They really did the 3DS dirty here. I can see their stance on everything but that. The 3DS had a rough start but it developed one of the best game libraries for a Nintendo console. It dominated the market from 2011 until 2017 and is the fourth highest selling handheld console of all time. It also bailed out Nintendo financially when the Wii U was failing miserably.

I don't really agree i mean it really wasn't much of an improvement to the DS models that came before it. The 3D aspect was pretty underwhelming so i guess it was just a performance bump but i don't think it was a significant enough performance bump from the DSi

It triggers me hard. The WiiU had it's flaws for sure, sales were bad, marketing was bad, the whole concept was a little bit weird and so on. But it still had tons of great and fun games, that you could sink in hours. And it was kinda like the "Switch Prototype". The Virtual Boy sucked. It didn't help Nintendo progress at all. You had to sit with that weird thing on a table on a stand. It had only a handfull of games, wich for the most part sucked hard. It had the worst sales ever. It only had a monochrome red screen. You just can't rank the WiiU lower then this piece of Garbage. You just can't.

Very hardcore focused tier list, understandable when one of the guys barely played Nintendo consoles. The Wii and 3DS are not C and D tier consoles. Yes, the Wii got so much shovelware, but also an amazing list of AAA games, it just the community doesn't want to forgive that is a "casual" console, not marketed for the traditional gamer. The Wii is a A tier console. 3DS? Well, it's not a revolutionary or groundbreaking handheld, hardware-wise, but the library... Oh my god!, So many amazing games. Definitively, not a C console. At least is a B+

I feel like because the Wii had Super Mario Galaxy, 1 and 2, on it, make it at least an A or S tier. Both those games are considered 2 of the best games ever made.

I have to correct matt, breath of the wild wasn't a wii u port , it was released at the same time for both consoles.

Actually you're wrong, Nintendo wanted to release it originally for the Wii U. When they were part way done making the game, then they decided to put it on the Switch. So technically it is a Wii U port

@@shadyhooligan5533 He's right, they did the *exact* same thing with Twilight Princess on the GC+Wii almost 15 years ago now. Given that the hardware in both of those consoles was effectively identical (part of why the Dolphin Emulator can bounce between both consoles effortlessly), the only core design difference between the versions was that the GC version had Link left-handed like normal using only buttons, and the Wii version flipped basically the entire game world so that Link was right handed for the first time ever to align with the default stance of the average right-handed Wii user. zelda.gamepedia.com/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Twilight_Princess_HD BotW is even more identical than that, they even run at damn near the same resolution with near identical settings. Given that the Switch is so much more powerful... why else would the WiiU version look damn near identical to the Switch version if it wasn't a port?

It was originally meant to be a WiiU exclusive to be released in 2015. But it got delayed the the WiiU failed, so they ported it to the Switch. Same for Twilight Princess. It was supposed to be a Game Cube exclusive to be relealed in late 2005 but it got delayed, so they made a Wii port. Ironically, to avoid canibalizing on the Wii's sells, they released the Wii version 3 weeks before the GameCube, meaning that this is the only case that I know of where the port was released BEFORE the original.

This list definitely seems to be operating under a "how did these consoles sell and influence culture, and what historical significance do they have?" moreso than a list of placing which systems are better in terms of enjoyability, features, hardware, library, etc. The Wii U's ability to play most of Nintendo's backlog (even without modding) alone makes it a way better investment and fun to use experience over a lot of these, but it was a flop in sales. And while a few of the Wii U's biggest titles had ports or sequels, it's still the only native way to play Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, which are arguably definitive ways to play those titles outside of PC emulation. I feel like seeing the 3DS and VB next to each other is cursed though, cmon that handheld was rad and is still the only viable 3D gaming experience ever made and the technology still wows today arguably.

@@TSmiffer It's a super divisive feature but it was revolutionary tech to say the least. The resolution is effectively halved when 3D is on so I completely understand where you're coming from, and for me... 50% of the time I see ghosting on lighter elements with darker backgrounds. But I still find it amazing and prefer my N3DSXL over having a N2DSXL.

