Some people have no clue what property taxes cost. Watched a lottery dream home show. This couple was living in a dump. Not fit for humans. They won 1 million in a scratch off. When asked how much they wanted to spend, they said $750,000.00. I thought to myself they will be broke in no time.

If I won a million.. I’d probably do $250,000 tops on a home. TOPS. And that honestly wouldn’t be much where I currently live. Property taxes a year would be 0.950%, so $2,375. Then again, if I won a million dollars, I’d 100% move from where I currently live. You can’t get a modest four bedroom for less than $425,000.

This is how big lotto winners, and some celebrities end up broke. Super big expensive houses, that come with high maintenance cost, staff, taxes, expensive cars, private jets, etc If anyone is lucky enough to win a large lottery, after taxes, put that money in the bank, if you're going to invest, invest only a small portion. No sketchy investments. Never touch most of the principal, put yourself on a budget, and live comfortable and secure, on the interest.

Hi Ethan WOW! This house was magnificent. It truly had to be a beauty before they took out the walls. Seeing the bare bones of a house was a little creepy in the dark spots. The pool was huge. Having a creek or a pond in the backyard is really cool. I would have loved to own this house. Too bad they ran out of money and couldn’t finish the renovations. It’s a waste of a good house. It seems like they would rather demo a really beautiful house to put up a bigger mansion. It seems common place in Canada. Ethan I really liked this house and I am sorry it has a date with the wrecking ball. At least you documented it and it will live on in your archives. Stay safe and well.❤🏠🏚⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

At 14:15 the stud wall through the centre of the kitchen lines up with the stud wall in the basement, they are temporary support walls for the upper floor, which also looks to be built of newer wood.

WOW! What an incredible house once. And what a stunning setting and view. Must be even more amazing in the autumn. Really cool bar love the stone. Most homes are not as huge as the basement. So much wood in the framing and up in the rafters. Imagine how many trees were sacrificed that will soon be in a landfill. Sad. The poor creature that didn’t make it outside was sad also. Thank you for having the sensitivity to not show it. Thank you Ethan for this EPIC adventure. Take care and keep safe!

I really appreciate the perspective you bring to your explorations. Specifically your comments about the bar in this one. The communal gathering point. Can you imagine how it looked 30 years ago? Great question. I was thinking the same thing. You could almost see a bunch of friends...smoking cigars, watching a football game with that beautiful view out the window on a sunny fall day. I'm sure that house holds good and some not so good memories in it's bones. Great job...as usual.

Wow I can just imagine how amazingly beautiful this dream home was! 🤩, it's incredible even just see it like this, just the sheer size alone! It is fascinating to see just the skeleton of it and realizing just how much does go into the building of the home! Wainscotting is one of my favorite details in a home, that gives such a look and feel of beauty and quality I think. It is a shame really, that it has to be wasted, and the property is really beautiful as well! Very cool adventure! 😎 ✌️

It wasn't the lottery. It's a long story, it's a sad story. It's a borderline financially devastating story about an American that can't legally gain primary residence of a home in a country they aren't a citizen of. It's a story of love, it's a story of shorting stocks for a very long time And as interesting as things turn out. It JUST became a story of someone who watches urban exploring sometimes and just witnessed their home being trespassed with a false narrative. It was awesome seeing this video man. For real, could have been something great but it's a story than ended well in Seattle. Keep doing what you're doing. And again, thank you sincerely.

It's a shame they didn't get to finish the remodeling , refurbishing the interior as it has so much potential. The staircase is still beautiful. I loved the black and white tile work in that bathroom. The pool looked very big and the yard with the view of the creek below. Thank you Ethan for this adventure. ❤🎉

A lot of times when people come into money and make a big real estate purchase is that they don't take into account the property taxes that come with the purchase. The economy today is poor, and many regions have raised property taxes to an unsustainable figure. It's kind of sad really, even I myself have been pounded into the pavement by taxes and utility expenses rising, and on a monthly basis now, I am dishing out an extra $1700 than I was 2 years ago on 2 houses.

  • @cmum

I've had a whole house fire. The first things they do is demo anything smoke or fire damaged, including drywall. The owners probably cashed out and are selling it in as is condition and left. I see he has bankrupt lotto winners but didn't address it in the video.

  • @tjclarke4604

    @tjclarke4604

    Жыл бұрын

@@cmum That's a solid point. Usually though home insurance is for total loss and replacement, and of course the property is where the real value lies. In the case you mention, I would imagine the sell option would offer rather large returns and may have been more desirable than rebuilding. Plus, they could take the payout rather than rebuild, then sell the property. Large return. And, while I am careful not to make any false accusations or anything, but having grown up in a family of realtors, I have seen a lot of instances where people win big money, buy a big house, then realize they can't afford it (taxes, upkeep, lavish lifestyle), and then suddenly a mysterious fire occurs... Yeah, some people actually do that, unfortunately.

This must have been gorgeous before it was gutted. Fire damage makes sense for gutting. I think the kitchen was big and that "wall" was temporary (maybe support because of fire) I'd say the first two rooms in the basement were changing rooms, too small for a bedroom lol. I'd keep the pool and landscaping and build a smaller house, I don't see the use for a massive home.

In my home in England here my bedroom wall is all mirrors and they slide to overlap and are hiding a wardrobe of my clothes, but closed they are a wall of mirrors. I am a retired master carpenter and joiner O N C ,H N C and seeing all the studwork in that house makes me so pleased I never hardly ever had to do studwork especially on that scale it is so mind numbingly boring, truly a nightmare of boredom. Here in the U.K we call it first fixing carpentry, that is roof joists trusses rafters etc etc then floor joists and floorboards, then the second fix "chippies" come in and hang the doors fit skirtings, architraves kitchen units etc. Here though as a rule only internal non supporting walls are studwork.

Would have loved to see what the front the house looked like. You have a Cool accent, much like some of my relatives from central Va

You can see the smoke damage underneath the stairs. So sad. But that wouldn't be too terribly hard to fix up, costly sure, but doable..

Looks like a dance studio of some sort. With the mirror wall.

I can't imagine how much the owner spent on all of those custom rafters and trusses. And all the custom windows and electrical fixtures. OMG
