Avatar (Extended) - Caravan of Garbage

Ойын-сауық

Avatar 2: The Way Of Water is in the process of blowing the doors off your local cinemaplex, but before we revisit the world of Pandora lets all revisit the world of Pandora but in 2009. With huge advancements in motion capture, virtual environments and CGI Avatar remains the literal biggest movie of all time. And now we see whether or not we believe it holds up for us in our final Caravan Of Garbage review for the year. Thank you for all the support in 2022.

Honestly the idea that the tree likes Jake Sully because his mind is easily manipulated and would fight for the planet is not that crazy of a theory and fits right in with the scientific magic theme.

It's all my fault Avatar made so much money, I was homeless in Florida at the time it was in theaters so I used to buy tickets to the film so I could have a safe cool place to sleep for a few hours. I'm so sorry I probably bought 15 tickets.

Wasn't able to hide in bathroom & just reuse the 1 ticket so could stay all day? Assuming couldn't sneak in full stop?

@@apex2000 this was over months, but yes I did catch two naps from time to time, I also inflated the box office for inglorious basterds as well. But I don't feel so bad about that one. I never thought James Cameron would be allowed to make another one, let alone shoot sequels back to back. Lol

For those of us aspiring to be homeless in Florida, would you recommend any particular theater?

@@shwnshts9469 I would go there and a Booksamillion, right next to the theater but they would ask me to leave if I fell asleep. But I read a bunch of books and graphic novels during that time.

It probably helps that I saw this movie when I was 9 at my grandfathers house, and mostly just remembered the action scenes. I think the technical aspects, action, and Zoe Saldana's performance are definitely the highlights of this movie

Is that what your 9yr old self said after watching it on your grandfather's television? "I for one appreciated the technical aspects," said future liar. jk.

Interesting trivia. The first draft had the story focusing on the Navi learning agriculture. Which is why the title was Blue Harvest, which funny enough was the same working title as the first Star Wars movie.

The setting of Avatar is quite similar to the novel Under the Green Star by Lin Carter, a sort of pastiche of A Princess of Mars.

I believe the corporation actually thought it would cost less to risk that tech in the hands of a jarhead. Since they need to create another avatar and hire another guy. The weird thing is what is his brother's work that some jarhead can do it without training.

Definitely agree with James. They can have the best visuals or effects ever made, but it doesn’t matter if the story isn’t interesting. It’s similar to the Star Wars prequels. So much focus on effects and technology, with much less on story and characters

For next year's Caravan of Garbage, you guys should do the movie Trading Places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. It does take place in New Years Eve. Could be a fun watch!

This may or may not have something to do with Matt Damon declining the role, but I’ve heard a pretty compelling argument that Jake Sully being a total dip-shit is kinda the point of his character arc. His total ignorance of the Na’vi planet and their customs is absolutely hit or miss gambling and textbook horniness (James Cameron was fairly adamant they needed to have breasts) mistaken for divine intervention. So literally the only thing he has to offer these people is his knowledge of the evil empire… cause probably the most interesting thing about Jake Sully (and the wider fictional universe of Avatar for that matter), is analyzing his service record.

Am i dumb for only now realizing the 3d was so damn good because the film likely super imposed its own layer of black bars creating the illusion of 3d frame breaks not included in any 2d footage?

I don't think it's the case that anyone can jump on the dragons back and bond with the dragon. The God Ewya literally exists in this universe. And Jake Sully is like a Moses character, like the Jewish God chose someone of another culture (an Egyptian prince) as their chosen warrior, and Ewya essentially allows the bond between Jake and the dragon. Jake spends a lot of the movie recieving a spiritual awakening, that Ewya is real. Him jumping on it's the back is a metaphorical leap of faith. The tribe accepts him back because they recognise him as a messenger from God.

I wish they took out the condition of earth being poor from the movie it frames it differently. It would of been better if they said humanity was in a golden age and expanding that would be better and closer to what the film makers are going for.

Only seen this twice, once in theaters and once at home....it's a visual marvel...in the theater. At home with out the 3d...meh. The story is extremely weak (and suffers from white saviorism) People went and saw it multiple times in theaters because of the 3d not because the story was so moving. It's Cameron at his best in the directors chair, but at his worst in the writing department. Maybe if he focused on characters and character development instead of focusing on world building over plot I could give a damn...but I just can't

As soon as I heard his inspiration was literally pocahontas & then hearing that this movie is plagiarized script of it, almost nothing altered at all other than setting, I was immediately out. And I'm so glad I've never seen it. No true cinephile ever brings up this movie when discussing films. People saw it because of the amazing 3D visuals st the time & then people quickly forgot about 3D. A lasting great film has to have compelling story to compliment the visuals. This movie might as well have been a Micheal Bay movie. Enjoy the pretty light, eat your pop corn, forget about the movie upon leaving the theater. Sorry rant over, don't support avatar 2 so we don't have to deal with a 3rd one.
