    Good take. I bought this immediately because I love all the shorts, bells, electric guitar and whatnot - but even though the string longs are gorgeous the sucking effect just makes them so hard to use. I thought the release bar was bugged to be non functional until I tested it thoroughly and dry. All they'd had to do was make those tails optionally longer and this bundle would be perfect.

    It's weird, but Daniel's taste and kind of music is the almost exact opposite of what I do, and he usually dislikes my favourite parts of most libraries (I want this library mainly for the drums), yet he is always the one who makes me go. "Ohhh, This is so much more useful that I had imagined", because he still works works in sort of the same way I do. Maybe it's because we're both singers?

    Genuine question - how did you get to be so unbelievably fast at this? (the manual input sketching you do on the classical bit, just tons and tons of practice?) I ask because I'm a theatre composer and I've contemplated trying film composing (I already use sample libraries and a DAW for demos as it happens) but I'm well aware that deadlines seem far tighter in film than theatre and the speed you compose at is unbelievable tbh, is this normal of film composers (from years of working to that tight deadline) or are you abnormally fast compared with others?! (Hope you dont mind me asking! a genuine question as the speed that film composers seem to work at puts me off a little making that transition as Im not sure my brain is wired that way?)

    Daniel is absolutely right. The sucking effect! Makes me laugh. I have been able to adjust, but it takes a bit of doing. Fortunately I can play an instrument, so that helps to get to it quicker. I usually use another library if it's to laborius..Recently started to use Audio Imperia stuff..

    I am pretty sure these libraries are meant to be programmed, and not played live or like a synth. They do not have ADSR modulation because you are supposed to program ADSR by automating dynamics and expression. If you had ADSR defined like a synth, the notes would fade in and out always in the same way. But this does not happen when an orchestra plays for real. Every time the attack and the release are slightly different and the Spitfire libraries allow you to have control on attack and release (and everything in between) for every single note. You just need to program dynamics and expression by automating them in your DAW.

  • @mybiggrin

    @@DJLA I think the reason for that is that realistically, strings will stop when you stop bowing. The key press triggers the bow. Spitfire recommends that you manipulate the expression and such to descend before you stop pressing a key. You have to program what you're trying to emulate. I get that it's not the best method for "keyboard strings", but it's pretty great once you draw in the relevant data. If the strings hung on it would sound very synthy.

    @@mybiggrin True but in a full room the sound rings out a little bit. Pretty much every other lib also has longer tails on the release. What's the point in having the user ride the mod wheel down every time, instead of just leaving it by default. Even if it's not fully "realistic" it does sound much better. Plus you can always trim release tails, you can't make them longer. So why not record them long and just let the user determine how much sucking they want?

  • @mybiggrin

    @mybiggrin

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@-Meric- It was recorded in a smaller room. Your comment kind of insinuates that it sounds artificial... which is doesn't at all. If you want more room, pump up the room mics. The point in having the user ride the mod wheel is that you have varying degrees of expression. This is why their libraries are indisputably real.

    At last somebody who knows how to showcase strings. Most demos out there make them sound awful. They actually sound pretty warm and detailed, but I don't know why they decided to record them with hardly any vib.. makes them very niche to use. A bit more vibrato would be made them much lovelier in my opinion. Still, you brought those strings to life! And omg, about the 'sucking effect', I can't believe somebody else picked up on that. I hate it... I cant find a way to add more tail, no matter what. The only way to mitigate it is to make full use of the dynamics and expression and gradually bring them down before you release the keys, so that it doesn't sound so abrupt. But it still kinda sounds abrupt..
