I fell in love with this film and its characters decades ago. Have watched it countless times. It's quirky and uplifting. Full of heart. Truly beautiful.

My sentiments exactly! One of those films it gets better with every viewing. To me this is the best example of independent visionary quirky cool filmmaking. I’m so thankful I got to see it at a film festival and months later on the big screen in the cinemas
This movie is just a masterpiece, so many beautiful messages that makes you thinking for some time..
i tried to turn away from this movie... but those two lovely actors grabbed hold of my soul, and wouldn't let me go... one of the best movies most people have probably never seen...

@@allanhernandez2508 I just saw it for the first time on Talking Pictures TV. I was only 12 when it came out, but still, can't believe I never even knew it existed. The credits rolled ten minutes ago, I miss the characters already!
A very strange and lovely film. I wish more people knew it and could keep it to myself all at once.
I fell in love with this film many many moons ago.
One of my all Time Favorite Films. Jack Palance is Great. Just the Right amount of Weird and Funny.
My Mother and I discovered this movie when I was probably 14. I recall crying a few times and I recall laughing hard, out loud. The final music act has been the most delightful ear worm for over 20 years now. Find it. Watch it. Share it.
jack palance was so light & delightful in this
I was enthralled, fully engaged with this movie from the start. You can feel the emotions in these characters, played so extremely well. The song that is lightly sung during the movie- the women almost a soft whaling is absolutely hauntingly beautiful & I will still think about 🥲. What a gem... I'm so happy I found it that day, which was so needed. It's special. Please watch. I find myself bringing it up & if someone says they've seen it it's like we've shared a special moment!😊 I've also just recently put it up at work as a 'movie of the week' to see. & free on Tubi TV ❤
I saw this movie 20 years ago - my friend was dating a movie enthusiastic and they showed me this film. Somehow it really had an impact on me - have forgotten the plot, but the mood keeps lingering. Very captivating and powerful.
I'm catching up on my classic movies & ones that are somewhat older but all so new to me.. 1/19/21, I came across this movie. Kinda new to the storyline I'm familiar with the actors/actresses in it.. the late Jack Palance.. wow, I just saw a movie western with him as a retired confederate soldier along with his posse going up against Charles Bronson portraying a Indian.. that movie definely worth a view. Anyways, Bagdad Cafe' caught my attention with A+ acting all around.. took me to those times when I traveled myself.. just to visit new places, meet different people. Movies like this don't come around often, some still buried unless they are found. When they are or new ones have that kinda cliche', it's worth the time to checkout. I'm glad I did..
I've owned the 📀 DVD since it became available. One of my favorite modern films of all time.
This is a sweet little film that stays with you.

It took me a long time to watch this movie. For some reason it didn't look like anything I wanted to watch. I was So Wrong about that! I finally rented it (when we had video rental stores) and LOVED it! It is one of my top favorite movies of all. I owned it on VHS and now on DVD so I can watch it whenever I am in the mood.
I'm SO glad that I gave this film a chance. I took a while to get into it, as it was billed as a comedy in the synopsis - I'd call it an off-beat drama, most heart-warming, too. The only thing I didn't like about it in the end, was the end - I felt it cut off like it ran out of money or time - we didn't get to see Jasmin & Rudi's wedding! GUTTED! That would have rounded it off perfectly. Excellent cast, great script, I enjoyed the real human stories intertwined, I love it. 10/10.
One of the best movies Im ever watched.
I've never been more confused when watching the first 30 or so minutes of a film. But, I was intrigued - so I stayed with it. I was really glad I did. It is one of those stories where the journey is as important as the ending. Jack Palance chews up the scenery & all the actors do a great job. Nobody phoned this one in. I can understand how it's not a film for everybody, but, I loved it. PS - if you have seen this & loved Javetta Steele's version of the song "Calling You" - take the time to watch Dorota Osinska's - The Voice audition. It's slightly different, but equally impressive.

@ - Thanks, I agree. Since I posted, I have listened to Jeff's version. In my mind, Janetta's version is the most soulful, Dorota's is the most moving, and Jeff's is devastatingly painful. No need to rate or compare them. Great is just great.

This trailer does not do the movie justice at all. Nothing in the movie suggests that Jasmine had 'never seen a black person' before. The movie itself is so much more subtle and slice-of-life. Surreal life, sure, but a very sweet and lovely surreal life.
Rode my motorcycle out there with a buddy today and had breakfast. We were the only customers in there. We were served by three older people that were haggard and and mostly toothless, but they cooked a mean breakfast and gave great service! What a strange little place! We fed three dogs that sat in the middle of the road out front and then took off towards Joshua Tree
