Tactile! If there were a proverbial nail around it would now sink itself into the nearest piece of wood for being hit so eloquently on its head. I have seen people using "naive maturity" before, but I like tactile more. Your comment about her "being an instrument" is interesting because she has commented on it herself (I am going to adlib now). She has said that she is happiest when writing and being in the studio. Then she is "god" with absolute control over "Creation" (something like this, we know how she likes to word herself). While in contrast - she feels like a "medium" or a "channel" on stage - pulling down something outside herself and vocalising it so it can be heard. I find this interesting. Because one would think that the typical singer/songwriter is pulling the music and words out from "somewhere" and "singing it out loud from inside herself" when performing. But somehow Aurora is switching it around. She is Goddess when making the song - and a medium when performing her own song. I also want to add - she is doing something very few female artists do in case you wish to break down more of her: She is a female singer that prefer a male choir as her backdrop. The entire Nidaros consert. The HAIK concert. Even in her studio recordings - she has this boomy male "hum" behind her and not the female trio. She is basically reversing the production-space of her childhood hero (Leonard Cohen) that is known for his boomy almost monotonous voice with some of the most talented female backing vocals known to man-kind to phrase out the composition. She does not stop there - on top of the beautiful "hum" of a male choir, she is harmonizing with another female voice (usually Silja Sol) so she is doubling up on the harmonics - the men booming harmonically - supporting two "sirens" harmonizing on top of it. When one becomes aware of it, one starts scratching own head while asking why do not more great female vocalists explore this "reverse Leonard Choen" soundscape (I guess one can explain it by being half-aware of the fact that being male backing vocals to a female star in 1950 maybe was upsetting some ideas of gender roles?) If people are really nerds - allow me to point to ABBA and their unique and astonishing qualities in both songwriting and performance. Agnetha and Anni-Frid did crazy harmonics taking care of the lead melody. But think about it - Björn and Benny can often be heard subtly in the background. Sometimes simply singing a deep D (what a lovely note) for the girls to vocally dance around in higher octaves. It is such a basic idea - rooting the amazing bird-elegance and technique "on top" not only by deep drums and bass - but also rooting it to deep booming vocal "instrumentation". And yet hardly anyone does it. It may work because Aurora has such a commanding voice. There is no male choir on the planet that can rip our ear-attention from her. One can produce the hell out of her backing without being afraid of her drowning in it. Her vocals are that interesting. And when it works - this reverse Choen is "otherworldly". Fearless, just like Choen was when letting the "backing girls" go amazing on top of his voice - trusting himself enough to know his words and presence would not sound like someone with a limited vocal range hiding something boring.

Fantastic analysis. Definitely the best I've seen. Your comments about her as an instrument being played and her childlike persona that carries so much gravitas and authority really nailed it. I'm a 46 year old guy that's been a musician playing shows regularly for the last 15 years. I've been in that flow state many times but Aurora seems to inhabit it like it's her natural environment. I've never seen anything like her. If there is actually magic in the world she embodies it.

Pls react to Auroras "murder song (5,4,3,2,1)" live from Nobel Peace Price Concert. One guitar, two voices, great great performance and a very sad love story about a man who kills his seriously ill wife to free her from pain. The song is based on an incident near Aurora's homeland. She read that in the paper and wrote this song. She sings from the perspective of the ghost of the woman who has just been killed. The song is heavy fare and wonderful. No sound could be heard from the audience. I've never experienced such a silence in a full house.

She is an extremely gifted and versatile artist ( pure voice, charismatic performance skills and brilliant song writing). Watch Aurora live, she is even even more mesmerizing. "Runaway" from the Nobel Peace Prize concert 2015 (a song she wrote when she was 11), "Lucky" from Nidarosdomen (Trondheim Cathedral) 2017, either "The River" or "Daydreamer" (smiling and dancing joyously) from the HAIK concert 2019 (filmed in the forest where Aurora played in her childhood) and "Conqueror" live from the Honda Stage to see her interact with her audience. Every performance is beyond outstanding. There is no "Divine" influence though all the talent and due credit belongs to Aurora, her supporting musicians and those her produce the clips.

