Re2 was my introduction to the series on PS1... Till this day I think it's the best beside og re3 and outbreak

I know it's a bit of a cop-out but growing up with the PS2 and xbox 360, I love, love, love the UI better on the PS2. More importantly, I love how I didn't have to be online to use the darn thing. Having physical saves you plug into the PS2, 2-player support, simple UI, and my first DVD player I think. I played the original Destroy All Humans on the PS2, Sly Cooper, Scooby-Doo, Rachet and Clink, and many others. That era was peak gaming for me. I still play mostly PS2/360 games to this day even though I have a series s and a PS2.

Did you mean PS2 and XBOX, or PS3 and X360? I liked the XBOX UI much better than the PS2 because I could rip my music to the HDD and play it in-game, and I remember the original "Blade" UI for the X360 was awful.

One thing you forgot to mention about the PS Vita is that it would play your PS4 remotely you know exactly what the PlayStation portal does. Lol but it did it way back in the day. And they’re introducing the portal like it’s a whole new thing when it isn’t. The Vita did it first, or you could use your PlayStation TV and do the same thing.

Man the Vita has literally been with me since I was 9. It works fine to this day (1 stick has drift) but yea this thing is durable

I willl always remember when my dad bought the ps3 trying to connect with me and ended up not understanding it and just using the blue ray player part because at that time was cutting edge and ahead of its time in a console

From what I’ve read that’s the biggest reason that most people bought a ps3 was because it was a cheap blue ray player, that and it was a popular console in poorer countries because of the free online.

I loved my PSP too. I was 16 and saved up for months to get it at launch. I had my foster mom take me to GameStop before going to school to pick it up. I had it for maybe 6 months, then my thug foster brothers stole it and never admitted to it. I hacked it and it was my first MP3 player and movie player and it rocked!

PS5 is A tier and PS5 Slim is D tier? Are they 2 completely different consoles? I was under the impression that it was basically the same console in a different form factor. But now I'm starting to think it's not even the same console on the inside. Can you please explain what about the insides are so significantly different from one another? Because now I'm genuinely curious, because there's no possible way the PS5 Slim and PS5 could be 4 tier levels away from from each other just based on the appearance and design. That would be the dumbest ranking in the world......so it HAS TO BE different on the inside too, and now I'm genuinely curious as to what that is. Now I'm starting to feel sorry for all the little kids about to open up a piece of crap present on Christmas morning that parents thought would be a nice gift 😢😢😢😢

Not sure how PS5 slim is rated a D I mean its the only system that you can add a drive to without breaking warranty and opening it up and I have had a few consoles that had a dead disk drive so to just simply pop one in for under $100 seems to be a small game changer to me but ok I guess..

PS3 is S tier, with all that you can do with the system makes tier. Play Playstation games, PS2 games ( depending on the model but you can still buy them digitally), you can rip your media onto the system to watch or listen to, Dvd support, Blu-ray, being able to custom your background theme and so much more.

Yea, thats awesome and everything but in the video i encountered an error. The Nintendo Playstation was a prototype of an add-on and later a combo system for the SNES, not the NES, the NES had already a disc drive add-on (even if was based of proprietary floppies and only for japan)

The title of this video gave me the idea for the all Playstation workstation

The PS3 super slim being on the F list is sad because it is the best model and the most reliable one of the 3. It still played PS1 games. I still have mines and it still works flawlessly. Mines even looks just as good as when I first bought it with the glossy plastic not scratched up either. I think it gets a lot of hate for no reason.

It’s not the most reliable on paper, that’s a misconception. But while I don’t like the design personally, it’s still a PS3, this dude seems to be ranking consoles by how pretty they look, with little regard to the games sometimes.

PS Portal would be miles better if it had cellular. Even if a place does not have wifi, 5G is becoming more prevalent in cities. And people still do not have hotspots to create a bridgeway. PS Portal not including cellular, allowing people to utilize an overall better service for out-and-about play really screwed themselves. If tomorrow Sony decided to come out with a cellular version for $30-$50 more, I'd even consider purchasing it. I think, also, if they did a trade-in where people could trade their Portal for the cellular, PS may likely not lose that much money and the cellular option would draw more people in later down the line.

