I still find myself always coming back to the Atari classic games over today's massive AAA games,it's incredible how a game like asteroids at 55kb is still so much more enjoyable and addictive over any games with 50gb of content and over,surely there's a lesson there as I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking this.

this is one of my all time favorite old school arcade games-centipede. i have been a centipede arcade fan for a long time. here’s a tip for everybody that plays this game at your local video arcade. don’t wait until the last centipede head gets all the way to the bottom of the wave you’re on. just shoot it. it’s impotant to get the timing right when you do that.

I remember watching these 2 guys in the 80s clear all of the mushrooms from the screen and just let the centipede go up and down on the bottom right corner of the screen, while they shot the spider and eventually got to 999,999 points or something like that. I literally remember the guy's name as Ryan Lynn Hunter and used to see his initials RLH at many different centipede games for the highest score. I wish I could learn how they trapped the centipede in the corner...

Agreed it’s no fun - but this does work on my mame setup: To set up the safety zone, it is only necessary that there be one mushroom near each edge of row 2. If you keep your shooter in rows 1 and 2, between the two mushrooms, the Centipede can never hit you. This is because the Centipede chain (or heads) will always hit the bottom row outside of the two "outpost" mushrooms, and then travel back up to row 6 without coming between them.

SirenoftheVoid - The mid-80s industry crashes hurt that a bit. When Nintendo brought things back from the dead a stigma came with it that video games were a kid's toy... and that has somewhat stuck ever since.
