Athlean-X Fake Weights REDEEMED?
In today's video I'm responding to the recent Jeff Cavaliere deadlift video ("How to Get Big and Strong - JUST DO THIS!") where he shows himself performing a real lift of 425 pounds for a one rep max.
It seems reasonable to assume that this upload is a subtle response to the whole Athlean X "fake weights" controversy that popped up last month.
Just browse the comments section of this latest Athlean X deadlift video and you'll find an endless stream of his supporters applauding him for "silencing the haters" and demonstrating once and for all how strong he really is.
Unfortunately, all it takes is a simple breakdown to see that this video actually does the opposite. All it really does is further cement that fact that all the Jeff Cavaliere fake weights videos were correct and that he lied to his audience about how much he could lift.
In the original Athlean X deadlift video with the fake plates ("How Heavy Should You Lift to Get Big - HOW MUCH WEIGHT!"), he lifts 495 pounds for 2 touch and go reps without a belt and without even putting forth a maximum effort. This would place his one rep max well above 530 pounds or so.
In the latest video, Jeff Cavaliere deadlifts 425 pounds for a single all out rep. In other words, he lifts roughly 100 pounds less than the original fake plates video when all factors are equated.
Not only that, but his deadlift form is atrocious. His lower back is completely rounded over and he performs the lift in the exact opposite way that he typically advises. Just look up any Athlean X deadlift form video and it's clear that he went against his own advice simply to try and impress his audience.
At the end of the day, this latest Jeff Cavaliere deadlift video only makes the whole situation look worse, not to mention that it's flat out dangerous to promote this type of deadlift form to his very large audience.

Funny how u say u don’t care bout what Jeff can lift but you made a whole vid to call him out on it and to promote yourself in the end. If he used fake weights ok then he should be honest. He lifted that much weight to prove a point of why deadlift can wreck your body if you're not careful. He knew from the very beginning what that kind of weight was going to do to him. He did this in retaliation to all of the hate comments about how he uses "fake weights." I honestly don't blame him because there's no one on KZread doing what Jeff does. He deadlifted a weight too heavy for him on purpose, and some people just simply aren't intelligent enough to realize that it was done to make a point. I don't blame Jeff, I'd be pissed too. You can easily infer why he did what he did if you actually watch Jeff's videos on a continuous basis. Sean basically describing Jeff as trying to be a "hardass with bad form" made me sick to my stomach. This video right here is why I probably will never watch his videos ever again. (Sean's) I've pretty well lost all respect for the guy besides his weightlifting content (which is decent, but not as good as Jeff's imho) He should have done more research and put more work into this video basically not bashing Jeff before he just made himself look stupid. I probably sound like a Jeff fanboy, but idc really. I'm honestly just telling it like it is without any bias. I'm glad Jeff made these people look stupid. I hope he keeps doing it, too. Plus, hating on someone with more success from hard work than yourself is pure envy, hate, jealousy, and ignorance. @Alfredo Duro Ok, now watch the video, with audio on. In that video, he claims that at 4 plates, he "starts to have some issues", "back isnt staying exactly in the position (he) wants". Says he just has command of the weight and it'll just be a passing grade. At "near 500lbs", he's "*not* mastering it the way he should" and he doesnt feel comfortable doing the weights. The weights "arent benefiting (him) necessarily." He makes compensation within his kinetic chain. And he might get injured doing it. The point of the video was actually to tell people, at heavier weights, you'll experience form-breakdown and you should lower the weight. The point of the video wasnt to show how strong he is. Did he use fake weights to try to illustrate the point that his form was breaking down? Not well, clearly, cause people seem to think the opposite. Was he justified to use fake weights? For the purposes, yeah. He's trying to tell people at near max, your form might breakdown to the point you get injured. Do you really need him to lift the actual weight, just to prove himself right, ie, get injured on camera doing weights he himself claims he has no control over?

