It makes sense, biologically, but it's still amazing to see. It's also so touching to see how much the O-Sisters love each other!

Those that are worried about care. Otters are a community family unit. extended family takes care of each other. That in combination with loutre staff should be one hell of a family 😀

Exactly! Plus, this species of otters are endangered, every litter is a good thing. Loutre mama is always careful with their health and well being.

I'm just glad Otsuyu is ok and staying strong. 5 is alot and very different compared to cats giving birth but I am glad her and the new borns are ok and wish them the healthiest life.

Otsuyu, you are a multitasking wonder! You successfully delivered 5 otter pups caring for them all while in labor! And Odashi is the best sister. She cares so much about Otsuyu's health during delivery.

Maybe Loutre will be able to set up a room so that Oage is in the next room over and can watch everything that is going on so that he realizes that those are his children etc. I would hope something like that could be done for Oage and all of the otter family. It ma help him take on a more masculine adult fatherly role too, and help him and Odashi get a long maybe... that might be hoping for too much I guess. Though, it might work... they are smart creatures. Frankly, if I were Odashi, I would be greatful for not having to go through that process of child bearing and being able to be such a close part of all their lives by being a surrogate mother as she has been.

@@turtium In the animal kingdom, with the exception of penguins and seahorses, most males aren't involved with their offspring. Some will even kill them.

I have heard that some of the larger type of otters can kill siblings and babies and also sea otters... I wonder if there have been recorded incidents of the special small clawed asian otters doing that too. Sad, if so. Upsetting too. Yes.🦦

That's what I was thinking, too. She's only four years old but has given birth three times. Since Tororo is only 7 months old, that would mean Otsuyu was bred on her first heat after giving birth to him. Her little body needs time to recover. As much as I love these otters and I'm sure they're being well taken care of, Otsuyu definitely needs a break and probably should not be bred anymore. Just my opinion.

She does need a break -- the gap between Tororo and these 5 was really short With 8 pups (hopefully all healthy), maybe it's finally time to neuter Oage -- easier & cheaper than spaying Otsuyu… And no, Otsuyu won't be knocked up by another male… this species is monogamous and usually pair for life

@@Tam_Eiki You act like Otsuyu has zero agency in this and Loutre-mama decides when Otsuyu & Oage breed. That's not how this works at all. Literally the only thing you're right on besides Otsuyu needing a break is that Oage managed to knock up his mate on her first post-Tororo heat cycle -- that was simply good/bad luck.

Otsuyu is a pro at giving birth to amazing little wonders! I know it meant everything having her Mom Loutre with her every step of the way. Each one is beautiful like their Mom, Dad, amd Auntie. Good job Otsuyu! How wonderful with both auntie Odashi and Mama Loutre to support the birth! And looked to me like that little girl with funny looking nose has a cleft lip, hope it's a mild case if i'm correct, then there shouldn't be much issues with the baby.

I hope we can see a film on Bob and Namida as well. Just them together. A different film on Wasabi... and, maybe another on Komugi and what he is up to these days. Smiles. I was imagining this group of pups going out in a few months to the river together learning all about the wonders of the outdoors with Odashi and Tororo to teach them. Maybe even teach Otsuyu too as she likely might be up for something new outdoors by now? If she was no longer afraid or in discomfort about outside, that could be really fun to have her along to watch the young ones grow up with new fun surroundings.

They are so adorable. I just want to hold them and poop their little cute noses. If you put molasses in her water bottle it helps with contractions in otters. I learned this while working in the Oakland Zoo as a Zoo keeper.

Yah, Oaga has been really keeping Otsuyu comfortable and un-anxious. Way to go husband Oaga and Momma Otsuyu. And, of course all the planning the Loutre must be doing to make all this even possible. Getting the right mates for each otter has got to be a difficult job.

I wanted to hug Otsuyu so badly. I'm glad she and her babies are safe!
