Lyrics:
Boul ma sene, boul ma guiss madi re nga fokni mane
Khamouma li neka thi sama souf ak thi guinaw
Beugouma kouma khol oaldine yaw li neka si yaw
mo ne si man, li ne si mane moye dilene diapale
Roughneck and rudeness,
We should be using, on the ones who practice wicked charms
For the sword and the stone
Bad to the bone
Battle is not over
Even when it's won
And when a child is born into this world
It has no concept
Of the tone the skin is living in
It's not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting
It's not a second
7 seconds away
Just as long as I stay
I'll be waiting

My dad used to play this song over n over for my mom and would go hug her so tight , telling her how much he loves and adores her . 20 some years later , I still remember those moments. That pure love between them is what kept me and my 4 other siblings away from hatred, negativity and racism . She passed away in 2006, he still plays the song. 16 years and he never remarried ❤️❤️🙏🙏 Love from Iran. #woman_life_freedom

Indeed Youssou Ndour revolutionized African music not to say culture. As a Senegalese girl, it always gives me goosebumps while listening to his songs (old and new) let me just say I am proud of our interplanetary star. He is timeless ❤ 🇸🇳

As a kid born into poverty in one of the UK's most deprived cities ( Birmingham ) in the 80's this song really resonates with me on such a profound and emotional level and also with so many decent working class and ethnic minority kid's born into similar circumstances like mine that have encountered similar social and economic disadvantages during that period growing up in England kids who literally had nothing but hardship yet still aspired to work hard and educate themselves out of poverty ? It was tough , draining and challenging but i managed to do it thanks to surrounding myself with kids who were smarter and more ambitious than me and poor uneducated parents who worked hard for pittance and yet still pushed me to excel myself at school academically and now years later whenever i hear this track its quite soul destroying , tearful and sad to hear this track as its a prime example of how tough life is if your born into poverty and the odds are stacked against you.

Used to listen to this song driving in the overloaded van going to school in The Gambia. Youssous language is Wollof! He is just saying "don't see me Smile and think that I do not know what is under and behind me" African metaphor for self consciousnesses. I wrote my first piece of poetry from this song way back when I was eleven! Meaningful Nostalgia now and forever!

Thank you Modou, He used also French in this song between 1.44 and 2.08 : J'assume les raisons qui nous poussent de changer tout, J'aimerais qu'on oublie leur couleur pour qu'ils esperent Beaucoup de sentiments de race qui font qu'ils desesperent Je veux les portes grandements ouvertes, Des amis pour parler de leur peine, de leur joie Pour qu'ils leur filent des infos qui ne divisent pas Changer Very beautiful song, very difficult to translate in English ... And in Wollof, I heard about it today Thanks one more time Modou, and happy to speak with all the world so easily The peace could arrive by this way only !!!

Beautiful song I used to listen to this in Africa when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Gabon. I assume why we push to change everything I want to forget skin color for hope's sake But too many strong feelings about race crush hope I want to see the doors flung wide open between friends to talk openly about all of their pains and joys to let flow all information that (unites) won't divide us The last line is very interesting. "let flow info that doesn't divide us" meaning "if we care enough to talk about our problems they won't be problems". The more we discourse the more we realize we are the same "au coeur". This is so true. The story of humanity is so sad, but it doesn't have to be this bad. I feel my country is no longer deserving to lead the world as Trump supporters in America want to stop all serious discussions of race and actually strongly encourage anti-PC culture in order to "let flow the info that (divides us) won't unite us" .
I have just listen this song over a radio at work and i told my colleagues who is the singer and they where surprised . A song like this is a masterpiece even after 30 years it will be forever a masterpiece and timeless composition. Just by listening the song at that moment over the radio i started to cry because i now the message of this song and i couldn`t help not to cry. I will never forghet this song .

Such a powerful and soulful song that beautifully combines African rhythms and Neneh Cherry's vocals. It carries a meaningful message of unity and understanding, making it a timeless and inspirational track.👏♥

1994 Great song 2024 Great song 😍
I think it's the most unexpected yet genius vocals combination... a perfect duo
I came here just for nostalgia, but the lyrics made me think how much things have changed since 1997. I was brought up to look past the colour of people's skin, but now it seems that skin colour is the single most defining quality of a person. It feels like common humanity is now an outdated idea. I'll just switch off the news and social media and live in the mist of nostalgia. It's an infinitely happier place.
@Musicienne-DAB1995

Skin colour definitely is not the single most defining quality of a person. The only ones who perpetuate this idea are bigots, and misguided ideologues pretending to "correct" wrongdoing. The more we treat each other decently and judge based on character, the less relevant skin colour becomes other than a description and background.

I understand where you’re coming from. I used to think the goal was to be colorblind, but I’ve come to realize that I don’t think that’s the way I should think. One of things that makes our species so wonderful is the diversity of race and culture we have, especially where I live in the USA. I personally think the world and life in general would be very bland if everyone was the same. I now believe that it all starts with respect, love, and fairness toward one another as human beings. If we could achieve that, all injustice could be wiped out and the only thing left to do would be to enjoy and celebrate our diversity as the positive benefit that it is to our global community. I know it sounds idealistic and maybe even naive to some, but we must have goals to work towards. With few exceptions, our species has improved in almost every area with each passing decade and century. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to think that we will heal ourselves and create a world where justice is the norm and where injustice is a relatively rare and intolerable aberration against society as well as individuals. I think we are definitely moving in that direction.

There is a strong demonic influence in this world for such an undercurrent of hate to exist. Sometimes a spiritual person much retreat to their spiritual paradise to get a break from the onslaught of negativity...
One of my favorite songs ever! Fantastic, they don't make music like this any more!

Dude babies are born crying what are u talking about? The moment they are born they are in pain. They're crying their ass out and then get smacked on the ass. That's everyone's start in life. I don't know maybe its like symbolic that we all will suffer in life. And giving birth to a person is very painful in itself. Life is pain. If anyone told you anything else, they are trying to sell u something. We are trying to stay alive but the universe wants us dead anyway. That's why we die. It's the fate and destiny of all living beings. Pain exists because death exists. If we were not to die what would even bother us? ...idk what else to type lol

Jesus only 7 seconds? That ain’t long. Babies pick up on feelings from the mother and noises during pregnancy too, which can affect them after birth I believe. Edit :Ok I misread this slightly, meaning maybe the first positive 7 seconds do not come straight away. Interesting nonetheless
