Well... I didn't forget lures. I purposely didn't pack them because I was going to bring a lot of bait and some big ones too. Then I forgot to grab the bait out of the freezer when I left home LOL. Let's go get some.

Hi, your videos are always very informative. I’m new to fishing along the coast. I have a kayak and would like to get out there soon. Where should I go if I want to target halibut with the option to also catch linqcod? Monterey, Half Moon Bay, Sonoma, or Santa Cruz?

Thanks. You can catch halibut and ling in Monterey, Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, Pacifica but Sonoma and Mendocino is for Rockfish mostly. Get out there and enjoy the big blue.

Was slow for me as well that day! I'm curious... you mentioned it's not great when the water is clear. I didn't know that! I always thought Lings and RF are sight-feeders so I would have thought clear water would be a good thing? Do they get spooked by too much sunlight or something?

I don't know how exactly clear water affects them but clear water slows down the bite for most of the species if not all in NorCal Saltwater.
Might be a dumb question but do you not have to worry about sharks eating your catch? Over here in Hawaii sharks would be all over anything dangling in the water.

Not a dumb question. I only leave it in the water for a few mins to bleed them. Sea lions are more likely to steal the fish than the shark in California coast but it can happen. We only have GWS to worry about here and they are not very aggressive like Hawaiian sharks.
I have a question ❔ I have a cayack, at what depth can a lincad be captured in order to be legit and what is the limit? I fished in Monterrey once I saw you there fishing I'm new to cayack fishing

I think you are asking about the 20 fathom regulation. It's more of the 20 fathom line dfg drew up rather than the actually depth. Check out the links below. There is a possibility but I'm more worried about sea lions stealing my fish. I only leave the fish in the water for a short time just to bleed it. Lingcod don't have swim bladder like rockfish do so they don't suffer from barotrauma.

Haha, so many people ask me that. In NorCal, I don't worry too much. GSW sharks are not known to attack kayakers.
Shoot if I knew you were out there with no gear we would have hooked you up we were the first group of young guys waiting to launch

I dearly call them filthy. They are filthy delicious not "dirty." They are one of my favorite species. Filthy is affectionate pet name 😉