Ehh no absolutely, why pay for another cellular line when you can’t just use hotspot.

The Ps portal should have been more like stadia. You could buy the game or play games you already own digitally. And stream them anywhere. You can also have all your saves through the ps cloud.

I love my super slim ps3! Had it for 10 years. Still plays smooth and its quiet. Id give it a B. The dualshock 3 controller was not great.

Same, though I've had most of my experience on the regular slim, 10-15 years, I prefer the super slim over it. Aesthetically and performance wise. While most hate the disc tray, it reminds me a lot of the PS2 slim so I actually love it. The OG ps3 is my fav though.

You forgot the Sony Bravia KDL-22PX300 TV, which had a PS2 built into it 😉 I'm pretty sure that thing came out after the PS3 which made everyone go "huh???"

I think the PS4 Slim was just Sony imitating Microsoft making the Xbox One S. My friends and I planned to get PS4 consoles, then one friend was dumb and bought an XB1 in GameStop becuase it came with a game and was discounted $50. What game? FO76. LOL I literally smacked him on the shoulder and called him an idiot because GameStop was selling the Uncharted 4 PS4 with the Nathan Drake Collection online and it was discounted even more. So, of course, I had to buy an XB1 in order to play online with him and his wife. *sigh* That console drove me firmly back to PC gaming thanks to XBOX Anywhere. Even the PS4 Pro couldn't save me from basically abandoning console gaming due to Sony announcing that they were going to bring a bunch of their exclusives to the PC.

PSP / VITA should be tier S because it is still popular until now, especially those modified ones. It can do emulation on a cheaper price

PS One (slim ps1) was almost portable 😂 On 7 July 2000, Sony released the PS One (stylised as PS one), a smaller, redesigned version of the original PlayStation. It was the highest-selling console through the end of the year, outselling all other consoles-including the PlayStation 2.

I think for this late in the life cycle and for how much better pricing for pc parts and discounts on other consoles are, the fact that ps5 is more in stock and still at the price it is, I'd give it C at best. Sure, for games and what it can do it is great, but I would personally factor in the performance per dollar compared to what all else you can get outside of just one ecosystem. Portal seems like Sony looked at the Wii U and thought somehow that was a genius idea and like Austin pointed out, it is dependent on a constant network connection and the features it lacks, I'd rather buy a Vita second hand and spend the savings on eggnog personally.

Honestly I want to believe that being A tier because Target had 1 day BF sale for that price. I feel stoke about it but wonder about the tier like this video. Thoughts?

I'm with matt on the PS2 slim being above the phat PS2, phat PS2's were far less reliable. The early model phat PS2's had dead laser problems after a few years and those early models also had trouble reliably reading later dual layer DVD PS2 titles even with a good laser. You also had to buy a separate adapter for online vs. it being built into the slim. Now, if you are looking for a PS2 today? The Phat is better because that hard drive slot can be used for homebrew but if you ignore that, the hard drive was a nothing addition (unless you were a huge FF11 fan and didn't own a capable PC) so losing it was a big ol' who gives a crap. Slim S and Phat A.

I agree with most of this tier list, I think the PS3 Super Slim should be D tier because at the end of the day it is still a PS3 the PS3 is a great system overall. But its def the least desired version. The PSone isnt even on this list which is sadge, it is a very cool PS1 system with full compatibility and small form factor and neat when you add in its optional LCD screen, I think these benefits also extend to the PS2 slim, thought I see the screen and such less often for them. Their is also technically a super slim PS2 but its only a minor revision over the PS2 slim. Same can be said about PSP and PSVita variants as well. The new PS5 stuff like the portal and PS5 slim have me scratching my head.