Great reaction! This is one of my absolute favorite version of this song ever! Aurora said in a tv interview that the creativ process in making songs and having the control in the studio, to do what ever you want is liberating, but ones you perform the song live on stage it's out of your hands. You as an artist isn't important anymore. it's all about the song and she is just a tool, a vessel to the song. It comes to her from somewhere and goes through her out to us all. That's why she is so in the moment. Be safe Björn

She also said in an interview once that she sometimes didn't even remember her performances, especially in the early days when she was very nervous on stage and she'd just launch into the song and... be elsewhere for a while. In recordings of some of her early concerts you can see that, she finishes the last notes of the song, eyes closed, hands poised in the air, then there's that brief shake and eyes open and slight look of panic as she returns to this world before she resets herself and goes for the next song. I know the place she went. I have been there maybe three times in my entire life, where something flowed through me that was from beyond me and at the end I was as astonished as everybody around me. Aurora does it routinely.

Aurora is delicate, deep, sweet, very expressive, emotional and performative and adorable. Despite the different style of music, her style reminds me of Kate Bush in her early career. In fact, the two approached the same theme and made two beautiful songs about "seeing the world through the eyes of a child". Kate Bush with: The man whit child in hisc eyes, and Aurora with: Throught eyes of a child. They are truly two wonderful divas.

What is interesting to me is her use of vibrato to sound more fragile. Most of the time when you hear vibrato it's like "Hey, look at me! I have a powerful voice and I can do this vibrato thing to sound even more powerful!" For her, it's a way to bring a wavering uncertain sound to her voice in the more sensitive passages in order to make it sound even more fragile and heartbreaking. I am in awe of her total control of her instrument (her voice).

I am pleasantly surprised that "voice coach" doesnt means McDonaldsemployee as it usually does on KZread. Only a tonedeaf person would dare to critizise her singing, which is so beautiful and forcing its way into your soul.. Good reaction.. exstra points for sound and picture quality.. Thumb up..

The Aurora fans are split on which version they like better. I love them both, but I do prefer the one at the Nidarostomen cathedral a bit more only because she sings it a bit different and the acoustics are just breathtaking. You should check that one out on your own if you do not want to react to the same song twice. She is so fabulous. I love this young lady

Ahh Christi you did the Acapella version, you never fail to impress when you critique someone i dearly love listening to, Aurora also redid the entire Frozen II theme and it is superior in my opinion to the original, it should not be missed, as always thank you.^^ If it strikes you do something she does in Norwegian at some point, her voice as beautiful as it is in English becomes the voice of a Siren of Valhalla when she sings in Norwegian.^^

Hi Christie. I just found your Chanel & I’m mightily impressed with your music knowledge & your reaction style, and as such I have immediately subscribed to your Chanel. I must admit, I’ve heard of Aurora, but haven’t heard her till now, & wow, what a performance. However, I have another absolute GEM for you in a young Soprano singer by the name of Amira Willighagen who won Holland’s Got Talent at the age of nine, without a single singing lesson. She taught herself by watching uTube videos featuring the likes of Pavarotti. Shortly after, she engaged a vocal coach & has since performed in 13 countries and sung in at least 5 languages, & her concert appearances were to a packed auditorium supported by a full orchestra and backup singers. This young Soprano is something special. Her range is superb & whatever register she’s in, she does so effortlessly & without straining, & has a powerful voice with a vibrato that many singers would envy. I have listed a few of Amira’s performances for your consideration. ...O Mio Babbino Caro at age 10. The world renown musician/conductor Andre Rieu invited Amira to perform at a Maastricht concert to an audience of 15,000 who rose as one to give her a standing ovation. ... Nella Fantasia at age 12. ( the concert performance) ... Gabriella’s Song at age 14. ( again the concert performance) ... Flower Duet with Corlea Botha. I have listened to world renown Soprano’s singing this but Amira’s is by far the best I have heard. There are many, many more, but this would be a good start, so I sincerely hope you check Amira out & look forward to a few reactions. Keep up the fantastic work, Cheers, Graeme.

As we leave childhood and grows older, we also grow more pragmatic and numb, and more open to half cut deals in order to manage daily life. The childhood state is unfiltered and let us see the need of our earth and each other. It's not without reason religous texts tell us to find back to that childlike soul in order to enter heaven