I am a follower of Jeff Cavaliere and Sean Nalewanyj, and I appreciate how both contribute much-needed science, seriousness, and accuracy to the world of weight-training and physical fitness (including lifestyle, nutrition, and more). I find it unfortunate that Cavaliere used fake weights and wish he had not done that, and after he did it I wish he had posted an explanatory video admitting he made the mistake so we could all move on. But this mistake does not lessen the value of Jeff's overall approach to weight-training, his profound understanding of anatomy and the kinetic chain, his logical and proven attitude about exercise techniques, and his sound advice about nutrition. What it shows is that Jeff -- for whatever reason -- wanted in that video for his deadlift to appear heavier, which showed a moment of bad judgement! But I'll tell you, I've been following Jeff's concepts for 3 years and have seen undeniable progress in my exercise results. I've also seen Jeff's techniques prove themselves in pain management. I say all this just based on Jeff's free content -- without purchasing a single Athlean-X product or training program. In other words, Jeff's knowledge and skills and what he has to offer is extremely valuable, but he made a mistake in one of his videos that I hope he does not repeat! I think Sean is correct to point out Jeff's bad decisions. But let's judge that bad decision for what it is, and not make more out of it than it deserves.

The guy making this video is missing the whole point! I'm so tired of everybody trying to get people to click on their video by talking about Jeff. Just do your own good content. Yes Jeff has used fake weights! It's not to prove a point or try and show how much he can lift. He uploads videos every single day showing people tips and tricks. They are probably often not exercises he was going to do in his regular training program that day. So he uses a fake weight similar to what he can do...big deal. He's a very big proponent of not over training so this goes right along with what that.

@@brandonnegley7432 I wonder how it's possible to be so delusional and blind. Seriously. Over 100 pounds lighter than the original video for a single rep max is way too much to be considered over-training prevention. Why the fuck would he upload a lift on a day that he's tired doing such "low" weight in comparison after all of this controversy? He simply cannot do that much weight. It's especially sad because the people defending him very clearly must just not know what these lifts done properly with high weight look like. Anyone who knows what they're doing and has built a respectable physique for themselves can see what he did in that video was horrendous form with heavy weight and was incredibly dangerous.

I finally had to make a choice as to who's advice to take above all else. I chose Sean because he came off as the most genuine. Discerning friends and authorities on the basis of honesty has served me so well over the years. Once again Sean has tought me things I didn't know. I have had great results and I have never even been close to getting injured (as far as I can tell). I appreciate Sean's incredible teaching skill. Thank you so much!

@@travistarp7466 Hard gainer here. I think part of this equation is learning how to use nutrition to support more mitochondria. While this ultimately can be a very complex jog down biochemistry lane, for most people this means more magnesium, retinol, copper, and eliminating processed foods, especially inorganic iron filing fortified "foods." On a practical basis, this means eating an average of 1-2 ounces of pasteured liver a day for the bio-copper (and lots of other nutrition -- best overall "supplement" there is, IMHO), magnesium malate supplements (250 ct. Nature's Life is a good value), epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) baths and/or magnesium chloride foot soaks for magnesium, and Straus or raw whole cream (ingested away from high glycemic meals), sardines, and/or Rosita's Cod Liver Oil for retinol. Other than that, eat lots of real nutrient dense food and avoid pesticides and other toxins. If you want to eat bread, Ezekiel sprouted bread is a good bet. What I did learn from him, wasnt about the weights, numbers, etc, but form, and discipline, about consistency. I am subbed to you as well, and get tremendous value from both of you. YOu got me with red pill stuff (and here with the Hodge twins LOL). Cmon, I gotta love you both. So, as long as the overall impact a person has is POSITIVE, I dont care about a minor thing here and there. Plus, the guy has a bad injury, so dead lifting might not be something that he can do as well, but most casual viewers wont know of that injury. Im literally a week into this, but Ive watched almost all of his, and your vids, with notebook and pen in hand, constantly changing my routine, based on what my body tells me (I think of it like a car, with all the warning lights, check engine lights, and I stop when they tell me something).