I'D put the 3ds at B tier for that it saved nintendo because their main console, wii U is failing horribly and that while it had a rocky start it crushed the competition in handheld category (rip vita) The DS should be an A or even the S tier because it was innovative of its time and it spun great versions (ds lite battery was really great, dsi were really cool)

Yeah I’m sure it was better than the original gameboy but I’m talking about the one with the shitty green display and weird lags, that’s you couldn’t play in the dark. The virtual boy is much better than that, however the Wii U is much better than the virtual boy. Let’s put the nostalgia bias away and actually think about the problems.the virtual boy had 3D, it was a cool novelty, it wasn’t “horrible” to look at, it had a few good games like wario land. It was 32-bit, and it was semi portable. The gameboy was small with a small screen that honestly had the potential of being slightly bigger but wasn’t made that way, while we’re talking about display you couldn’t play it in the dark it was a dark green which you could barely see it was in 2d 8-bit it had screen jumps and it took 4 aa batteries with 15 hours which is impressive but don’t you think you could have a full color display or just more colors and still have 10hours of battery not to begin with the worm light which took more of the battery life. The virtual boy also had an amazing sound system. Not saying the gameboy was bad retro spec it was made years before the virtual boy, however you can’t compare different consoles from different generations however you kinda have to if you really want to compare something cause you dont know what it would have been like if it was made in the same generation cause it wasn’t . The gameboy pocket was more recent but it wasn’t that big of a difference to make it better than the virtual boy. The virtual boy also had a Gimmick the gameboy didn’t besides it being portable which portable game consoles had been around before the nes or even original famicom which came out before the nes.

The Wii deserves a S Tier. It revolutionized motion control and brought in so many casual gamers in all age groups.

You have to remember that besides the Wii motion controls never really became popular though, to this day they're a niche control in the form of VR games which might be more mainstream when the cost of the equipment becomes more consumer friendly. To be completely honest without VR motion controls would probably be dead

@@disgracecentral Considering the Wii outsold its competitors by a pretty significant margin, I think the facts disagree. The motion controls were THE thing that sold the console. Talking about the Wii without Wii Sports is like talking about the NES without Super Mario Bros. They may not have all held up over the last 15 years, but to say the Wii motion controls were never popular is so patently false, I don't really have to nice way to say that you're incredibly wrong.

What's wrong with Nintendo Switch online? I know you have to have a smartphone to have voice chat, but other than that, who cares? I don't play games to chat with people, I play games for the fun of playing a game. Unless you have a regular group of people you play games with, you get a bunch of screaming kids cursing and calling people "faggot" on games they have no business playing. Seriously, why are 6 and 7 year old kids even playing games like Call of Duty?

@@Link_t. the switch has bluetooth, that's how joycons and other wireless controllers connect they just won't let you use it for anything else

The one point you didn't cover for the DS and it almost felt like you would was that the DS's success with the casual crowd is what gave Nintendo the final positive reinforcement to go for that same crowd with their next console.

I would put Gameboy Advance SP top due to being able to play Gameboy and Gameboy Colour cartridges and due to having a decent screen

Are you kidding me?? The *Wii* was a complete *game changer* 🤦‍♂️ Literally everyone had it or wanted it and it was constantly sold out everywhere. It was the first major game system to ever use _motion controls._ I even remember people getting a *Wii* that never had a game system before. I agree that it didn't have the best games, but even the basic bowling, tennis, archery, etc. games were a ton of fun and everyone wanted to play it.

Everyone wanting one, doesn't necessarily mean that it was a "good" console just that it was very, very hyped up before release. Personally, I don't think you can really compare the Wii and the Wii U to the other Nintendo consoles since it was marketed towards a completely different audience and thus had a whole different purpose. It was made from the ground up to appeal to the casual audience and attrack as many people who would never play video games to it as possible. I think that's also what made it such a big disappointment to so many long time gamers, it just didn't have what they were looking for. For me, It's the first Nintendo console that I didn't buy since the NES, because while it was interesting in some regards it just didn't have games that I've come to expect from Nintendo and lost a ton of it's appeal. I skipped the WII/Wii U, and eventually got a Switch but honestly only because it's portable and I think it's genuinely a much more versatile console than the Wii/U with a much wider focus and lot less gimmicky.

