I just want to thank you for sharing this gentle technique. I could move my fry without any upheaval to speak of. Then I moved some of my adults the same way, and what an improvement! Your method saved all that heart-wrenching thrashing that goes on when I lift a netted fish out of the water. I’m positive it saved them no end of stress. Thanks again!

Hi Lucas. I started using a krill net, which is the same type net you're using. It just has a much smaller hole in the net fiber, which doesn't allow the fry to get sucked through. Also, it costs the same as a regular net. Saves an extra step (using the tiny cup to collect them twice) and is definitely less stressful to the fry. Not to mention all the time saved. LFS told me about it a few months ago, of course to sell me a net, but it really works on all my fry, even the tiniest. Thanks for the video!

Awesome video! Those fry are teeny, like smaller than guppy fry lol hope they liked their new awesome home,I say liked cause this videos around 2yrs old so they probably got moved into a bigger tank, still awesome to watch. I usually gather the fry into the middle of the bottom of the net too, then (making sure my hands wet with tank water) I kinda scoop them into my palm while bunching the net a way above them to stop any fishy flip-outs ending in carpet surfing, then I put my hand with them inside in the net into the water then release the bunched net for the fry to swim out. I love the paper cup idea, never thought about using them before. Amazing tank room 😍 I’d live in a tank room like that! But let’s be honest, the real star of this video is adorable Wesley! I mean those curls tho 😍 I’d defo watch wesleys world,he’s such an intelligent kid,you guys must be so proud,he’s just too cute! Thankyou for this, my guppies have have just had fry. I always leave the fry in the tank with the adults. Because they have lots of hiding places. Plus the adults don’t eat them. One gave birth yesterday, some are still hiding. But a lot of them are out swimming around the adults lol. But I’m getting a new tank, so I’m going to have to catch them to put them in their new tank. But I was worried about hurting them.

I’m gonna attempt catching my 26 odd (or maybe more) peacock Gudgeon fry out of their net which is held with in the parents 21 litre tank as it def needs a clean out. I, wanting to clean the parents tank itself including gravel etc but also they fry net held within that tank floating g in the top on right side of tank. The fry net had some debris at the bottom and on pebbles weighing it down from floating up too high. I’m assuming best way is to remove the 6 day old fry to clean the net out then simply place back into the nice clean fry net . Siphoning out the main tank isn’t a problem as the parents are large and avoid the tube. But hose fry, man they are teeny weeny lil thangs. I’ll have to use a tiny scooping kitchen measuring cup I think as the net area itself is problem only 5 inches round and 5 deep. Not much room to manoeuvre in the fry net. Thanks for the vid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers ...Lisa from Perth Western Australia

If you’d slip a bowl into the tank and then under the net the fry are in, then move both bowl and net to the new tank, you could avoid the second transfer to the cup.

Hey Brother, how does it feel to be literally the only reason that my current daydream tank is stocked mainly with Rainbows? lol Just a quick question though; How would I keep different kinds of rainbows together without gettin' mixed up fry? So far all I can think of is keeping separate tanks for each kind to breed 'em and then just take out the best males for the show tank. Thanks for the awesome father-son aquarium videos!

The story is about The Rainbow Fish, a fish with shiny, multi-coloured scales. He has blue, green, purple, and pink scales. Interspersed with these colorful scales are shiny, holographic scales which are his favorites. The other fish from his gang also have scales, but only scales matching to their real colors. However, they wish that they had shiny silver scales like the Rainbow Fish. One day, a small blue fish (wishing he could have shiny silver scales) asks the Rainbow Fish if he could have one of his shiny silver scales. The Rainbow Fish refuses in a very rude manner. The small blue fish tells all the other fish that The Rainbow Fish was being rude, and as a result, the other fish do not want to play with him any more. His only remaining friend, the starfish, tells him to go visit the wise octopus for advice. When he goes to the cave where the wise octopus lives, he sees the octopus, who says that she has been waiting for him. She explains that the waves have told her his story. Then, she gives The Rainbow Fish her advice: He must share his scales with the other fish. She continues that he might no longer be the most beautiful fish after that, but he will discover how to be happy. The Rainbow Fish says that he cannot share his favorite scales, and the wise octopus disappears in a cloud of ink. When he encounters the little blue fish for a second time, The Rainbow Fish shares one of his precious silver scales and sees the little fish's joy. With that one shiny scale gone, he immediately feels much better. Very soon, the Rainbow Fish is surrounded by the other fish requesting scales and he shares one of his shiny silver scales with the each of them. Soon, everyone in the ocean, has one shiny scale, including The Rainbow Fish. The Rainbow Fish is finally happy even though he only had one shiny scale left.

I didn't even know my fish was pregnant so I saw babies but they have color now and swim at bottom. Should I take them out still??

Are they guppies? If so you dont always have to pull them. Just make sure the babies have hiding spots and you feed the adults well. For more guaranteed success I would pull them if you have the possibility but if it seems safe for them I wouldnt bother.

    Do you have to acclimate?

Depends on any water differences. Mostly with temp. Unless transitioned from super soft water to super hard water. Anything else in between is good to go.

Yes but platy fry are fairly big when they are born so I usually would just scoop them out.

Ugh. Should have released this video yesterday. Spent an hour trying to catch a measly 7 Platy fry from the 40gallon to transfer then to the 20gallon.
