Chris, your channel is a must-go for anybody starting with (Fuji) photography, like myself a year ago. I bought the X-T4 1 month ago, and I devoured your videos! They’re not only extremely useful information wise, but your enthusiasm makes me really heart pumping to know my camera inside and out. It’s really inspirational! If I were Fuji, I would hire you immediately. A big thank you from The Netherlands!

I 100% agree! I use ISO 12800 max. People put too much thought into High ISO performance. As long as you can see the expressions on peoples faces that expresses the moment, I and the people are perfectly happy with it. Graininess should be viewed as a style rather than a failure. What really sucks is missing the moment!

The reason for lowest shutter speed of 23mm is 1/34 is because safe shutter speed formula for handheld of 1/focal length is based on 35mm equivalent focal length, which 23x1.5 is 34.5.

Thank you for the wonderful explanation Chris, I got an X-T4 recently and your video actually allowed me to use the camera in Auto ISO mode instead of avoiding that mode altogether because of the issue with minimum SS, which as you said was the big gotcha. The other gotcha (for me at least) is shown at 11:02. Specifically, if I took control of the SS and Aperture, and decided to leave the ISO up to the camera, then that means I'd like to *monitor* the ISO on the fly. But I cannot do that, because Fuji decided to display the *maximum* value I had for the setting all the time, unless I half-click the shutter and lock focus /exposure which is the only time the *real* or current ISO that will be recorded on my photo is shown. Maybe I don't want to lock everything and half press the shutter just to read the ISO value, instead it would be much more useful to show ISOA1 12800 somewhere at the top of the EVF so that I know what setting I'm in, but show the current ISO updated on the fly at the bottom, so that I can see what the camera does with it all the time. That way I can adjust my SS/aperture on the fly and press the shutter when I mean to lock focus and shoot the photo, instead of to check my current ISO. Sadly, I was not able to find a way to achieve this no matter what I do.

Auto-ISO is especially nice for street photography. The light changes by the second with shadows and such. Things are changing and happening quickly in that environment, so I don't want to be fussing with settings. I want to get the shot. The other thing is that I shoot aperture priority most of the time. So that limits the camera to just two things for good exposure: shutter and ISO. Also. I want the shutter at a minimum speed so as to prevent blur. Auto-ISO allows me to do this. Great feature.

I had watched your ISO invariance video, loved it, and your video on how to set the command dial for ISO was super useful. Didn't know that was possible. I learned a few things on this too, but if I can add a suggestion. I use ALL 3 AUTO ISO settings, and while I can't rename them, I call them DAY, DUSK, and EVENING. So AUTO ISO 1 is for bright conditions, with a higher minimum shutter speed, lowest ISO, etc. AUTO ISO 2 is for Lower Light situations, with ISO 400 as minimum, a lower minimum shutter speed like 1/60, and a top speed of about 1600. Then ISO 3 I let go to 12800 ISO, and I do use AUTO for the minimum shutter speed. AND, to change these SUPER QUICK, I use the right directional button to change AUTO ISO. Not only is it super fast, I can push again to the right to quickly adjust these settings. And while I normally shoot Aperture Priority, as you mention, I can quickly grab the shutter dial to change the minimum shutter speed to a fixed setting if need be. I do have a 5 min video here on KZread on how I do this, but you get the idea. Thanks to YOUR video, I learned today that I can quickly change AUTO ISO with the front command dial, but I don't like the fact that it would be super easy to accidentally roll that dial and suddenly be using an ISO I may not want. Light may change, but usually not dramatically enough that one of the 3 settings won't handle it, but by using the right directional button (works best because another push in the same direction gets you to be able to adjust these without going to the menu), I can change things quickly at weddings and events, and instead of OK I can just gently tap the shutter button to set it. THANKS AGAIN! I subscribed!

Absolutely terrific. Saved me an enormous amount of time trying to figure this out on my own. For wildlife, I find it best to shoot wide open (smallest f- number for given lens), and Auto settings: default sensitivity: 200; max sensitivity: 12,800; min shutter speed 1/60. Your tip to override the shutter speed using the SS dial solved the mystery for me. I use an XT2. Thank you very much for your understandable tutorials.

Thank you so much for all that Information about the Fuji-Cameras. I just want to share my experience in terms of Auto-ISO and Auto-SS: Auto ISO and Auto-SS works like this: First the camera will try to regulate the exposure by regulating the SS. (ISO stays at the default value) When the camera reaches the min. SS and the image is still underexposed, the camera starts to regulate the ISO If the camera reaches the min/max-values for SS and ISO and the image is still underexposed, then the camera will try to fix the exposure by going beyond the min-value for the SS. Thats why i have the same max ISO-Values for all 3 Auto-ISO-Profiles (max 6400 ISO). Instead of setting different ISO-Values for the Auto-ISO-Profiles, i set different min-SS-Values (In my case 1/125, 1/80, 1/60)

I had the same issues with Canon's minimum shutter speed. I found out the hard way that the camera takes liberty with your shutter speed...no bueno. But great fix! Thanks pal2tech!

As always, great content sir. Im new to fuji cameras and i have only started to shoot again, so picking up where i left-off kinda thing. Ive been scratching my head on this auto ISO settings since the day i got the camera. Thought im making some mistakes in setting it up. Fuji needs to really have a good firmware update to correct the min shut speed thing else just rename the darn thing.. hehehe.. thanks again for this wonderful content sir.

The only problem with your DWATI mode is that you can easily over expose your photo in case you set the shutterspeed on the dial to low. The camera can then not choose higher shutterspeeds anymore and you might not notice it in that moment. I think the 3 auto ISO modes are great. I just have different min shutterspeeds for each, while min/max ISO I keep the same for all (just use the cameras max/min possible ISO). Still, thanks for your videos! I didn't know there was an auto min shutterspeed option yet, I like that. Keep up the good work!

Back when this video came out, I had set my Auto ISO Button Dial to COMMAND, then a month ago when I was shooting in conditions where it would have been best to use auto ISO, I could not for the life of me figure out how to set it back to auto, I went absolutely nuts, and of course now that all my photos and videos from that shoot have been published, this video pops into my recommended and low and behold, its the one tab I did not check in the options

haha... same! got offended by my fuji too. I grew up on manual shooting. thanks to the two holidays (which corona is the main one), I decided to learn to enjoy the benefits of auto features on my fuji. and I stuck in the same "Min SS" dilemma, I couldn't understand why the camera ignores my "min ss". I gave up digging the menu or google for fuji bugs. I just did the same, use it to border only the ISO. now I found your video about! I guess it's still, an "AUTO Priority" feature after all. it will be really nice to have Min SS feature that actually bounds the SS as expected.

Thank you so much! Yes, and the X-T5 will also collapse into itself and self-sharpen all the raw files to CHROME before recomposing into a Tesla Model XR and self-flying you to Iceland for a two week shoot.