The potential of a modded Wii U to big time fans of Nintendo's history is huge. But if I stack it up to playing those consoles on PC, they don't really compete. Especially with N64. There are many titles on that console that just won't play on a wii u, and not to mention - the N64 roms it does support have issues with darkened image gameplay. But by and large, if you don't use a PC and you want an all around Nintendo Retro console, it's amazing at that.

they put the switch in A tier. it deserves an S tier. And the 3DS is a great device, about a C or B tier.

No. It still years later has a terrible library of games. Almost 90% of the catalog is simply ports of games that have been out for years on other platforms. If the Switch could compete graphically it might fare better but sadly the only utility it brings is portability and that is a stretch as it is huge.

I really gotta disagree with putting the virtual boy higher than the Wii U. Im not saying the Wii U is A tier or anything but the virtual boy was basically single color and black, very expensive, had no way of sharing the experience with others due to no video out, the controller was poor and IT MADE USERS SICK and often did it in less than 20 minutes. And on top of that the catalog was limited and poor. Just because they tried VR first doesn't mean they should get credit when they did it so badly. If anything deserved F tier this.

I feel like the Wii is underrated here - it started a wave of motion control acceptance in the industry, which likely led to things like motion controls for VR etc. This is coming from someone who quite frankly hated the Wii and thought it couldn't compete with the other consoles at the time, it DID try and innovate and some would argue it succeeded on that front.

gotta argue for the wii u a little. some of the best gameplay experiences i've had with friends are with the wii u, especially with nintendoland. I'd say that was the killer-app, the entry level was just a little high. if you wanted to play with 4 other friends, you'd need 4 wii-motes. Fortunately, the wii sold a lot and a lot of people had wii motes. Some other top games like super mario 3d world, mario kart 8, mario maker came out during that time. Definitely could've used more 3rd party support, but i'd rank it at least a C on the tier list rather than saying it achieved nothing haha. Also backwards compatible?

Hey Austin and Matt, you guys should make a video discussing your predictions and possible facts (if any) about the pc market after this pandemic. Since almost everything is sold out or very over priced, do you think after this pandemic, we’ll see high quantities of pc part and be sold for little cheaper (like you discussed in your August 2019 video in the main channel) or do you think parts will stay up in price for potential high demands for people finally being able to upgrade or build a pc after a long wait?

I remember the struggles of not having a backlit screen. Purchased a magnifier which had a light on top to allow you to play in the dark. But when I upgraded to that Sp that shit hit different

SNES I have to say hands down is S tier, it is the quintessential platform where arguably many of the best franchises were introduced and brought mechanics never seen before.

The DS and Wii are so underrated in this case and it's what I grew up with and why I got the Switch. I would put them up in the A or S tier for sure

How can you talk GameCube without the controller?! It's still used for the switch! Games aged amazingly and swappable memory cards were great to bring your game file to a friends house. S tier

Plus he said the gameboy advance wasn’t a big upgrade hardware wise. It’s like an nes vs snes and he said that there was no App Store on Wii for Netflix when that was because of licensing. That eventually expired and it was offered on the Wii shop.

Placing the Wii U below virtual boy, I'm now convinced that your rating system is reversed (top-bottom is low-high). Besides The Wii U actually had a really good concept idea with the two(2) screens, like a home version of the DS line. I've been wanting to play an rpg like for example Fallout, where you could run around and still look at the pipboy without the game pausing. Now I want to see a rating of the different consoles concept ideas. 🤙🏼✌🏼 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Wii U: Still has some exclusive, plays Wii games natively, supports HDMI, Virtual Console I still use it to this day, even if I have also the Switch And also N64 doesn't need memory packs as data gets saved on the cartridge Also imo from the Color to the advance it was a big leap, basically it went straight up to SNES-gaming level, even a bit more, from an 8-bit experience The 3DS is the ultimate Nintendo portable (before the Switch), the 3DS can play all in the same console all the handheld Nintendo games and also some console games. The Wii U was the ultimate Nintendo home console, especially with Nintendont. The Wii U can Play all the home console games from Nintendo, from the NES to the Wii, including of course the Wii U. You might say, "no it can't play gcn games" but if you install Nintendont you can, as the Wii U is Backwards compatible with the Wii, and the Wii is backwards compatible with the gcn, so theoretically the Wii U can Play also gcn Games, Not to mention it can play also all the handheld games (ik, in the virtual console there aren't GB and GBC games but come on, the Wii U can easily play those), up to the DS