I would rate PS5 slim higher than PS4 slim because % it is smaller than the original and also detachable hard drive and slightly increased SDD. However main reason PS4 was so good was because of the games. There was so many great games and newIPs and they bought in cheap half decent VR

I have to mention 1 thing that austin keeps bringing up when it comes to the PSP every time, the memory cards, they were cheap on the PSP because they were not propritary to the single device as they were used back then for sonys DLSR cameras too and as I remember afew other devices. The PSP Go on the otherhand was propritary and obscenely expensive. The PS3 super slim, as much as everyone gives it hell if we are looking at a non-modded standpoint I would say it atleast gets D tier, its still a PS3 through and through, yes it feels a little cheap but it also was cheap. the PSX-DVR I would also say should of been a little higher D tier would of fit it well as at the end of the day it was a PS2, yes alot of them are dying and "someone" completly killed the one in that video. most are still salvageable, and there are still ways to bypass the dead HDD issues, one being the "IDE Emulator" which is obscenly expensive too but it exists. Also they missed the PSOne but added every other "slim" model but too be honest it would just be B Tier, as it looses the parallel port which in most cases is useless but I would rather have it and not haave to worry about anything needing it than not, plus in all honesty the PS1 was already small as it was. As for the PSVita you missed out on the 3G (yes I know for the time useless but it still existed), aswell as the slim models I can't agree on its placement atall. I would peersonally put it at B tier with the PSP, yes it did not get nearly enough love over in the west and was abandond really early on in the asian market there are loads of amazing games for the system sure in most cases you need to know japanese or find ways to translate it. but that does not change the fact the system did in reality do well in the asian markets. as for the 3G it would be in C tier just because it was considerably more expensive just to have a sim card slot so you can use online when you are outside (which wouldnt of been too bad if unlimited data contracts back then were not so expensive), as for the slim C- as it as a good system, it was much slimmer BUT you lose the OLED screen for a IPS screen, although this did give it the advantage of battery lasting longer even though it was a smaller battery. I do own all 3 and use the 3G model as my main system purely because of the modding scene so I can still use physical cartridges but also be modded without spending £90+ for a 64GB memory stick but lose the sim card slot (yes such a big loss... I use my phone for hotspot if I really need it...) As for the PS2 and PS2 Slim, the PS2 S tier all the ay but the Slim B Tier, sure its in reality the same system overall but some major and minor issues with it (ignoring modding otherwise id throw slim in E tier), minor one obviously being no HDD support anymore, yes everyone goes on about it only being used for FFXI but thats not true, games like Residen Evil outbreak (and File #2), RPG Maker 3, Metal Saga, Street Fighter Apha Anthology, The Urbz all could use the HDD to speed up load times. ESPN NFL 2K5, College Hoops 2K5, MLB 2K5, NHL 2K5, and NBA 2K5 all could have improved replays instead of static images, and NHL 2K5 could save directly to the drive. other games could also save to the drive awell but the last one I wanted to mention was the SOCOM II U.S. Navy SEALs you could get additional maps installed to the drive from a demo disc. Tons of japanese games had the same kind of support too. Also Linux Kit Another minor fault with the slim in my experience is that alot of the earlier models now have laser issues as a common fault this was on sony for trying to make everything cheaper and is normally a simple fix so its minor for me. and the Major Fault being compatability, sure the PS2 overall had compatability issues with PS1 games already, like the NA version of Tombi wouldd freeze when loading saves on all systems, but the slim has even more compatability issues, yes some are just parts of the game freezing but you can continue but most cases its issues with saveing, complete freeze, audio cut, cutscenes skipping, even in 1 JRPG the map does not display correctly. But the nexct one is even some PS2 games haave issues on the Slim, Beyond Good & Evil sound effects will repeat, Gauntlet Dark Legacy game can freeze sometimes after intro movie, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 3 as I know of just straight up ont work on NTSC slims (from what I have heard, I use PAL) Also most multi-taps don't work on slim as most were made for the original. But this is easily solved with just buying the official multitap.... ith all the problems with the slim I would say even giving it B tier is generous but i grew up with the system and could not make myself put it any lower....

