I'm already doing 200 sit ups a day and subsisting on a diet that would starve a squirrel so I'll look perfect when I dawn my full body paint and Na'vi warriors regalia when I got to see this. This is our "The Northman". I tried genetically altering my daschshund to have six legs, it didn't work out unfortunately. But he's happy with his new opposable thumbs, which means he can open his own canned food now. So not a total waste of time.

I'm predicting that when Avatar 2 comes out, there will be right-wing backlash claiming that this is supporting trans-humanism (which as you know is the right's deepest darkest fear). But further, not only will we find that as people want to enter Avatar VR, that actual transhumanist desires take root. Still, Cameron is our hero in this tale because he is after all trying to teach us to become elves, rather than orcs. He's making elves folks.

Americans need to stop putting emphasis on character development and instead focus more on the story narrative. The Avatar story is supposed to send a message about the time and place America was in after 9 / 11 and the Iraq War. One thing I've noticed as a filthy canuck is that Canadian films tend to put a lot more emphasis on storylines over individual character development, whereas American films tend to emphasize character development over story narrative, maybe it has something to do with America's extremely individualistic culture, idk, just my two cents.

Everybody that calls this a white savior movie has no understanding of the meaning of that word. You are all dullards or you’re Twitter professionals that believe blockbuster movies can have music in them only 10 people in the world have ever listened to. Your knowledge of obscure forms of human culture does not help anyone understand there role to play in not letting what we as a human race have created thus far to, fall into ultimate climate demise, it just makes you look like a giant, pointless nerd. James Cameron understood that perfectly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the idea of a white savior narrative that the white person converts all the heathen savages to the superior white culture? Isn't something like Avatar or Last Samurai actually the opposite, where the white guy is so impressed by the foreign culture that he embraces it and abandons his former white guy identity? Like, _Japanese_ people aren't offended by Last Samurai (or at least, they criticize the romanticized portrayal of samurai culture, not the Tom Cruise character).

The savior *began* as a religious missionary thing and then became secularized into a liberal project of spreading western notions of freedom, democracy, tolerance, etcetera. So pretty much any movie where the white character is the one teaching the local people how to best fight against their own enemy/solve their own conflict/understand their own culture. Avatar is sick. Personally I like it cause James Cameron and George Lucas are the only two directors with the kind of “fuck you” money to make whatever weird ass 200 million dollar movies they want without any studio telling them what to do. No other filmmaker is getting to do the hair sex thing you mentioned cause the studio would axe it. No blockbuster can be weird anymore. It’s all just corporate slop without any vision directed by sitcom tv directors. Cameron does whatever the fuck he wants, for better or worse, but regardlessly it makes his movies a million times more interesting. I go to the movies to see what’s going on in the head of the director, and most big budget movies won’t offer you that. Also I personally think it’s sick that the highest grossing movie of all time features James Cameron’s CGI deviant art creations slaughtering the US military in its climax. How is the world not a better place because of that?

James Cameron is a beast, but in terms organizational scale, all the Avatar sequels combined pale in comparison to Tesla or SpaceX. For comparison the sequels represent about $1 billion in spending over many years, with total employment of probably a couple hundred. Tesla capital expenditures in 2021 were $8 billion, operating expenses were $47 billion, and the head count is now over 100,000. So annualized, the Avatar project is less than 1/200th the size of the Tesla project. Re what has Musk ever done that’s good, or whatever: in 2021 Tesla made just under 1 million electric cars. Presumably, if Tesla didn’t exist, something like 950,000 of those would instead be burning fossil fuel today, and for the next 20 years. Which seems pretty bad. This year Tesla’s going to sell around 1.5 million cars. It seems reasonable to ask which historical figures have positively affected the environment more? I submit there aren’t many, and I would speculate that by the time he dies there won’t be any.

And being unable to do that, as it’s a ludicrous notion, I’d suggest you consider that we aren’t talking about just 1 million cars-it’s 1 million cars last year, and 50% more cars per year for the rest of the decade, and it’ll ultimately be ~50 million cars per year if other car companies fail to step up, and 20-30 years after that the entire fleet will be electric.