Imo the GBA SP, Gamecube, DS lite and switch were my favorites but the n64 holds a special place in my heart too.

have only ever owned a first gen DS and a Wii lol. both still work to this day which is pretty incredible (tho the cd drive on the wii prolly needs replacing). Was literally just listening to the Mario Galaxy sound track like a day ago too. the nostalgia

I would place the Wii U some where near C or B tier. It had some great and good looking games like Mario kart, it is just that the community didn’t know what it was.

Never played competitive smash but gamecube was my favorite cuz it had double dash.

Tyler Timko The NES was really important and influential, and heralded a new era of videogames after the video game crash of 1983. It’s also the console on which many great game series started.

Playing in the dark was a struggle. I had a lamp add-on for the game boy colour which chewed up even more batteries and it was yellow when my Gameboy colour was purple. It was worth being able to play in the dark though, the Gameboy advance SP was a legit massive upgrade

The biggest problems with the Switch i my opinion is the battery life and storage you get when you don't buy a bigger SSD card for it

N64 is S tier for me Harvest moon, Mario 64, Goldeneye, turok 1&2, bomberman, Kirby, iggys wrecking ball, rampage N64 is undefeated

The 3ds is an emulation beast now and it had some great titiles , hands down deserves the C tier

The games on N64 that needed save states had the feature built in to the cartridge, also you could get a memory card accessory that plugged into the controller. Otherwise there were games designed around not saving state. Thats unheard of now, but was kind of the norm around this time.

Also alot of people thought the Wii u was a attachment to the Wii and not a separate console

B TIER

I had the original gb advance and a sd back in the day thank god for that backlight

I sometimes have nosebleeds when it gets really dry and one popped up when I was playing my first DS Lite and a tiny bit got in between the clear plastic and the white plastic The hilarious thing is that I sold it with the tiny bit of dried blood still in there 😂

CoD Black ops 2 on Wii U was next level. Me on the TV and my friend on the game pad playing multiplayer on one console. was kinda cool.

The Gamecube deserves a SSS+. The performance, the best controller ever made, the GameBoy module to play GameBoy games, and the engineering that went into this cube-shaped device. Ever opened one? Looks amazing inside. And it even has a handle!

GameCube deserves S TIER. Think about the games GameCube had 6 resident evil games Eternal darkness Super smash bros melee Luigi’s mansion Metal gear solid twin snakes Skies of Arcadia Pikmin Pokémon colosseum and XD: Gale of darkness

Uhhh... I seem to remember being able to get Netflix on the wii from the store. We never had to use the disc to install Netflix.

It's wierd, in the UK the NES would probably be considered a B or C tier console as it wasn't that successful where the SNES would get the S tier, it put Nintendo on the map. Where on the handheld side pretty much all of them were A-S tier

Gamcube is definitely at least A tier for 3 main games Super Mario sunshine (the best Mario game), Legend of Zelda: Windwaker, and SSB melee.

Just an FYI, the Saturn has internal memory. It was stupid limited BUT it existed...I just changed my Saturn internal battery last week.

I still play the Wii-U quite a lot. In fact, I like it more than the Wii. To me, it would be in at least the "c" tier, if not the "B".

The most sold console in history in C tier? This much it been the first console for an entire generation of people, getting them into gaming and boosting the entire market to a new height. The motion controls are a basically the precursor to how we control AR now. And hell yeah there was a ton of crappy games for it but this is what made it so good and diverse. The Wii is S tier.

My 1st console ever was the Gameboy Advance. Now I own the Switch and NES classic mini

they put the wiiu in F tier. this is a tragedy. an absolute atrocity.

The only problem is for a 144hz monitor it cost £200 the pc is £930 which I think is a good deal especially if it’s good enough
