The way they structured Inspector Gadget made sense from a goofy Saturday morning cartoon perspective because if Inspector Gadget was competent and knew what was going on, there wouldn't me much conflict in most cases they could come up with. It would also probably only involve him as a competent cyborg detective doesn't need a child and dog to tag along. There would need to be specific situations that made him struggle that weren't just "oh I'll use that other gadget that solves this case". It's possible but it's a totally different kind of show. Because his niece and her dog are the protagonist characters who solve the case, Inspector Gadget is the Scooby Doo of the show. He's there to be a goofy mascot and sometimes accidentally help. The protagonists struggle is finding ways to solve the case, keep themselves and their bumbling cyborg uncle from getting caught, and using their knowledge of his gadgets and personality quirks to trick him or the bad guys into believing he's a super cop. It's an interesting way to tell the story of a character like inspector gadget without just being "look at his cool gadgets he used to win right away"

So, an AMERICAN exercises his freedom of speech and freedom to make a joke at the expense of a FORMER president (not something that is a unique happenstance when it comes to American sentimentality and senses of humor) and suddenly their entire world falls to shit. Tour cancelled, sponsorships dropped, apology forced. I don't know about anybody else, but that sounds a whole hell of a lot like something that would happen in China, not the US. But maybe I'm the only person who sees the writing on the wall...

@@OldManYellsAtClouds No, what I want is fairness. Since when has any comedian who made a joke about a president, standing or former, had that happen to them? I've heard people do entire stand-up routines on Clinton, Obama, and both Bushes, and I don't think anyone's ever gotten flattened over it. Hell, jokes at the expense of the president and the government is the bread-and-butter of late night comedy talk shows. But a single joke about Trump at a birthday party and you get utterly stomped? All right, so.... I'm gonna be the one to piss in the cornflakes. The Jedi were NEVER intended by George Lucas to be seen as incompetent or corrupt: that's just fans projecting onto the movies their own interpretations. And now people like Dave Filoni and Leslye Headland are in charge of making super important stories for the canon, all based on this huge misreading of the movies, and trust me, I've done my research into this. They go on and on about how they're trying to honor Lucas' vision.... but they don't understand it. Or worse, are putting on an act for PR purposes. The best encapsulation of this is that scene with the Senator guy. Who chews out the Jedi for trying to control emotions, calling it impossible and arrogant. And in interviews, Leslye was all like 'yep he's dead on right,' and lots of fans agree with him too. But.... that's not true at all. Jedi don't 'control emotions' to get rid of them. They practice emotional regulation. That's...... bad?????? Look, it's a very, very, very popular fan opinion of the prequels that the Jedi were self absorbed, arrogant and prideful, and concerned more with optics than actually doing good. It's because a lot of fans relate too much to Anakin and think he was treated unfairly by the Jedi, and so his fall must have been because they didn't coddle him. Seriously, it's a big thing in the fandom, the Anakin apologism. Lucas' intention was that the Jedi were truly good and they had moral authority to keep the peace, but the Clone Wars put them into a conundrum where they had no choice but to get involved in politics more, against their wishes, and they became pawns of Palpatine. And Anakin's fall was mainly due to his refusal to follow the Jedi rules, becoming entitled to power and being paranoid about losing people he loved (selfish attachment, which is forbidden for Jedi), and Palpatine grooming him from childhood. That's the prequels, as Lucas wrote them. But in the years since, fans dealt with their disappointment of those movies by inventing this take that 'the reason the Jedi aren't the cool good guys I imagined them like as a kid, is because they're just jerks! They're the real problem! They're all self righteous and if they just let Anakin get married like he wanted, it would have all turned out okay. They got what was coming to them!' More or less. So now modern SW media keeps hammering in this message that the Jedi Order was fundamentally broken and they caused their own downfall. And that Anakin just needed to be given the space to feel his emotions more, and he turned out so entitled and power mad because he didn't get enough emotional support from the 'cold' Jedi. It sounds very convincing on the surface, doesn't it? But Lucas has been extremely transparent about all of his intentions with writing Anakin's fall, and how it's really ultimately his fault, for making actively selfish choices, in defiance of the Buddhist-inspired teachings of the Jedi to not covet objects or people in your life, and to learn to keep your emotions in check. The thing is, I wouldn't mind this change, and it even IS a decent idea for how to evolve the franchise into more morally gray waters, but for one thing... Filoni has claimed this is all true to George's vision, and that this was always what George had in mind. He's gone on big speeches in documentaries and stuff about the 'ideas' behind the prequels, and claims it all came right from George. But what he's saying, is completely false. And contradicts written evidence of George's ideas. That is what honestly disgruntles me. That this huge change to the lore is being framed as 'George's master plan all along,' which is a giant lie. At least admit you're altering the story, either for dramatic license or to better fit modern sensibilities, what have you.... but don't put words into the original creator's mouth, long after he's given up all control over his baby. That's some fucked shit. If anyone doesn't believe me, I got the receipts, I will gladly show you the mountains of evidence for this disconnect, and the massive warping of Lucas' ideas.

I'm not super interested in seeing Hughie get assaulted. Being a man doesn't make it any less wrong) To me this season suffered from paralleling reality so closely. It's not a bad strategy, but we're already watching obviously evil people manipulate the masses in reality. The idea that opinions, subjective evaluations of media, can be credible is wild. They aren't scholars. They aren't responsible for engaging every element of criticism-- they aren't defending the show in an academic or deep-dive forum. That you or anyone chooses to spend time engaging with Star Wars criticism and dissecting what you deem to be worthy or unworthy is a hobby. A critic who watches a show, hears a middling amount of criticism, and discounts it isn't wrong. They aren't Star Wars hobbyists. They're giving a mildly engaged, median-viewer review while also doing comedy bits. You either agree or don't agree. It's not a matter of fact. Approaching Star Wars like it's academics isn't mandatory to talk about Star Wars.

Disney and SW have historically been in an unprecedented position to create generational, impactful, and innovative stories. Cinema is dying and Disney should be held accountable with their influence and capacity for incredible storytelling.

Regarding Longlegs and her boss, it could have been a bit of the 90's male bravado of " I'm in the FBI and high up the chain, there's no way this could happen to me." Plus he was dismissive of the more out there stuff and seemed more focused on what was actually tangible. That plus the failure of Lee to properly explain things due to the haze she was in, and the very little time after it was broken, led to the tragedy.
