    For years I never understood what people meant when they said a car had "soul". However, having owned a Monaro for three years I totally get it. HSV's are cars you either love or hate. Personally I find they have so much character that they really get under your skin.

    The vauxhall is aussie built, we've been putting huge engines in commodores and falcons over here for years! For over half less than the audis price tag you have to agree the vauxhall is a good deal. Also this is the older model, search for "vf hsv gts" on google for the new model :)

    Hi. The Vauxhall is a re badged fully built in Australia car based on the Holden Commodore. Just the fact that it is even compared with an Audi is a huge achievement. It is like comparing a Hyundai with a BMW. I would really enjoy owning either. The Vauxhall punches above its weight and is therefore, a surprise. The Audi does what is expected of it so it is no big surprise. Both cars are fantastic in their own way. Cheers. Nick.

  • @derbigpr500

    @derbigpr500

    10 жыл бұрын

    Because Germans make the best cars and bring more innovation to the car world than anyone else, so when they make something, everyone else has to match it...that way they're always behind trying to catch up. It's obvious really that everyone else is a generation behind. One generation of an average German saloon car is about 7-8 years, and only when it's at the very end of the life cycle, american and asian cars can even think of getting close to it with their newest offerings...but at that point a new german car comes out and raises the bar again. It's quite simple.

    Ever heard of a Nissan GTR? The reason most don't go 4wd is because in a lot of situations it makes a car worse. It makes the car heavier, saps more power, corrupts steering and uses more fuel. In most cases that's enough to make it a bad decision because most road cars aren't struggling for traction all the time unless there's snow. Also Quattro isn't the be all and end all a lot of people think. Take this car for example. The drivetrain has a tendency for understeer as all Quattro Audi's do because most of the power goes to the front unless the front has already lost traction. Then it sends more to the rear but by then understeer has already set in. This is great for stability but terrible for turn in so the chassis engineers have set the chassis up right on the edge of stability to compensate for this - the chassis set up is what's allowing him to get it sideways into turns but the Quattro won't let him on the way out. Some 4wd systems do it the other way round where most is sent to the rear unless it slips. This is a much better idea because the drive system has a tendency for oversteer which allows the chassis to be set up in a very stable manner - this is how the GTR works (and the new Porsche, etc) and basically means you have to lose more speed on the way into a turn but can then get on the power far earlier as the drive system won't push the front wide on the exit.

  • @BakedPrawns

    @BakedPrawns

    10 жыл бұрын

    Hung huge You're getting confused. You're talking about the haldex awd system which is used in the TT and a3/s3 shaped. This is an electronic based awd system that as you say sends most of the power to the front until slip occurs. All quattro cars from a4 upwards have a torsen awd system. This is fully mechanical and the newest T3 generation like in this Rs6 has a default setup of 40:60 front:rear power split. So it's actually rear biased when no slip is occurring. The RS6 then also gets an uprated sports diff in addition to the torsen awd so is a very capable car with great awd technology

    I have but its still very flimsy car and overall dosent make a luxurious impression like the Audi does, it has power,traction,comfort and interior quality to last a nuke bombing, , what does GTR have a plastic sports car with lots of GRIP and traction its no way near as good or well rounded as an Audi a German car, thas what I am talking about

  • @crossphaded
    @crossphaded10 жыл бұрын

    An oversteering Audi. That's a rare sight to see and magnificent, at that! Audi needs to work on dialing out alot of that understeer and the torque vectoring system is a step in the right direction. Moving the engine rearwards a tad would help alot! They don't need to become oversteering monsters, but eliminating that inherent push when going 9/10ths+ would break the handling stereotype. RS6 FTW! #quattrosnob

    It's funny that they've matched up an aftermarket tuner version of the previous generation VE Holden Commodore against the brand new RS6. If they'd have matched a properly engineered and factory backed VF HSV GTS you'd expect the difference in times to be cut by at least 2 seconds. The electrical systems on this model are light years ahead of the old one so it'll put the power to the ground, the brakes are better developed so they wouldn't have faded as readily, plus it's lighter through the use of high strength steels and aluminium front panels to boot.

