    My 2013 S4 has cost me over $10k in the last 8 months. I hit 125k miles with zero problems. Then, BOOM. Harmonic balancer, coil packs, both supercharger intercoolers, water pump, thermostat, valve cover gaskets, fuel pump, brake booster, all took a shit. It's got a APR Stage 2 tune, supercharger pulley & crank pulley upgrade, ultracharger throttle body, carbon fiber intake, and Magnaflow exhaust & yes, I drive it pretty hard as a daily driver. Still, it can add up very quickly. Now I'm getting the 1-2 second death rattle from the timing chain at cold start-up. Not looking forward to that at all! This is a car I'll never sell though. I love it. I complain, but I love it.

    Good review covering most of the common faults. Gearbox is the real weak spot on these motors and any other Audi's using the STronic. My mechatronics went at 84K and needed to be replaced along with the clutch packs. 2.5K bill for that repair. Other than that, it's been exceptionally reliable and it's happily pushing 480bhp with a stage 2 pulley and gearbox remap. Great car for long journeys with plenty of room in the back being the Avant.

    TPB - thank you for this video, definitely helping with my B8/B8.5 S4 search. I did test drive an S4 and I noticed it had this stop and go jerking issue, from stop it feels like the trans isn't catching and the car will lurch/jerk forward. It's as-if a new driver is learning manual for the first time and is unfamiiliar with the clutch. The seller advised that it's pretty normal for these vehicles and there's a way they drive to get around this. I've done as much research as I can online but I'm getting mixed responses from it being a mechatronics unit issue or the computer just adapting to the drivers driving habits, etc. Any tips, etc is appreciated!

  • @TheParrottBros

    @TheParrottBros

    4 жыл бұрын

    Your welcome, that’s what it aimed at helping those who own or want to own one. I would recommend driving another one so you get a feel for 2. That way if they are both the same then that’s normal or if one is significantly better then you know one is no good. There is almost a delay when pulling away from a stop. Then when coming to a stop it can also be similar. Same as when you put it into reverse it can take a second to catch up. It’s an old designed box so not like modern tech. It’s a lot better in manual or sport. Also there is gearbox updates and you can also get them mapped which does help a little

    Another major issue seems to be the failure of the catalytic converters basically melting due to excessive heat as they are located so close to the engine which then can possibly cause catastrophic engine failure if particles enter the engine... I'm not sure if this is mainly in the US or other warmer countries than the UK. I've been looking into replacing them with test pipes/sports cats on the downpipes but labor on that job alone seems to be about £500-800 and the parts are not cheap also.

    Ralfs Zemzars your very welcome, I seen 8.5’s with box issues too but not as frequently. It is a common issue but not everyone suffers from it, providing maintenance has been done on box when needed it should be perfectly fine, if you are worried either get a warranty or buy one that has proof of gearbox having mechatronix already done.

You would hope the newer models suffer less but unless you take it apart you won’t know. When I get my supercharger serviced I will do a video on the results of what I have and if a carbon clean is required.
