The reason that the CGI looks so good is because they actually gave the visual effects artists enough time to finish their work and make sure it looks beautiful unlike Marvel where they crunch and work their artists to death. Crazy how when you give them more time, they create a better product. Mind-blowing stuff right there.

I think what you described about spider is the entire point of his character, sometimes he helps the Na'vi and sometimes he helps the military goons, his whole character is that he doesn't know what he wants, in reality he is human but he was raised by the Na'vi, he feels conflicted inside himself on what he wants to do and who his allegiance is towards. More or less Spider didn't seem to be fully accepted as an equal either. Both sides left him feeling kinda lonely at some point, but of course the goons were way worse so he didn't choose to be with them. And then the fact he's so open ended and young, I think later his role could be important or at least finalized on a side as he fully becomes an adult.
@johngrimm2074
Жыл бұрын
@@aydenulery9562 I mean star wars, ain't an original idea either, if you strip away the futuristic space fantasy theme. The same goes for Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings, strip aways the fantasy magic and the bare bones story ain't that original. It's the combination of both the "copied" story as well as the genre change that makes the whole. Avatar, if striped of the whole space aliens thing, is just man goes to foreign land and interacts with locals and started doubting the people he had sailed/travelled with to get to foreign land. If you add the fact that the foreign land is actually so fucking foreign that everything is so fucking weird and has different weights in their effect and the locals/natives that are actually aliens that have so much difference in biology that it's hard to understand them, then you have a different story altogether.
@eoinmcorks

@@johngrimm2074 Yeah, save the weird forest people. What you're describing is the setting in which the plot takes place, not the actual plot. Somewhat disagree. Things like art direction and cinematography matter a lot, and it's absolutely spot on in this film. And the director being in touch with how the VFX work within the film is also important. The rushed corporate garbage we get from a lot of blockbusters is certainly making films look worse and horribly generic, but I think Cameron is a big reason why the visuals are so great. Also, the budget in this movie is utterly insane and it has a hugely protracted production timeline. I do wish they could give artists more time and freedom, but not every movie is going to get the privlidge of a $400 million budget and a 13 year production schedule.

I thought the same about Spider as a character but my wife had an interesting take. Basically, Spider is torn between two worlds. He is human so he knows and sees he is not a true Na'vi, despite being raised with them and the movie even makes a point to say that Neytiri didn't accept him as one of them. Then you introduce his father and he feels drawn to him because he's an outcast and the Colonel made him feel like he belonged. Then they showed his internal struggle when he helped his Dad/Colonel track Jake but was hurt and horrified at the burning of the sea villages.

Nobody’s going to see this but one of my favorite things about the Avatar is the physical differences between the water Na’vi and the forest Na’vi. The water Na’vi have bigger, stronger tails, wider forearms, and a lighter “aqua” complexion that gives them more camouflage in the sea. It shows how evolution would affect the Na’vi over time in different environments. The Na’vi are all the same in their location. And that makes sense. We don’t have random white or green Na’vi chilling with the water Na’vi. I’m looking at you Rings of Power. Way of water touches on how colonizers are coming from a land that is dying to start a new home for their families, whilst the same time the indigenous having to fight for their own home and families. The dualities of the two fathers. Quaritch's rebirth. Sons who are rebellious. Pandora being a world where everyone is literally living in harmony and connected to nature vs the humans. Idk alot of great themes and small details. Loved the how James Cameron captured the child like fascination with nature and water. Loved the small detail of how the whales slap the water with their little fin to call one another. I believe the substance is very much there. My only two gripes with the movie are that: •Humans are never portrayed as a genuine threat. They didnt really focus on the N'avi vs humans in this film their probably saving it for the next one, Im also pretty sure the humans can wipe them off the surface of the planet if they wanted to, all they need to do is burn the entire forest down till its nothing but glass and cinder like the start of the film but on the larger scale since they clearly don't care about the environment that much. One weird thing I did noticed was wtf happened to the rest of the N'avi during the final fight? they clearly won the battle but they all disappeared during the eclipse and left sully and his family to fight the remaining humans.

