I was looking through my pennies and I had at least 6 or 7 wheat pennies i wrapped in clear tape. I ran a magnet across them because I could not read the year too good. The one that stuck was in fact a 1943 penny the magnet found. Nice video.

Me too... Funny how the simplest little things were handed down to some of us... It's almost like that was another lifetime ago. And all I have left are memories by the handful of still pennies and a few other Little treasures. Things that kids nowadays aren't even interested in. It's sad. Well God bless you. Stay safe and stay well.

Interesting fact I found out about the holes in those early silvers---they used to tie them together and hang and sew them inside clothing etc., or even under hair, to keep from being robbed. It was a darker world back then...not many lights. How cool is that? And, the holes can even add value, but will not take away as long as they are original.

You may be missing an extremely rare and valuable error on the nickel you show here. Other than the obvious double strike, you may notice how the edge on the opposite side appears to be pushed in from the collar edge, or flattened. It is possible that after the nickel was struck normally within the retaining collar, a second strike might have hit the coin on the edge. This would have happened prior to the obvious "double strike". An edge strike occurs when a planchet has been struck, and rather than being pushed out of the die press, it gets briefly stuck to the top die, and in this case, the coin may have been turned 90 degrees after being dropped from the top die, rendering it trapped in the press as the coin is then struck on the very edge, leaving an image of the coin pressed into the collar. This flattens/bulges out the edge of the coin at the 90 degree angle strike. It seems like this may have happened here, as the "second strike". The "third strike" would occur following this, as the now, double-struck coin is only partially pushed out of the press (now horizontal) before the press strikes once more, creating the obvious double strike outside of the retaining collar, which you have pointed out.

I recall seeing a show awhile back where somebody had rare coins or currency and when the government found out about it, they confiscated it saying it was their property and the person who had them got nothing for them. IF that is true, then for the average person trying to find a coin dealer who could help them sell it to a private collector would be difficult indeed.

JD, gota a question. Years back my wife found a dime that also had a penny strike on it on both sides. Was that done intentionally by someone at the mint in the production room, or a true accident. Anyway, what do you think it is worth? I believe it is dated very early 1980's or 1970's. We're not coin collectors but smart enough to know it's a rare one. Thanks for responding back.

Hello JD, I believe I've found a 1944-s steel cent.. I just need help getting the coin graded and sold. I did the magnet test that you recommended , and the coin stuck to the magnet. The 44-S looks Like it would grade ms 63 or maybe a little more. Anyway, Thanks for the video. Very informative!

That error nickel is so cool , I'm discussed with me. I threw my 1990 1969 mint sets . Every coin in both sets had errors , but after 2o years being so careful, I forgot I put them in the recycling Ben. I was running to go out , stuffed them in the barrel, and forgot! It's been two days , can't seem to get my mind off it ,sorry. I have nickels that I found in the last week . They have steps but have. Are they worth anything?

The mint made over 430 million 1944-D cents so in average condition they're only worth a few cents. The cool thing about 1944 and 1945 cents is they were made from recycled copper ammunition casings, so you have a piece of WWII history!

I was absolutely convinced I had a 1944 steel penny... I remembered it as that date and wondered how the hell such a rare coin went unnoticed. Then after checking my book of pennies after this video, it was just a 1943 steel. I could have sworn the one I owned was the '44 and you had my hopes up for a moment. All I have to say is... damn.

i just your site. I know nothing about coins ( will just enough not to much ). in watching twice I've learned a little more. you talk in real talk. I'm not collecting ( a little ). I'm trying to get rid of 40 year + of change. i did not know there was value in errors if a coin. what im doing first, is getting in denomination order, and any sub denomination. Then into date order, then mint order. your voice tone isn't mean. " like any fool knows that". you show good. examples of what your talking about. some of the others sites, I just don't get it. my lack of knowledge and their style of representation. I'm frustrated. i have to believe or i choose to believe i have something of value. More than face value. and im not confused. Should I make any value, half will. be donated to my local humane society.
