The one and only and the best there will ever be and just think, she always thought of herself as an actress first then a singer. Such talent! She would have won best director for Yentl that year had it not been for Silence of the Lambs being released the same year, which won.

I'm a 70 year old watching American youths watch and react to "old" music from American and British pop culture wondering about how good those are - and then I wonder: what kind of music education and availability is there in the US that the kids don't know anything about their own icons. When I was their age all I had was music at school, the radio shows on 4 to 10 channels (including Germany, Austria and Switzerland plus AFN) and the record shops with vinyl and later cd albums. But I knew all kinds of music, the whole range from classics some hundred years old via musicals to pop, rock, metal, soul, R&B to industrial, jazz and hip hop. Including folk music of at least 20 different countries all over Europe, Asia and the Americas. - But now they have the Internet and are still ignorant of the wide range of artists there are and were! How strange - but it's not their fault but this culture's of separatisms. I appreciate those kids who seek and learn about cultures outside their boxes, that's why I watch these vids. But I keep thinking how very strange this is and that it's a very American phenomenon, there's no such things from other countries or only from very restricted ones. Artists like Prince or Sting or Seal or Harry Styles dont't have this handycap, they knew/know all kinds of music and you can hear it in their work. Keep up the good work, kids and try to give your own kids a wider range of music to choose from and enjoy!

This is the final scene from the film as Yentl heads to America on a boat full of immigrants doing the same. See the movie that Barbra directed, starred in and produced. It’s better than someone just clueing you in. For a real treat, check out the Yentl Medley from her 1994 return to the live concert stage after a 27 year absence. She does a duet with herself as she sings live along with this clip from the film. Astonishing.

I hope you eventually watched the movie. It illustrates the struggle so many intelligent women had in restrictive religious societies to enjoy the benefit of education. Yentyl was a Jewish girl in a Jewish settlement in Eastern Europe. Her father taught boys the Torah in their home, and Yentyl had always paid attention. All she ever wanted in life was to learn. Then her father died, and the people of their village intended to find her a husband and marry her off. On impulse, she cut her hair short, dressed in her father's clothing, and disguised herself as a Jewish boy. Disguised as a boy, she set off to join a Yeshiva, which is a traditional Jewish educational institution focused on the study of Rabbinic literature, primarily the Talmud and halacha (Jewish law), while Torah and Jewish philosophy are studied in parallel. She meets a Jewish man and falls in love with him, but must maintain her disguise. Oh please watch the movie.

You should just privately watch the movie with a glass or two of wine and just... enjoy it. PS: I always thought Disney should animate this with the original soundtrack. A JEWISH Disney movie! You can't stand her because you apparently don't agree with her, simple as that. Those of us who do adore every word out of her mouth-- from a stage, screen, recording, or elsewhere. 😉 But she has always spoken out, since the early 60's, so what was so different about the last 20 years if you enjoyed her the first 40?? 🤔
