Star Wars characters are all based on pre-existing archetypes, and they all have a narrow moral window because of it. That is why you get changes like Han not shooting first, because the archetype being used isn’t morally grey so it is the “wrong” character decision. Treating the Star Wars characters like the archetype themselves is goofy. Of course you are going to be able to match them up with characters from other things.

40:20 See that's my biggest issue with Snyder. Sure he can't really write good stories or characters on his own, but it's that anecdote that should bother people. I thought it was a cool idea in another movie/story, but I didn't get to do it, now I'll jam it into another story whether it fits or doesn't. He seems like a child playing with lego's and it's cool when a kid has an imagination and gets to create his own stories, but he's selling this to adults, specifically thinking about the guy that has sex with a space squid.

Someone should’ve told Zach that Star Wars didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. George was influenced by early 20th century Flash Gordon serials, Japanese Samurai films, greek epics and the politics of his time .instead of doing a Star Wars based on Star Wars, why not take George’s source pool to make something new.

It's true of so many great pieces of media. Final fantasy 9 is my favourite thing ever and it is in fact the culmination of the previous 8 titles in a sort of greatest hits for the creator to go out on. But it was my first video game so to me it will always feel original. I don't want ff9 2 or remake though, I want a team who cares about the series and make a game with the same tone as the series had up until 10. 10 didn't have the original team but it slapped so it can be done.

It was one production where he shot one story. You know, films are usually supposed to actually say something. Sure, they’re supposed to have good stories too, but the stories are good because they say something. Something about the human experience, conditions of life, existential thought of the universe around them, politics of the time - something. Rebel Moon is what happens when you ask the type of person who prefers the action over the philosophy in the Matrix films, to make their own Star Wars. There is no substance, no message, no thought to leave you on. You’re just supposed to point at the slow motion action with your jaw dropped like you’re some Wojack. You have filmmakers like Gareth Edwards, who have actually made a Star Wars film, struggling with budget to make another sci-fi. Meanwhile, because of a mix of paid-for-Twitter bots and the most insufferable types of diehard fans, Zach Snyder can just be given hundreds of millions of dollars to make this fucking shit. I know Netflix’s head of film said that Netflix will "improve the quality" of its movie releases and produce a "wide spectrum of films" at different budget levels, but they should’ve made that decision before greenlighting this and the previous film. Therefore we could’ve had $100 million dollars go to a wide spectrum of quality films that vary in budget.

everyone's gonna hate this but he's making movies for fascists. His audience is the kind of guys who would have stormed the capital on January 6 but they couldn't get a ride because they got into a fight with their mom. He's making exactly the kinds of movies that cater to the anti-woke crowd and to be successful with them, you have to have a completely twisted view of the world and what has value. To them, the pure masculine power of a slow-motion action scene will always be a million times better than anything like an interesting character arc because it represents the things they find the most important, power, status, masculinity, looking cool, maintaining the status quo.

The twist of Trap is going to be that the FBI or whoever has been working with Haley Joel Osment’s character from The Sixth Sense, who has been talking with the ghosts of his victims. A la Split. This is his trap to get us to go through another ultimately tedious trilogy with an unsatisfying conclusion. Those folks with the clover tattoos will also be involved. Maybe his daughter has been dead all along, and she’s the one working with Haley Joel Osment as a mole, because her dad can see dead people, too, maybe with some caveats.