I totally agree with this review, I also came into watching Avatar: the way of water with modest expectations and found it really engaging and entertaining. Honestly I think that the movie is solid and a lot of the characters have pretty realistic personalities and motivations. I think that spider is a weird character but I also do get this sense that he's internally dealing with a lot of inner turmoil because of how he ended up on pandora and like who he is related to and thats what makes him flip-flop alot. which is actually very realistic for what is presumably a 14-16yr old human boy with a lot of emotional baggage. I also think that Jake Sully's character has like matured very naturally which explains his behavior. Also one of his sons does have a natural tendency of getting himself and all his siblings into dangerous situations which definitely explains why Jake yells at him. Honestly theres like only one minor element in the later half of the movie that I felt was kind of mentioned off-handedly and definitely could have benefitted from being explained a little bit better. I'm not gonna spoil what it is, i'm guessing that its set-up for the future installments. Overall its a fun and enjoyable movie and y'all should definitely watch it when you get the chance.
For his interactions with his kids: I wish the next film explores how his relationship with his brother affected his relationship with his sons (being a "wheelchair-bound ex-marine" while his brother gets to go to another planet) and how he'll open up to his children after [REDACTED].

For me what makes this one so much better than the first one is the emotional connection you feel towards their family. In the first one you're just mostly awed by the groundbreaking CGI and visual effects but in this sequel "The Way of the Water" it connects much deeper on an emotional level. Watching felt as if I was a part of the family and felt the ups and downs they went through throughout the entirety of the movie. Yes, the storyline is simple (Which is what makes it work so well and is able to attract a global audience IMO) and the way they blend the incredible CGI (As expected from Jim Cameron) and the deeper tonality in this one is what sold me on this franchise. The messages behind the Ocean's vulnerability also hits home with our world today as most of the main Avatar themes do. It's another classic Cameron film. Highly recommend watching this movie especially if you enjoyed the first one! I really am enthusiastic for this Avatar Saga and can't wait to see it be concluded as its own story. Freed him from that interrogation device, approached him with understanding, took him along rather than keeping him in a cage, and even gave up his advantage so Neytiri would free Spider(obviously she was never gonna hurt him, but he thought she would). While tough, he did show some love to Spider and treated him almost like his son rather than a prisoner, so it makes sense why Spider would help him. Plus the fact that Spider never had a real father despite having an adoptive family, so I can see why he did it.
I went in with mild expectations aswell. Came out pleasantly surprised. Definitey worth a watch

Simplicity in a story isn't a bad thing it doesn't need to be way over the top to be a feel good story. Can't wait to see it.

Somewhere along the lines people began to think that if a story is simple, basic, clichéd, or they can predict it, that it means it's bad, which is not the case at all when the director is actually competent. And the Avatar movies are a visual feast, filled with immersion and spectacle, the story is just a backdrop for the world of pandora

its crazy because i hate 3d in basically all movies, hurts my eyes, makes me nauseous, doesnt usually add anything. like i never had a good experience aside from literally Avatar 1 . but this movie: 0 complains like those above. it was on another level. visually insane. the glowing plants and glowing fishes by themselves are already bonkers. im def. allegedly going back on some psychotropics
Just got out of the theater a few hours aago. I literally teared up so many times. It was so good.
This movie made me cry 3 times, while keeping me at the edge of the seat, throughout the whole movie. If you haven't watched it yet, go watch it in the cinemas, this movie is AMAZING on a big screen

I came close a few times. I can't entirely explain why but I definitely felt more of an emotional connection to the characters in this film than the first one, I was legitimately anxious when one of the Sullies were in danger.

I watch both films back to back and I feel like jake's journey makes sense especially with how jake doesn't have people like neytiri's parents to rebalance him and how he now has childeren like I'm not a father but Ik how it easy it is to fold when it comes to a parents child, I have seen how easily a father will forgo his morles and principles thinking that it's right for his family. I love the second film and it personally hit me hard
Avatar is extremely unique among movies in that it will probably hold up visually for decades, if not the entire 21st century, and you basically HAVE to have seen it in theatres to get the full experience.

@@DarkoFitCoach fucking crazy not gonna lie. The seamless changes of action on land into water is just beautiful it scratches something in your brain you’ve felt you haven’t seen in a movie in a long time maybe never.
