I have a 1943 Perth Mint, Australian 1/2 penny that is zinc. I thought it was just zinc plated but it 5.50 grams plating should add weight, and though scratched it shows all the sharp details. I am leaning as an error coin of some kind because it has a coppery color under a deep rim dent. This could also be someones idea of a joke in days past. I received it from an estate sale in a bulk buy. Any ideas on what it could be?

It could be a specimen or fake. The only large zinc coins from that period are Danish 5 Ore coins issued under German occupation. So the chances of a mix up with Australian blanks are small. Could also be fake. Ask the Mint. But as I have not seen the coin I will not comment further.

The other coin I noticed error on is a SYDNEY NSW PEACE AND PLENTY. Can't find currency so maybe it's a medal? Slightly larger and thicker than a penny. About 3-4x the weight. One side it has a Ram the other side is Lady Justice - but it's printed on reversed. Meaning it's upsidedown. There are 3 other obvious errors on the outside. Just extra copper over the bumps. Curious about this coin. Can you recommend any info?

I’ve got a 1938 penny afew barely visible marks with 1 cut that you can see on top of the i under the king and the kg wore out abit what would you grade it

Could be an error or damage. Can not know till I see the coin.

I've found the 3 different 1943 pennies, for all I know there could be more but I'm not looking any further. I can't find any errors in the one you were looking at but the one minted in Bombay looks like it's on steroids. I must have the light in the right place because I've never noticed so many beautiful colours and streaks. Thanks Glen

I have a penny that has period in the beginning and end of the word .penny.

I have one! Was given 20 Australian pennies and the 1943 penny is like this one.

I know of a collection of hundreds of pennies and haft pennies just looking at a 1943 penny with a lot more errors than the one you are showing .Does the value go up for the errors

Oh no dots in Melbourne, and the Ghosting is not as commo on them.

You can look at www.allcoinvalues.com but prices are a half to a quarter quoted. Also ebay sold items to get an average. Hope this helps. Thank you.

That is ghosting.

Mine has a die crack on roo side that goes alway across and a lamentation on king side no dot after penny, I like your coin its pretty cool What about the half penny same year

Thank you. Most of the errors I see are on the Penny, I am yet to find a halfpenny of any year with errors. Your coin sounds cool.

You need to weigh the coin, if 9.45 grammes it is most likely an error. If lighter, the most likely is has been worn down, so pmd.
