Back to Basics: Mesh Deform Modifier
Фильм және анимация
The mesh deform modifier is a lot like the lattice modifier except you can have a lot more control! Follow along as we look over how to use this modifier

There were seven videos recommended before this on the google search, but your name was the eighth and it's definitely the one I'll always click first for blender tutorials!

You are too kind 🙂
One of the best tutorials I've ever seen on here! Thanks a million and best of luck to you and your 3d animation endeavors!
An extraordinarily good tutorial, I love the way you explain and that you make the mistakes that a beginner makes and also tell us how to solve it in the video.

Translated with google translate, sorry if it sounds weird.
Love the trick with the secondary mesh , no other tut discusses this.

Yeah it can kind of fly under the radar.
It would be nice if you gave details as to what you were doing at 0:42 and had the keys you were using shown in the viewport...oh well
Thanks alot! this one actually made fix an issue i was having with a charachter/several ones there clothing in Daz3D. (Due tot hem being quite busty) There clothing wouldnt really fit all to well, now i can fix that!
Good overview, thnaks!
I'm using Blender for 3 years now, and I never knew it is possible to stack meshes in a deformer cage o.o Thanks a lot for this Info :) Sometimes you need to step back to go forward :D
really well explained 👍

Aww thanks 😊
Thanks for the quick and concise video! 👍 In terms of performance, is there a difference between the lattice and the mesh deformer with the same point and precision count?
clean simple nice. Thanks :)

Huge thanx for the guide! :D How would you export this into an animated FBX, in case you create an animation using this method?
exelent.
Thank you

So of course when I try this, the Bind (which the documentation says can take a long time) is almost instant, yet editing the mesh cage doesn't move the object with the modifier on it... and no error messages or warnings... sigh!
great tutorial very clear. A query when I apply the mesh deform modifier the original object returns to its original shape and the deformation disappears. How can I apply it?
I have a cartoon character head that is deformed with standard shape keys (no lattice deform), to sing along with lyrics, but I also want the eyes to move, they are a separate mesh. anyway to get them to deform based on the shaped keys I have for the head?
But I can not apply the mesh deform, any ways?
Very useful thanks! But how can I add keyframes to animate my object with this modifier? I really need it please

Since it is a mesh and not a rig, you can not exactly key its deformations. What you could try is creating shape keys and key those, or create a rig for the "proxy" mesh and animate that
Mmmmm. Gives me some ideas.

Super new to blender, how did you do 0:42 ? the making of new mesh
@georgiosdoumas2446

He basically was in Object Mode (not Edit mode) and Added a new Mesh > Cube , and then started transforming that cube (but first he has clicked the buttons Toggle X-Ray , and the button Wireframe , you can find those buttons on the top right of your ViewPort Editor , they are visible from 0:42 until 1:00)
The tutorial is really nice, but I have a question :) Can I export the mesh with the cage and the modifier to Unity? I need to do this for an armor. If yes, is there anything special to be done? I searched everywhere and I couldn't find an answer to this. Thanks!

For that I think you would need to apply the modifier to bake it into the mesh. Then import into Unity.

@@JohnnyMatthews Is there a way to apply the modifier to each frame? So that the entire transform process is baked into the mesh
Although I'm not new to 3D, I'm new to Blender. So, my question is: Does it work in a previously animated character? I want to create a cartoony deformation in my character after animating it. Deformations work in already animated characters in 3ds Max, but I'm not sure if it works the same way in Blender.

I don't know yet because I've only just discovered this modifier, but in my opinion and after using Blender for 2 years, I would say. Yes? Why not? :D
2200+ hrs on blender without unknowing this and using lattice modifier instead 💀
