BAGDAD CAFE - I'm Calling You

Музыка

A desert road from vegas to nowhere
some place better than where you're been
A coffee machine that needs some fixing
In a little cafe just around the bend
I am calling you
Can't you hear me
I am calling you
A hot dry wind blows right through me
The baby's crying and I can't sleep
But we both know a change is coming
coming closer, sweet release
I am calling you
I know you hear me
I am calling you
I am calling you
I know you hear me
I am calling you
A desert road from vegas to nowhere
Some place better than where you've been
A coffee machine that needs some fixing
In a little cafe just around the bend
A hot dry wind blows right through me
The baby's crying and I can't sleep
And I can feel a change is coming
coming closer, sweet release
I am calling you
can't you hear me
I am calling you

Oh THIS is why I love KZread. I fell in love with this song after seeing Bagdad Cafe back in the 80s and then never heard it again. I’ve been singing it to myself ever since. Sitting here crying to be able to listen to the real song again after all these years... Thank you so much...🙏💕

I saw the movie in the eighties when I was a little girl with my mom in the bed and when this song came on I was absorbed by it and it made me feel so free and so sad at the same time. 30 years later I find this video and I still remember that moment in bed with my mom watching the movie and hearing this song.....So beautiful ❤️⭐️✨🦋

This is a hauntingly beautiful and unusual melody. It is sung, beautifully, by Jevetta Steele. This film was a gem: quirky, with interesting characters, a fascinating story line, and a mixture of drama and comedy. In 1990, I ate in the restaurant where the cafe scenes were filmed. It is in Newberry Springs, California. Many photographs from this movie were displayed on the walls of the restaurant.

I haven't seen the film since it was released in the late 1980s, nor have I heard the song again until now, but the song has lived in my head for the last 35-ish years and asserts itself there pretty regularly. I ended up here today when I couldn’t remember the name of the movie. It's lovely to see so many others similarly affected by this song.

I saw this movie at a time in my life when I had my entire family, a husband and three kids. Life was tough, but simpler so unlike today. I was so much happier. Now they are all gone in other directions. This song evokes memories from the first time that you heard it and the singer's voice haunts you as she sings, calling to someone, idk about wanting relief and change in her life. It's what I crave now at 63 as I am being called . . . - God bless, J 🙏💕

Randomly this song started playing on my playlist today "Calling you" I immediately remembered the haunting melody from my childhood, one evening dad was watching TV and mom was studying in the dining room, we were already supposed to be in bed but I was out (sound familiar?) and stood in the passage above the stairs watching the TV in the reflection of the sliding door until dad saw me and I skedaddled back to bed. The movie was Bagdad Cafe and I remember the awkward lady with the suitcase when she got out of the Rolls Royce and walked to a motel. No idea how I remember that. This is from 1987 so I was about 4... and dad would have been 35 (about my age now)

The first time I saw this movie was when I was 10 y.o in 1990! Didn’t realize it was a European film until I was much older. Gotta say, as a former truck driver driving throughout the United States....this film is absolutely accurate. Characters and ALL! Plus CCH POUNDER did a Great job portraying an Afro-American woman! I had absolutely no idea she was English neither😂 Absolutely genuine! My favorite most favorite movie of ALL TIME!

I can't sleep and listening to this song in a middle of the night, takes me to an imaginary scene where I took my mother to a place with a nice view , she likes beaches, so I was there with her, holding her hand, hugging her and giving her a kiss on her cheek and saying I love you mom, thank you for everything. My mom is in her battle with breast cancer, all my life what I can remember she works so hard to feed us, to make sure we have something on our plates. My father has been taking her for granted, their relationship is very depressing to desribe. I cant recall anytime my mom has taken a vacation to a nice place not even within the country, all shes been doing is working she most of the time doesn't even have time for herself. I am stuck with my study miles away, and I still cant repay her for everything shes done for us. Right now listening to this, all I want to do is to bring her to a nice place for a treat, because she deserves beutiful things in this life, she deserves a lot more.

I'm a collector of "cult" movies & this one is very special. The emotional connection between characters from parents to children & husbands to wives. I've been a bass player/singer for years. When I'm feeling good, this is a fabulous "warmup" for me. I was so enamored with it, I went deeper & found many vocalists performed it, including Celine Dion, George Michael, Jeff Buckley, Barbra Streisand and Natalie Cole to name a few.....enjoy! I still like Jevetta's version the best.

Just watched the movie again last night. One of my "go to" films. The song perfectly fits the mood of the the film. Whether you see semi trucks going through at sunset along the that lonely stretch of highway, or when Jasmine is deported back to Germany and the magic leaves the Bagdad Cafe, or when the boomerang clangs against the water tower, and then that haunting music is playing in the background, I oddly enough find comfort not only in that song, but I understand the need for isolation while still being connected to people and yet at times feeling totally alone and not, not liking that.

This cult film is one of the greatest, and this vocal rendition of the song is everything you want a voice to do for you when you hear a simple and moving lyric. Thanks for posting. Dr Martin Patrick of London

Where can I find the film online for free? Used to be here. Now everyone wants you to 'sign up' for something. I lived in Las Vegas for 14 years... This and Desert Rose were my highway driving songs..... I really want to see the movie again but can't pay for anything but rent, food, water, & internet Así es la vida de los benditos pobres....

Très belle chanson émouvante qui réveille des sentiments que, je pense, l'on connaît tous

OMG I still remember watching this movie in the 80s. This was one of the most moving songs then and now.
