That is sum chipper . At our local dump they have one that is like a garbage disposal . I have seen it take palm tree cut offs and trees up to 36 inch and spit them out without stopping or slowing down. You can feel it as well as see the ground shake. Thanks for posting.

Have you tried out the 18xp? And would you consider a bigger chipper?

Just curious as to why you went with a drum style chipper opposed to a disc style chipper? Everything I've seen you chip is all hardwoods. IMO, disc style chippers outperform drum style chippers with hardwoods.

Why do you prefer a disc in hardwood? What in your experience makes disc outperform drum in hardwood?Just curious, not saying you’re wrong or anything like that, just find this stuff interesting. As a heavy equipment tech I worked on a few chippers and from what I remember my clients preferred drum chippers except for the ones who mainly dealt with softwood.

@@PurpleNovember Well, look at it like this. If you were to chop down a tree with an ax, you would hit it at about a 45* angle, NOT at 90*. Basically, a drum chipper hits the wood at about a 90* angle. A disc chipper hits the wood at roughly 45*. So it goes to reason that a disc style chipper is more effective on hard woods than a drum style. However, IF you have any stringy or fibrous material, (like palm trees) a drum chipper will be the best. I say this from experience as I sold these machines for a living for about 14 years. And I am in south Florida where we have plenty of palm trees. Bandit didn’t even have a drum chipper until the early 2000s.

@@Mike-hb4pc Okay that makes sense. The guys who dealt with the hardwood were up in Virginia and West Virginia. I remember having to clean out some really stringy material out of their machines. I don’t remember the species but I thought it was a hardwood, maybe not. There were a few disc machines I worked on in the North West area that were mainly used for softwood because that’s mainly what these guys did. I remember they liked how the disc machines did with frozen material and how far it would shoot the chips(when they could keep the discharge clear). So would a drum be better if there’s a lot of leaves and skinny branches?