    Jamie Della Well, " Money talks " you have 💲💲💲 you can make this two cars Monsters but what I am saying is that this vehicles are like this from the factory, and for sure after you can upgrade them and make faster and faster. Also I didn't mention the RS7 is faster then HSV GTS and that's one is from the factory too is not tuned. Buddy my brother in law have 4 Holdens 1. Is Series 1 ss vf redline 6.0 L Auto with tuned of 270 kw engine and back tyres 270 kw 2. Is Series 2 ss vf redline LS3 V8 6.2 L Auto this one is not tuned and have 304 kw back tyres 3. Is Holden Monaro 5.7 L 270 KW back tyres I drive this one for a year till I bought my own car 4. Is Holden VE series 2 Ute 6.0 L upgrade back tyres to 343 kw is too loud so he drive it only on the weekend, and It's really really fast. Spin wheels easily in 3rd & 4th gear, the problem is when you buy a stock car and you upgrade to 343 kw then starts problems. The clutch can't handle that power need to be replaced with a heavy duty one, Auto gear need to be replaces too, differential need to be changed and the brand new good one cost $ 2000, you need a bigger tyres, engine need to be upgrade a bit more so he can handle all that power, and also Insurance after doesn't give a shit for you cause you break the rules he put so much extras in the car. So all this spending money in all this cars you can buy an Audi which is way more faster, but also that's the way when you like the cars who cares how much money need to spend.

    Its a funny comparison, since 10 square cm's of interior in the Audi are worth more than the entire interior of the VXR8. Why even bother comparing an engineering masterpiece that's excellent in every way to a plastic toy car with a big engine? When has GM ever made a car that doesn't feel like a plastic toy when put next to the German rivals? Even Cadillac's feel cheap and disposable, let alone a Vauxhall.

  • @hunghuge7717

    @hunghuge7717

    Or look at it the other way round and you have a car that's more fun for a lot less money. The Audi interior is still made of plastic and really what's more important in a car? How a dashboard feels (who feels a dashboard anyway?) or what it can do at what cost? Not saying I disagree - I think the Audi is a far better car. Just there are two sides to everything and as much as I like the Audi I would struggle to justify paying pretty much double for it.

    Well let me tell you, in australia (a country where people love oversteer and rarely need awd) the HSV GTS which is similar to this VXR8 has 430kw and costs around $96,000. the audi rs6 has 412kw and costs around $270,000. I really love audis, however paying about $175,000 more to get the nice interior etc if all I wanted was a monster engine does seem a bit ridiculous (in australia). Also its worth noting that the car here tested is a very old model, that interior is from 2006 so really its unfair to compare that interior to the latest RS6 interior. The newer commodore interior is no audi but its a big improvement from the one seen in this video. And yes I know this review is in the uk but this car obviously isn't really for the uk is it, so thats why I am talking about the market it is built for where it actually does make sense.

It's not a vauxhall, It's an Australian made HSV which are reknown for their reliability. Although If i was choosing between them, I'd have to choose the RS6.

    It is not more practical than the RS6, the boot is smaller and there is less space in the back. Just because it's an Audi doesn't mean it's unpractical. And while the Audi's steering does not have a lot of feel, GTS has lifeless steering which is just to light, and it still is nowhere near as luxurious than the Audi. But I still think it's a great fun car.

    I'm responding to the post regarding is it worth the extra price for luxury. I've driven lots of cars in the past and when it comes to luxury, nothing compares when it's your daily car. The luxury part of the car makes you feel special and if you haven't experience driving one, you wouldn't know what I mean. I have a B8 Audi Avant with all the luxury add ons and has a selective suspension. I got a same loaner car but a base model when I was getting maintenance done from Audi. The car felt like a completely different car. It was so disappointing to drive and couldn't wait to get my car back. Imo, if you can afford the luxury one, get it because you won't be disappointed with the money you spent.

    "Just not quite the fun you expect to have" - I reckon 0.1% of owners of these types are cars subject their 2+ ton tankers / boats to trackdays. Expensive fun when a tank is drained in a few laps, alongside your new 19/20 inch tyres. VXR8 is the Chevy SS in some other markets BTW.

    As Jeremy Clarkson once said: He who shall be last, shall be sideways and smiling. I don't care about lap times honestly, it's all about having fun and the VXR8 is better in that regard. A big american V8 in an autralian Wagon and a six-speed manual for a lot cheaper than that boring (in comparaison to the VXR8, because the RS6 is far from a dull car) RS6, I'm taking the Vauxhall any day. Now bring it to Canada and badge it as a Buick or a Chevy.

    Bloody hell, its not a Vauxhall. Its a Holden VE Commodore, or in this case, a Clubsport Tourer. The VE is an old car now, and the VF took its place mid last year. Anyone know when you guys in the UK will get that?
