I like the setup for guppy fry. I've done the outside tub guppy project with great success... have plenty of young fry that i will need to bring inside. Your setup and success puts me at ease of bringing the younger fry inside and raising them up outside of the tanks

I always keep my used sponge filters for emergency tanks at this point. Lol. In a week I scooped out close to 30 fry from my mini pond. There’s more down there I’m sure… 14 females to 6 males. Absolutely this was on purpose 😊.. this is what catapulted me into the hobby. Seeing the baby fry 😊

Thank you! I am hating the Facebook groups! There's so many keyboard "professionals" I don't know what to believe. And having sudden baby fry I wasn't expecting, I feel like I need a Neo natal ward at the Chicago Shedd aquarium to have a chance to keep them alive or DCFS would need to be called. I felt like it didn't need to be this difficult. Tonight my babies are going to be moved in a empty 1.5 gallon I had sitting there until they get bigger.

My tap water has 1ppm of ammonia which is fine because it just gets absorbed when changing water on my cycled tanks but I would be worried to just put it into a container and walk away. The last tank I set up I used a seeded filter and it took a week to get the ammonia down and then another week to lose the nitrates but I added prime everyday during that time.

I would probably use like 25% of the main tank water into some container and if they are slow growing fish you can use some filter with purigen I suppose. Change water a tiny bit if TDS reading is getting out of their optimal range. Maybe I m too relaxed about it too lol... but my happiest shrimp are the ones living in a glass vase by the window with just moss and algae on all the sides and 2" of 1/4" lava rock gravel, no flow, no airstone, and I never ever feed them.

I bough some Heterandria Formosa. Have you any experience with them and their fry? It looks like my HF swims by themselves and explore the tank looking for food. Only sometimes they swim together. And they are nothing like any other fish I kept when it comes for food. All other fish go crazy for food when I feed them. My HF they hardly ever comes for the food hard like other fish, they just nip at the crushed flake food and artemia or brine shrimp and nip at the biofilm on leaves and algae etc They also seems like a peaceful but shy fish

Yes, use a heater unless you keep your home furnace very high. I don't have to set my fry tank heater high at all... For Polar Blues 74 degrees to 82 should be fine, but I'd confirm to be safe with a search online. I'd try matching tank temps if moving from one environment to the next.

At about what age do you move fry from the small containers to the shoe box? I have week old mutt guppy fry in a 1 gallon tub of guppy grass, and they now understand that my shadow means a smidge of powdered flake food will magically appear.

I live in the North of Canada and I am wondering if using a small submersible heater is a problem on these shoe box type fry tanks? The climate is such that I need to have heaters in all my tanks. When I see these Videos on KZread I am assuming most of you live in climates where the room temperature is good enough. Any thoughts or recommendations on this?

Hi! Do the fry need to be free-swimming before you move them to a separate tank? Right now they have tales but they are sticking to the leaf, and I have their new tank ready. I just don't know when I should move them.

tried to email you but didnt work so....Help, just got 6 of these and they are very small half inch, so i was nervous to put them in my 29 gallon tank with 2 fancy guppies,2 odessa barbs,zebra. so i put in a 6x8 breeder tank and put them in there. Is this ok to do or should i set up a 10 gallon grow out tank ? or even follow your tube tank method ? thanks so much

A good rule of thumb is, if a fish will fit in another fishes mouth, it will end up there.

I got a pregnant guppy at the hardware store (it was not in a good place ) but I have a fry take set up in just a spare fish bowl do I need a heater?

Depends on ambient temp. Guppies can survive with water temps in the upper 60’s no problem as long as they are healthy.

I don't think, feeding baby fish all the time, is even healthy. They are very small, and eat very little. Most of my food gets eaten by the snails, wich is somewhat good, because, it keeps the water from spoiling. Because they eat so little, they can go some time without being fed. They will clean up the leftovers, infusoria, biofilm, bacteria, etc wich is also good for the water quality. I lost fish, as a beginner, because of overfeeding. Now, i know...