Come on, the PSX was so ahead of it's time, it at least deserves a little bit higher. See it as like the PS2 Pro? Also, PSP Street? PSP Slim? Xperia Play? Vita slim? I know they're small changes, but the PSP Street sucked and no one bought it. The PSP slim always just felt a bit too cheaply made compare to the original (and yes, i know theres also the PSP Brite, but it was hardly any different and no one cared). The Xperia Play, again, was way ahead of it's time. And the Vita slim took away the OLED.

I’ve had majority and I can say my favorite has to be the ps2 or ps3 games back then we’re so much more entertaining, sucks growing up and realizing half your old gaming buddies are either gone or stopped playing games overall.

The greatest gen on gen jump was with the Sega Dreamcast. It was a truly revolutionary console. PS2 to PS3 doesn't compare at all.

for a console thats killing itself in the (as shown in every ad standing ) just lay it down please and save yourself whatever you paid for it. my homies just stopped working and he hasnt moved it at all only had it standing .

I'd probably respectfully disagree with the PSP and Vita placements. The hacking'homebrew for the PSP didn't make it much better, but it extended its useful lifespan and did a pretty good job of retro emulation (which y'all still buy and review new hardware that does the same). A lot of companies backed it and put out a lot of western titles for it. And while the MemoryStick Pro Duo cards were a proprietary format (it's the Sony way unfortunately), they weren't the only company to make them (mine were all made by Sandisk for instance). Probably because they were used in Sony cameras as well. They were more expensive than CF and SD cards to be sure, but they weren't prohibitively expensive and unless you were doing "extracurricular activities" on it, you didn't need a large card anyway. The Vita is more of a personal preference. I found the form factor to be ideal, it had an amazing D-pad, a first-gen OLED screen, true dual analog sticks and it became a good console for indie devs since the people who were into it in the west tended to buy a lot of titles for it. And the standby battery life was phenomenal! I let mine go for a month before waking it up, and it was at 50%... compared to the 3DS which would die within 3 days. It had some crazy bad things to it as well. Those damned storage cards. I paid $88 on launch day for a 16GB card! They later on made some 32GB cards and 64GB cards, but the 64GB one commonly dies or corrupts all the data on it. Still, with Sony being Sony, they opted for a closed-system proprietary format so they could limit that hacking entry point, to entice devs to come back after the rampant piracy that took place with the PSP, and it was successful with that. The original OLED model also had a stupid proprietary charging cable; reminded me of the Apple 30-pin connector cut in half and stacked. The cable was durable enough, but Sony didn't allow others to make replacements and it was a crapshoot if a charging brick would work or not, as it needed more than the standard 5V 500mA to work. 3rd party reverse engineered cables were made a few years in, but a ton were wired wrong and would short the battery. At least the later LCD model got a standard USB port. It was decently successful over in Japan. Sony themselves didn't contribute much to it themselves though, with Tearaway and Gravity Rush being about it, and asking Naughty Dog for an Uncharted title. I guess Sony's thought process was a lot like Google's. Try something, but if it isn't WILDLY successful immediately (more than the 3DS in this case), drop it and run. It had a ton of visual novels put out which were popular for commuters, along with all the JRPGs and whatnot. Still, it sold about 6 mil in Japan, compared to the 3DS' 24.5 mil so it didn't "win" but that hasn't stopped Microsoft from exiting the console industry

The vita didn’t have to fail. The idiotic move to make proprietary storage created a pretty larger barrier of entry. Screw the psportal it doesn’t even deserve to be on the list. It’s basically a controller with a screen that serves as a paperweight if you don’t have an internet connection. Screw this generation of consoles.

Ps portal hate is unjust… yea it’s not the handheld we wanted but my experience with it has been phenomenal, for only being 100 dollars more than the backbone that still requires a phone it’s absolutely worth it. Judging the portal as a standalone console is wrong… it’s a ps5 accessory and nothing more.

Why are you comparing the PlayStation Portal to PlayStation consoles? It's an accessory and should be compared to the PSVR/PSVR2. You might as well put the PSOne flip up screen in the F tier as well.

The PS1 start up screen is S rank for me.
