auditorium at ASU.

Lol. This movie was released on December 17th, 1976. My friend and I went to see it at the Har Mar mall in Minnesota, in their 900-seat grand theater. Yup. 900-seat. We went on New Year's Eve 1976, and it was at full capacity... I watched a boozy woman three rows in front of me return to her seat, miss, and disappear from view. People sneaked in splits of champagne; one got loose way in the back and everyone giggled as the glass bottle slowly rolled, and rolled, and rolled, all the way down to the front, during a serious moment in the movie. People were smoking and toking... Hey, it was the 70s. It was New Year's Eve! It was Barbra in a great movie with great singing. People were having a good time. At the end of the movie we all applauded and welcomed in 1977... Thanks for this memory trip. That seven minute musical ending, seen on a gigantic screen with 900 of your closest friends gazing up in silent awe at that magnificent voice is something you never forget... ❤

This was a great movie! Barbra's vocals are so pure - every time I have watched her sing, you can never hear Barbra take a breath - such control! In the movie - if I remember correctly, the backup singers sang with Barbra's character as a group called the Oreos - they sounded great.

I love watching your reactions. You are experiencing the magic of Streisand!! Watch A Star is Born and you will understand why the first half is slow and emotional. Also this is one long take with one camera and I believe it filmed in an outdoor concert space. Hot. Packed. And Barbra NAILED! Her version of One less bell to answer/A house is not a home is exactly why she is the greatest a consummate performer.

One reason you know Barbra is a legend is whenever she has an emotional solo in a film, the camera never leaves her. I can't think of a modern movie where a woman sings with no cuts. There may be some. I just can't think of them.
